Lita

REAL NAME:Amy Dumas
5' 7", 135 pounds
BORN: April 14. 1975 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida
NICKNAMES: Lita, Angelica, Miss Congeniality

There was a time, only a few years ago, when Amy "Lita" Dumas, was considered one of the most talented female wrestlers in the history of the wrestling industry. Training in Mexico and cutting her teeth in ECW, Lita certainly had no shortage of preparation for life under the bright lights of WWE. However, in recent years, injuries have limited her in-ring time and in recent months, controversy surrounding her real life have left most people talking about her relationships with Adam Copeland (Edge) and Matt Hardy instead of her wrestling ability.

Born Amy Dumas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the future Lita was concerned less with a future in pro wrestling than she was in a musical career. She played bass guitar in a band and had a five-year stint as a roadie in a band.

It was exposure to the high-flying luchadore style of such stars as Rey Mysterio, Jr. that sparked Lita's interest in wrestling. She traveled to Mexico to learn under such stars as Ricky Santana, Dave Sierra, Kevin Quinn, and Miguel Perez before making her debut in Mexco, and later working for EMLL (Empresa Mexicana de Lucha Libre) and several other promotions in Mexico.

Her stay in Mexico was brief and, as Angelica, she made her way through the U.S. independent circuit. In addition to wrestling, she also managed, among others, Christopher Daniels. She also wrestled for the NWA Mid-Atlantic areas, which is where she met Matt and Jeff Hardy.

By 1999, Amy Dumas had caught the attention of Paul Heyman who brought her to ECW as Miss Congeniality. Amy not only managed Danny Doring and Roadkill but teamed with them in mixed-tag matches as well.

Rob Van Dam introduced Amy to the legendary Dory Funk, Jr. who invited Amy to take part in his "Funkin' Conservatory". Amy hung in with 23 other students, all male, graduating in August 1999. With Amy back in ECW, Funk began compiling a video of Amy's work in his training camp and sent it to the WWE.

WWE signed Amy to a developmental deal on November 1, 1999, sending her to Memphis Championship Wrestling for further training.

Lita's WWE debut would come early the next year, as the manager for Essa Rios. On February 8, 2000, WWE Light Heavyweight Champion Gillberg issued an open challenge, which Rios (with Lita escorting him to the ring) accepted. Lita's WWE debut as a manager was a success, with Rios becoming the new Light Heavyweight Champion. After Rios won the title with a moonsault, Lita executed one of her own on the fallen Gillberg.

The partnership between Rios and Lita lasted only until May. Upset when Lita found Rios with one of the Godfather's women, Lita cost Rios several matches. Upset at the double-cross, Rios turned on Lita until the Hardy Boys rushed the ring and saved her.

Now in the Hardys' corner, Lita would aid them in their feud with Test, Albert and Trish Stratus, even teaming with Matt and Jeff, as well as taking on Trish in singles matches. But Trish wasn't the only woman that Lita faced, as she defeated Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley for the WWE Women's Championship on August 21, 2000.

While Matt and Lita were becoming an item outside the ring, Dean Malenko developed an unnatural fondness for Lita inside the ring. Lita agreed to meet Malenko at a motel, but it was a setup for a beatdown by the Hardys. Meanwhile, Lita would team with Matt and Jeff against Malenko and the Radicals, but lost at Armageddon when Malenko made Lita submit.

Not willing to simply have the Hardys fight her battles, Lita climbed into the ring to defeat Malenko on Raw in February 2001. It was after that match that Matt kissed Lita, bringing their real-life romance into the storylines.

Lita would spend most of 2001 in the Women's Division, battling the likes of Stratus, Stacey Keibler and Jazz. Later that year, Lita would have the unenviable task of refereeing a Matt Hardy/Jeff Hardy match at Vengeance 2001.

The storyline of Lita getting caught in the middle of a possible Hardy vs. Hardy feud had to be put on hold. In April 2002, Lita suffered an injury while filming a guest spot on the TV show, Dark Angel. A CAT Scan revealed that she had suffered three broken vertebraes in her neck and on April 30th, underwent neck surgery.

After taking several months off to recuperate, Lita returned to WWE TV. However, she wasn't able to return to in-ring action and instead became the co-host of Sunday Night Heat. The announcing gig would last only about six months before she was fired by Eric Bischoff in April 2003 as she was appearing on Raw to announce her imminent return.

Despite Bischoff's decision, Lita did, in fact return to in-ring action in September 2003. She teamed with Trish Stratus and the team took on Molly Holly and Gail Kim at Unforgiven. Lita would soon be named the number one contender to the Women's title, but lost in her title match against Holly at the Survivor Series.

The next day, Lita's boyfriend Matt Hardy returned and teamed with her against Bischoff and Holly. However, the match became a nightmare when Hardy dumped her and Bischoff fired her. However, she found an unlikely benefactor as Christian went to Bischoff and got Lita her job back. It was soon learned, though, that Christian was only helping Lita as part of a bet between he and Chris Jericho over who could score with a Diva first. Lita and Trish challenged Jericho and Christian to a "Battle of the Sexes" match (won by Jericho and Christian) at Armageddon.

After reuniting with Matt in the ring, the couple found themselves under attack from Kane. As Kane attempted to injure Matt, Lita agreed to sleep with him and later found herself pregnant with his child. Matt vowed revenge but lost a "Til Death Do Us Part" match at SummerSlam, with Kane earning the right to marry Lita, a ceremony that took place on Raw on August 23, 2004.

Lita's feelings for Kane changed after she was injured by Gene Snitsky and lost her unborn child. Lita seemed united with Kane in their quest for revenge against Snitsky. Meanwhile Lita's feud with Trish Stratus flared up again, with Lita defeating Trish to win the Women's title on December 6th on Raw.

Lita lost the WWE Women's title at New Year's Revolution and, to make matter worse, tore her ACL, putting her out of action for several months. By the time she returned to the WWE, to aid Christy Hemme in her Wrestlemania XXI match against Stratus, Lita's personal life had taken a drastic turn.

Her relationship with Matt Hardy was over, and she was now seeing Adam "Edge" Copeland. Internet reports on the situation behind the scenes would turn the crowds against Lita.

Lita and Kane would continue to team against Trish and her new ally Viscera, but on May 16, 2004, Lita would turn on her "husband" during the finals of the Gold Rush tournament and align herself with his opponent: Edge. For several weeks, it seemed as if the WWE was telling the Edge/Matt/Lita storyline with Kane substituting for Matt. Edge and Lita even went so far as to get married in Las Vegas during a Raw episode.

However, the in-ring storylines would become even more realistic when Matt Hardy began making appearances on Raw, jumping Edge from behind and threatening to make Edge and Lita's life "a living hell." The feud between Kane and Edge continued, with Kane seemingly kidnapping an injured Lita after a stretcher match against Edge. However, Lita was well enough to appear in Edge's corner at SummerSlam and the next night on Raw to gloat over Edge's victory over Matt.

Lita would be at Edge's side during his battles against her former boyfriend, Hardy. She even got to give Matt the Twist of Fate following one clash. At WWE Homecoming, Lita accompanied Edge during his victory over Hardy in a "Money In the Bank, Loser Leaves Raw Ladder Match", which saw Lita's former beau leave Raw.

Lita would also be by Edge's side as he battled Ric Flair" and then John Cena at New Year's Revolution, during which Edge became WWE Champion. Lita got to enjoy the spoils of Edge's victory during his "Live Sex Celebration", the next night on Raw. Unfortunately, the real news came when Lita accidentally showed more than she wanted to.

Edge's title reign was short-lived, losing the title back to Cena at the Royal Rumble. In a rematch the next night on Raw, Lita nailed Edge with the WWE title, ensuring that he would get another rematch against Cena.

WIth Edge's World title aspirations on hold for the moment, Lita will once again be in Edge's corner, when the Rated-R Superstar battles Mick Foley at Wrestlemania XXII.
