Smackdown: Rollins' briefcase provides fireworks on the Fourth
By DALE PLUMMER -- SLAM! Wrestling

Why not start off with a kiss from Eva Marie! Photos by George Tahinos

Say what you will about Vince McMahon, but the man sure loves the United States. With Smackdown! falling on America's birthday this year, expect Rusev and Lana to beat down someone patriotic and then have a Real American make the save.

If you missed RAW on Monday, you missed a lot, catch up by reading Nolan Howell's report here on SLAM! Wrestling.

Mr. Money in the Bank Seth Rollins kicks off the show. He is actually oh for one in attempted cash-ins, after Dean Ambrose thwarted his efforts on Monday. Rollins tells WWEWHC John Cena he is lucky and that luck is going to run out. Dean Ambrose walks to the stage, calling Rollins delusional for thinking he can get his hands on the titles. Ambrose reminds him that he will be there every single time. Ambrose calls the briefcase a curse. Rollins says he doesn't care because there's no way Ambrose can stay vigilant all year. Ambrose makes a bee line for Rollins, beating him down in the ring. Randy Orton runs out to make the save, when Roman Reigns runs in to even the odds. Reigns cleans house, allowing Ambrose to get to his feet. Orton and Rollins escape the ring and meet Triple H on top of the ramp. Hunters tells Ambrose he will get a fight, tonight, with Randy Orton and if Reigns interferes, he is out of the Fatal Four-way at Battleground.

Match #1 - Sheamus (Champion) vs. Alberto Del Rio (Challenger) - Unites States Title Match

ADR is taking Sheamus up on an open challenge he issues earlier in the week on one of the shows I don't watch. Del Rio nearly gets a pin after a hitting a DDT when Sheamus countered an attempt at the cross arm breaker. Sheamus builds momentum after beating on Del Rio on the top turnbuckle, but ADR ducks a Brogue kick and locks in the cross arm breaker. Sheamus counters in a cloverleaf, but Del Rio is able to get to the ropes. ADR counters White Noise in the cross arm breaker, but Sheamus is able to power out and slam him into the turnbuckle. ADR catches the champ with a kick to the temple and looks for a moonsault. Sheamus rolls away and answers with a Brogue kick. Sheamus covers and gets the win.

Winner ... and still United States Champion ... via pinfall: Sheamus

Stardust asks what's in a name?

Byron Saxton gets Roman Reigns reaction to Triple H's threat that he will remove him from the title match at Battleground. Reigns says he knows Ambrose can take care of himself, so he won't have to jeopardize his spot in the title match.

If you missed the pre-shoe for Money in the Bank, Daniel Bryan told the WWE Universe that he won't be back anytime soon, as another surgery may be on the horizon. But that still didn't stop Bo Dallas from giving him some inspiration.

Match #2 - Bo Dallas vs. Diego

Bo promises to win the Intercontinental Title Battle Royal for little Daniel (Bryan)at Battleground. Bo keeps his winning streak alive after hitting the Bodog on Diego.

Winners via pinfall: Bo Dallas

After the match, Bo takes a victory lap and then offers El Torito some words of inspiration. He tells Torito he can grow taller; if he Bo-lieves. Torito just gores him in the backside, so Bo slams him to the mad.

On Monday, WWE promised the return of a multi-platform champion. It was The Miz, until Chris Jericho crashed the ring and the WWE Universe lost its collective stuff. Unfortunately, Jericho then got destroyed by the Wyatt Family.

Jericho heads to the ring in his first appearance on Smackdown! in over a year. Jericho says making his return felt good, until Bray Wyatt and family attacked. Jericho thanks the Wyatts for reminding him that the WWE is about survival and is a dangerous place. Jericho says he can dangerous, though.

Y2J has his promo cut short, though, as Bray offers his rebuttal on the Titantron. He tells Jericho to save himself. Jericho calls him out, but instead he gets The Miz, who says he could of helped him on Monday. Instead, Jericho attacked him, almost breaking the money maker (Miz's face.) Miz walks into the ring as he talks, and walks right into a Code Breaker.

Match #3 - Big E vs. Cesaro

Big E and Cesaro immediately take the fight to the floor and brawl outside the ring. The bell hasn't even rung yet. Big E fights back, and Heyman corrals his man. Multiple WWE officials then break up the fight.

No Contest

Match #4 - AJ Lee vs. Eva Marie

Eva has no business being in the ring with AJ, who makes her tap to the Black Widow.

Winner via submission: AJ Lee

After the bell, Paige walks to the ring, claps for AJ and leaves.

It's not Bruce Springsteen but actually Damien Sandow. Really!

Damien Sandow, as Bruce Springsteen, celebrates the Fourth, only to get destroyed by Rusev. After the beating, Lana tries to quiet the crowd with her propaganda. Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter walk out to educate Lana on the history of the United States. When they get in the ring, Lana and Rusev back down and leave the ring.

Match #5 Randy Orton vs. Dean Ambrose

In a move that should shock no one, Seth Rollins joins Cole and JBL at the announce table. Orton focuses on the injured shoulder of Ambrose driving it into the steel ring post. Orton then beats on the shoulder, sending Ambrose to the floor. Orton then drops Ambrose on the security barrier, before rolling him back into the ring. Ambrose reverses a whip, sending Orton into the ring post. Ambrose ducks a clothesline, taking Orton down with a forearm and then a flying back elbow. A clothesline sends Orton over the ropes to the floor and Ambrose follows with a suicide dive. Ambrose then whips Orton into the barrier before sending him back into the ring. Ambrose turns his attention to Rollins, attacking him at the announce table and then sliding into the ring and nearly pinning Orton with a roll up. Orton counters a DDT into a power slam and sets up the elevated DDT. Ambrose counters, sends Orton to the floor. Ambrose dives through the ropes, only to have Rollins deck him with the briefcase. The ref calls for the bell.

Winner via DQ: Dean Ambrose

That Money in the Bank briefcase comes in handy, as Randy Orton instructs Seth Rollins what to do to Dean Ambrose.

Orton rolls Ambrose into the ring, as Rollins goes up top. Roman Reigns runs in, pushing Rollins off the top rope. Reigns catches Orton with a Superman Punch, but Rollins is able to save him from a spear. Rollins and Orton head back up the ramp and Reigns sneers at them from the ring.
