Canadian Hall of Fame: Maurice 'Mad Dog' Vachon

REAL NAME: Maurice 'Mad Dog' Vachon
BORN: 1929, Montreal, Quebec
The Mad Dog is still a folk-hero in Quebec today, even if it's not his home anymore. From a family of 13
children came the Mad Dog,
Paul 'The Butcher', and Vivien Vachon (and niece
Luna Vachon). The Mad Dog and The Butcher bit heads and scratched eyeballs around the world.
Maurice was a legimate amateur wrestler, and represented Canada in 1948 Olympics in London (he finished 7th at the middleweight level) and in the Empire Games. Professionally, he was always a loose cannon, sometimes the hated
heel, sometimes the underdog hero. His biggest success came in the AWA where he battled Verne Gagne over the World Title, and also held the tag titles on a few occasions. For a time, he lived in Winnipeg, an important stop on the AWA circuit.
In October 1987, he lost a leg after being hit by a car near his home in Iowa while out for some exercise.
In May 1996, Vachon, and other oldtimers were honored by the WWF at its In Your House pay per view. Though in-ring action may be out of the question these days, the Mad Dog did make his contribution. Diesel knocked over Vachon, and took his artificial leg. Diesel then whacked Shawn Michaels with it and then Michaels used it on Diesel while Vachon continued to get his tux all mussed up by lying flat on the floor, apparently oblivious to it all.
