Countdown to TNA: Against All Odds
By SLAM! Wrestling Staff

TNA really needs to re-name some of their PPVs, starting with Against All Odds.

The name here still implies that there was someone working against the company getting to the big time (or the pay winduh, if you weeeeel) and having success on PPV. Well, it's now what, six years into the company's run? I'd say the odds are more heavily stacked in their favour than against them.

As of Wednesday, TNA had announced six matches, each of which has been well built and has, at varying levels, some anticipation. Let's see what is going to go down tonight.

TNA HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH (FATAL FOUR-WAY)

Sting vs. Kurt Angle vs. Brother Ray vs. Brother Devon

SLAM! Predictions

Jon Waldman

This is not going to be pretty. I like Team 3D as a duo, but standing on their own didn't work the first time in WWE and I don't think it's going to work here. The tension between Angle and Sting could come to a climax here with Angle winning the belt and claiming he did it to keep the title in the Mafia, setting up a rematch at the next PPV.

Kenai Andrews

I haven't watched TNA in a while, but I see from the SLAM! Wrestling TNA recaps that Angle and Sting aren't seeing eye-to-eye these days. If Angle or 3D have a ton of heat behind them, I just haven't seen it, so I must go with Sting to retain.

Greg Oliver

This is such a flawed idea that it just might work. Will it lead to Team 3D breaking up? Or working together to topple Sting? Or will Angle and Sting be able to work together, only for one to betray the other? Lots of questions. I'm going to pick Angle to walk out the champion.

TNA WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH

Jay Lethal/Consequences Creed vs. Beer Money Inc.

SLAM! Predictions

Jon Waldman

I'm already bored with Creed, and Lethal's gone from mildly annoying to X-Pac annoying. BMI has really become a great tag team and there's no reason for them to lose the belts here.

Kenai Andrews

I like Consequences Creed's wrestling but he comes in a little banged up and Beer Money are just money right now. Beer Money retains the titles but Lethal and Creed win by DQ or something similar.

Greg Oliver

Lethal and Creed are a decent team, but hardly seem of drinking age yet, so gimme some Beer Money, honey!

TNA KNOCKOUTS TITLE MATCH

Awesome Kong vs. ODB

SLAM! Predictions

Jon Waldman

You'd think that TNA would pay attention to all the "ODB" chants in the Impact Zone. She may just be the most over competitor in all of TNA. I'll put her down for the win tonight.

Kenai Andrews

Bad break for Christy Hemme. She has been the best face for a while now and I think her wrestling has improved even before when I saw her at No Surrender last September. She was about to run with the ball as champion until her untimely injury. ODB is a fine challenger and this should be a good old-fashioned tussle, but Kong retains, maybe loses by DQ as Christy remains the anointed one to knock Kong off her pedestal.

Greg Oliver

If Kong is truly heading off for surgery, then this is a good time to run an angle and send her off injured. Maybe they do a spot outside the ring that goes "awry" and ODB is awarded the title as Kong is unable to continue. There's a ton of stories to be told with OBD while Kong is gone.

  TNA LEGENDS CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

Booker T vs. Shane Sewell

SLAM! Predictions

Jon Waldman

Referees should never wrestle. Booker obliterates Sewell.

Kenai Andrews

I am probably missing something here. The Booker man against a referee. Hmm. Maybe Danny Davis will be in Shane's corner; it might be the only way he pulls this one off. Booker wins.

Greg Oliver

If they spent any time truly talking about Sewell's background, especially in Puerto Rico, then maybe he would be considered a "legend" -- but until then, Booker T keeps his silly belt.

GRUDGE MATCH

Abyss vs. Matt Morgan

SLAM! Predictions

Jon Waldman

This one needs to be bloody for it to be entertaining. Morgan needs the duke to move up the ranks, so he'd better win.

Kenai Andrews

They were once friends. Now they are foes. Abyss will fight valiantly. Nonetheless, down he goes. The Blueprint wins.

Greg Oliver

This has been building so long that I'm not sure anybody cares. Morgan has to win, so he can move up the ladder into a championship picture, instead of stuck with yesterday's news.

GRUDGE MATCH

Petey Williams vs. Scott Steiner

SLAM! Predictions

Jon Waldman

Memo to Petey -- stop dressing like Scott; seriously dude, it's weak. Steiner wins and gets attacked by Suicide after the match.

Kenai Andrews

Petey Williams certainly has a bone to pick here. I think Maple Leaf Muscle bucks the odds and gets a little payback here and wins.

Greg Oliver

The right thing to do is to have Williams win clean, with perhaps a bit of luck. But this is TNA. I think Steiner will destroy him.
