Wrestler Jake 'The Snake' Roberts has been hospitalized after falling ill with double pneumonia.

The veteran WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) star was flying from Atlanta, Georgia to Las Vegas, Nevada on Wednesday night when he fell ill.

He was taken to hospital upon landing in Sin City and diagnosed with double pneumonia. He has been in and out of consciousness ever since, according to TMZ.com.

His friend and fellow wrestler Sinn Bodhi tells the website Roberts visited a doctor two weeks ago, diagnosed with the flu and told he needed to rest.

Roberts is currently in the Intensive Care Unit and doctors are hoping to keep him in hospital over the weekend for a series of tests.

Bodhi is hopeful his friend will make a full recovery, saying, "Right now, we're all just staying positive."

Earlier this year, Roberts, who was inducted to the WWE Hall of Fame in April, underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumour from his knee.
