Locally-shot film, Blindeye, ready for debut
By DON ROBINET - Courier Press

An action film shot partially in Wallaceburg last year will have its debut on Friday, Oct. 4 at Sarnia's Imperial thriller.

Blindeye features wrestler/actor 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper, Canadian-born actor Nick Mancuso, as well as Levi Oliver, who is from Petrolia.

The film shot many of its action sequences in Wallaceburg's industrial park and along the river.

Tickets for the debut are $18 and it will be a fundraiser for the United Way. Tickets may be ordered by telephone. The theatre holds 600 people. Tickets are also available for the after-movie social, which Piper plans to attend and are an extra $10.

A clip from the movie and other information about the film can be viewed at www.blindeyemovie.com.

While Blindeye will be making its debut on the big screen, the executive producers say it is a straight to DVD feature. Leo Stathakis says, "It is being sold at various film festivals around the world." He adds, "Cable is also a big market. There are hundreds of cable companies around the world."

Gerry Lee, the film's other executive producer, praised the community of Wallaceburg for the cooperation they received in doing filming here. "We got a lot of bang for our buck," he says.

Both men praised Councillor Chip Gordon, who helped arrange the Wallaceburg shoot.

Gordon says, "For the community, I could never say 'no' to anything," adding, "They (the film's crew) spend money in the community."

Gordon adds he hopes the Blindeye experience will encourage more work in town by the producers, as well as other movie production companies. He also mentioned the success Pontiac had shooting a commercial in Wallaceburg a couple of years ago.

"I can see the potential of getting recognized," says Gordon. "You never know what the future is going to bring."

Gordon says he is arranging for a bus from Wallaceburg for people to attend the Sarnia debut. While details have yet to be worked out, he is asking anyone who is interesting in taking the bus trip to call him at 519-627-4733.
