Winnipeg to honour Jericho

Chris Jericho -- arguably Winnipeg's most well-known celebrity -- will be officially honored by the Province of Manitoba and City of Winnipeg on Monday July 5, the day that WWE Raw returns to the Winnipeg Arena. Jericho will be honored by Premier Gary Doer on the south lawn at the Manitoba Legislature at 10.30 a.m. Jericho will be presented with the Order of the Buffalo. At 1 p.m. he will be presented with a key to the city by freshly minted Mayor Sam Katz in the courtyard of City Hall.

The public is invited to attend both events. Kudos to the premier and mayor for honouring a great Manitoban.

The recognition is well deserved in Jericho's case, as he has long been a die hard supporter of Winnipeg and Manitoba, recently speaking out against the WWE's decision to announce him from New York City (his actual birthplace).

Jericho, whose father is former NHL hockey star (and great guy) Ted Irvine, was raised in Winnipeg (St. James) and attended Westwood Collegiate before doing the Communications program at Red River College.

Jericho then moved to Calgary to train at the Hart Brothers camp before starting his wrestling career.

Jericho's band Fozzy will be appearing at Cowboys Bar after the Raw show.

    K-5 News

Jeff Hardy recently debuted with TNA and had a great encounter with AJ Styles. Hardy showing up in the company is a great boost ... also in TNA news, Dennis Rodman made an appearance in what was designed to get some mainstream media pub ... Tony Condello the star of Wrestling with the North, appeared on Global TV in the documentary which chronicles Tony's infamous Northern Hell Tours ... Speaking of knowing how to get publicity, Hulk Hogan continues to appear in photos with his up and coming singer/daughter Brooke. You may have seen Brooke singing at the Tampa Bay Lightning home games during the Stanley cup finals. Hogan appeared in a picture with Brooke and her new friend, former Backstreet Boy (yes you read that right) Aaron Carter. Brooke is nice looking, but has it occurred to anyone that Carter may just be a huge mark and be dating the daughter to hang out with the Hulkster? ... I spoke with Shane Douglas, former ECW World Champion, WWF Intercontinental Champion, WCW U.S. Champion and WCW World Tag Champion two nights ago. Shane, who works for TNA as an agent, is very happy in his role. Shane is one of the smartest guys I know and a pleasure to be around. He and I used to travel together in TNA and were the co-creators of the Franchise Coffee Club which involved he and I escaping from the dingy building in Nashville and heading off to a Starbucks on the Vanderbilt University campus. We started by just getting Scott D'amore coffee, and then when Dutch Mantel started booking we included him (gotta protect your storylines). Soon we were so popular (no coffee at the building) that we were charging a membership fee (twenty bucks) to join, which only got you access, you still had to pay for your coffee.
