NXT: Kidd seizes opportunity for Takeover title shot

NXT Takeover is two weeks away and a controversy will be settled. Last week on NXT, a contenders battle royal for a shot at NXT Champion Adrian Neville at Takeover ended with three men laying claim to victory. Tonight on WWE NXT, Tyler Breeze, Sami Zayn, and Tyson Kidd all aim to get a shot at the belt. Plus, a semifinal bout in the NXT Women's Championship Tournament! All that and more on this week's edition of NXT!

Recap of the NXT Championship Contenders Battle Royal from last week.

We are on tape from Orlando, Fla. Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton, and William Regal have the call for this week.

Match One: The Ascension vs. Buddy Murphy & Elias Sampson

Viktor starts out with Buddy Murphy. Viktor corners Murphy and unloads strikes. Konnor in for the double back elbow. Konnor stomping Murphy down. Kicks and stomps continue to land for Konnor. Viktor returns and knocks Elias Sampson down. Fall of Man connects on Murphy.

Winners by pinfall: The Ascension

Post-match, NXT Tag Team Champions The Ascension have something to say. Konnor believes the team has taken out every team in NXT. Viktor asks for something new to destroy.

El Local and Kalisto make their way out. Local issues a challenge to the team and the two teams seem destined for a showdown in the future.

Veronica Lane with Sami Zayn backstage. Lane asks how Zayn likes his chances tonight in the main event. Zayn says he obsesses over these type of things and this is his chance to get another shot at the NXT Championship. While Tyler Breeze and Tyson Kidd are tough challengers, Zayn plans to take that step tonight.

NXT Women's Tournament Match Two: Alexa Bliss vs. Charlotte (w/Sasha Banks)

Alexa Bliss immediately locks in the sleeper as she gets the back of Charlotte. Charlotte works her into the corner, but Bliss with a back elbow and a push kick from the top. Bliss flips over Charlotte and looks for the tilt-a-whirl rollup, but Charlotte has it scouted and kicks out of the nearfall.

Charlotte with a knee to the midsection that puts Bliss down for a nearfall. Charlotte choking Bliss on the second rope and locks in an abdominal stretch. Bliss turns out and gets the schoolboy rollup for a nearfall. Charlotte counters and gets Bliss in the tree of woe for some strikes that earn her another nearfall.

Charlotte reapplies the abdominal stretch. Bliss with a rollup to get out of it, but Charlotte kicks out. Bliss with forearms and striking her way out. Charlotte picks her up, only to be rolled up again for a nearfall. Crossbody from Bliss is caught by Charlotte and turned into a backbreaker for another nearfall.

Backbreaker submission across the leg from Charlotte. Bliss struggles in the hold and eventually forearms her way out. Charlotte comes back with strikes and chokes Bliss across the second rope. Bliss goes for a crossbody, but gets another backbreaker. Bow Down to the Queen cutter converts for Charlotte.

Winner by pinfall: Charlotte

Tyler Breeze backstage from his phone. After running through some of his nicknames, Breeze runs through championship attributes. Breeze says you have to be determined and willing to do anything, as well as being gorgeous. Breeze says Tyson Kidd and Sami Zayn are Canadian and therefore cannot be good looking. Breeze is willing to do whatever it takes tonight and he believes his opponents are not.

Prior to the match, Aiden English greets us with a song.

Match Three: Mojo Rawley vs. Aiden English

Mojo Rawley rams Aiden English into the corner. English fighting back with kicks and clubbing blows. Rawley with a crossbody for an early nearfall. Rawley cornering English, forcing him to get between the ropes. English comes back with a swinging neckbreaker and grounding shots to earn a pair of nearfalls.

English works Rawley into the corner with strikes. Rawley has his head bounced off the turnbuckle. English sent into the corner and gets a back elbow before landing a clothesline for a nearfall. DDT from English nearly steals the win.

Crossface from English applied. Rawley fights to his feet and turns the tide with a scoop slam. English runs into a kick from Rawley and Rawley with a shoulder block and clothesline combo. Corner splashes land and the hip attack leads to Hyper Drive.

Winner by pinfall: Mojo Rawley

Tyson Kidd backstage. Kidd believes in hard work and second chances paying off, which is why he returned to NXT. Kidd believes he is the leader of the pack at NXT and he will become NXT Champion.

Match Four: Angelo Dawkins vs. Colin Cassady

Lockup sees Colin Cassady landing a trio of knees to the midsection. Angelo Dawkins clubbed down and worked into the corner. Cassady clubbing Dawkins from corner to corner.

CJ Parker at ringside with a "NXT: No Xtra Toxins" sign as Cassady keeps Dawkins down. The sign also reads "This Sign is Recyclable" as Cassady works Dawkins out of the corner for a back elbow nearfall. Scoop slam followed by an elbow drop for a nearfall by Cassady.

Dawkins whipped into the corner and he gets a back elbow. Punches land and are followed by a dropkick for Dawkins. Running knee and a big boot from Cassady lead to the East River Crossing.

Winner by pinfall: Colin Cassady

NXT Commissioner John "Bradshaw" Layfield backstage. Bo Dallas meets him and has something he would like to show JBL. Dallas shows letters from his "Bolievers" that ask for him to be put in tonight's triple threat main event. Dallas told the fans on his hotline that it wouldn't be fair and JBL stops him. JBL tells Dallas to give the letters to CJ Parker to recycle, but he declares that if Dallas beats his next opponent, he gets a title shot. However, if Dallas loses, he leaves NXT. Dallas will face Big E.

Contenders Triple Threat Match Five: Tyson Kidd vs. Tyler Breeze vs. Sami Zayn

Standoff to start the match between the three men. Tyson Kidd strikes first with kicks on Sami Zayn and Tyler Breeze. Double dropkick knocks both men down and Kidd with the first nearfall of the contest on Breeze.

Kidd working Zayn in the corner and Breeze from behind to send Kidd outside. Breeze now working Zayn in the corners. Zayn striking back, but put back in the corner. Flying back elbow lands for Breeze on Zayn. Kidd ducks an attack on the apron from Breeze, allowing Zayn to recover and land a heel kick on Breeze. Kidd back in and presses Zayn coming off the ropes, only to eat a dropkick. Helluva Kick attempt is met by a Beauty Shot from Breeze that gets a nearfall broken by Kidd as we break.

We return with Tyler Breeze landing a mule kick in the corner as Tyson Kidd charges. Sami Zayn out on the floor and Breeze with a nearfall on Kidd. Sunset flip attempt from Breeze is almost turned into a submission by Kidd. Breeze scoots to the apron and is dropkicked to the floor by Kidd. Kidd goes for a suicide dive, but Breeze yanks him into a hangman's neckbreaker across the second rope. Zayn hits a flip dive on top of Breeze outside and crossbody from the top gets a nearfall on Kidd inside.

Breeze inside and Zayn tries to lift him. Breeze with elbows, but Zayn grabs the Blue Thunder Bomb and nearly gets the title shot. Zayn looks for the Helluva Kick, but Breeze gets the boots up. Kick from Breeze is caught by Zayn and he sets up for an exploder suplex. Kidd gets behind Zayn and hits a German Suplex as Zayn hits the exploder variation. All three men down.

Breeze falls to the floor as Kidd and Zayn use the ropes to get up. Kidd with a right hand. Zayn with a forearm as Kidd steps in. Zayn steps in and Kidd with the takedown into the Sharpshooter. Zayn looking for the rope break, but Kidd drags him back to the middle. Breeze with a Superkick to Kidd that nearly gets the victory.

Kidd sent out by Breeze as Zayn is cornered. Breeze charges Zayn and gets caught by an exploder suplex into the corner by Zayn. Zayn with the nearfall. Breeze picked up and caught with a chop to the chest. Zayn looking for the tornado DDT out of the corner, but he falls on the top rope and gets crotched. Breeze with the nearfall. Kidd with a kick on the apron and he heads up top. Breeze there with a strike. Zayn charges in with a Helluva Kick that lays Breeze out. Zayn tries to attack Kidd, but gets sent outside. Elbow drop from the top lands for Kidd.

Winner by pinfall: Tyson Kidd

The show closes with Tyson Kidd rising to his fee as the victor while Sami Zayn is in disbelief and Tyler Breeze is out cold.
