CHRIS & NANCY: A new introduction
Irvin Muchnick's book, CHRIS & NANCY, came out in 2009, and is being re-released on February 15, 2013, as an eBook with a new introduction. Today, Muchnick gives SLAM! Wrestling readers a chance to read his new "Introduction to the Digital Edition," which brings up some new issues.

Muchnick's Benoit book a flawed but valuable resource
By DAVID BIXENSPAN - For SLAM! Wrestling
I wasn't sure what to expect from Chris & Nancy, Irvin Muchnick's new book about the Benoit murder-suicide and everything surrounding it. I have been a fan of Muchnick's wrestling writing (collected in Wrestling Babylon) for years, but I was unsure of the direction he was taking based on his blog posts related to his research for the book. He seemed to be making conspiracies out of nothing at points, sometimes based on misstatements and seemingly pulling them out of thin air at other points.

Mat Matters: Benoit, two years later
By JON WALDMAN -- SLAM! Wrestling
Two years ago today, our world stood still. Unlike any other moment in the history of professional wrestling, everyone, from hardcore WWE fans to the most casual viewer would tune into radio shows, click onto websites or, eventually, turn on television reports that spanned news channels, sports stations and almost everything in between. It was this day that is listed as the day Chris Benoit killed himself, after murdering his wife Nancy and son Daniel.

No WWE in Benoit wrongful-death suit -- only Dr. Astin and 'Distributors X, Y, Z'
By IRVIN MUCHNICK - For SLAM! Wrestling
On Wednesday the family of Chris Benoit's wife Nancy brought down the civil litigation hammer, filing a wrongful-death lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Newnan, Georgia, over the June 2007 murders by Chris of Nancy and their son Daniel (which were followed by Chris's suicide).

Second anniversary of Benoit tragedy slams shut another door on reform

The unbearable ambiguity of Benoit
By IRVIN MUCHNICK - For SLAM! Wrestling
Wrestling fans prefer "blowoffs" of their "angles." In the case of the deaths of Chris, Nancy, and Daniel Benoit, the instinct to move on is supported by the clear evidence that Chris himself -- not Kevin Sullivan, not Vince McMahon, not the proverbial one-armed man from The Fugitive -- committed the infamous June 2007 double murder/suicide in Fayette County, Georgia.

Guest column: Strange case of the "Benoit Wikipedia hacker"
By IRVIN MUCHNICK - For SLAM! Wrestling
I recently filed a complaint with the Connecticut Freedom of Information Commission to compel the Stamford Police Department to release the video of its interrogation last summer of Matthew T. Greenberg -- a hapless University of Connecticut student whose Internet mischief has landed him the sobriquet of "the Benoit Wikipedia hacker." Pull up a chair while I explain.

One year later, Benoit tragedy still part of wrestler lives
By JASON CLEVETT - SLAM! Wrestling
One year ago, on June 24, 2007, Chris Benoit ended his life after murdering his wife Nancy and son Daniel over the course of the weekend. After a firestorm of media frenzy, all that is left is for those who were directly affected -- his family, fans and the wrestling fraternity -- to reflect on the tragedy.

Mat Matters: Leave the speculation and blame elsewhere
By JASON CLEVETT - SLAM! Wrestling
On May 27th, 34-year-old Calgary architect Joshua Lall stabbed and killed his wife Alison, 35, his two daughters Kristen, 5, and Rochelle, 3, and Amber Bowerman, 30, a tenant in their home, before committing suicide. A third daughter, one-year-old Anna, was not harmed. It instantly brought me back to last year with the story of the Benoit family tragedy

Dr. Astin: Steroid pusher -- er, painkiller pusher -- to the stars
By IRVIN MUCHNICK - For SLAM! Wrestling
The new indictment of Dr. Phil Astin, Chris Benoit's personal physician, is the latest installment of how government authorities seem to be working overtime to avoid providing the baseline public information by which the gruesome Benoit double murder/suicide might spur badly needed reforms in pro wrestling health and safety standards.

Benoit case is closed -- but far from settled
By IRVIN MUCHNICK - For SLAM! Wrestling
The final report from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, released in February, officially closed the case of the Chris Benoit double murder/suicide. But anyone who reads the 52-page case summary and the hundreds of pages of ancillary documents made public under the Georgia open records law, in the hope that they will even come close to filling in the pertinent surrounding narrative, is apt to be disappointed.
