Impact: Genesis Part Deux
By JON WALDMAN -- SLAM! Wrestling

TNA took the chance to extend its 2014 Genesis celebration for a second week, and with it comes title matches and a potential second castoff.

The festivities started with The Authori... I mean Dixieland Band (sure, why not) nervous about the new investor news from the American Wolves last week. The result of all this is that Sting now can have someone in his corner for the match later tonight.

The backstage segment carried out to the ring where Sting came out and announced Samoa Joe as his cornerman. Backstage, Dixie Carter put Rockstar Spud in a match against the Samoan Suplex Machine. Uh oh...

Match 1 - James Storm vs. Gunner - Briefcase on a Pole Match

Is Russo back in TNA?

Apparently there's a new stip added - you can't just grab the briefcase, you have to have 'full possession' of it. Oh, and both feet have to be in bounds. Okay, I'm kidding about the second part...

Honestly, this match went way too quickly for me to even fairly assess. The bottom line - Storm gets the briefcase but can't keep possession and Gunner wins. If there was a time to turn Storm heel, now is it.

Winner: Gunner

By the way, I know how late it is in the game but really, Gunner is about the worst name in wrestling today.

Backstage Kurt Angle talks about his TNA HOF match. Horrible concept by the way - WWE never put their HOF entry on the line in a match, this just makes the whole thing look more trivial than it already is.

Elsewhere on TNA365cam, Velvet Sky opens a gift from Chris Sabin. The usual stuff from a boyfriend in trouble, except a black somethingorother...

Match 2 - Chris Sabin vs. Austin Aries - TNA X-Division Championship Girlfriend-in-a-cage Match

We're two for two on stupid gimmick matches recycled from yesteryear. I never liked the idea of 'x person in a cage' bouts. Maybe it's just me.

Anyhoo, the gift bag is in the cage with Velvet and at the most opportune time she hands Sabin a teddy bear instead of the black... somethingorother. This leads to Austin getting the pin and the title for the 346th time in the last month.

Winner: Austin Aries

Next up, The American Wolves say the mystery investor will be revealed next week. And people complain that the Daniel Bryan/Wyatt angle was rushed.

Match 3 - Kurt Angle vs. Bobby Roode - TNA Hall of Fame in a Steel Cage Match

We're 3 for 3!

At least this time we get a good, entertaining match out of the deal. It's almost scary how much Bobby Roode reminds me of Chris Benoit now. Leaving aside the Crossface, there's that same edge to Roode once he doffed his mullet... like Benoit... and there's a great wrestler being revealed... like Benoit. Putting Roode and Angle together only elevates young Bobby further.

Early, Angle goes for his top-of-the-cage Moonsault, much like he did... wait for it... against Chris Benoit.

After a good, long match, we get the always popular door vs. climb escape race. Why the matches never start like this... oh wait... we don't want a match to end after 10 seconds do we... Anyhoo, climb beats crawl and Angle wins and is still HOF eligible. Tears... now.

Winner: Kurt Angle

I'm not going to say anything about the next schmoz, because quite frankly Bro-Mans is the single most annoying thing in TNA today and I'm tired of EY and Abyss.

Kurt Angle then spoke about Sting's potential last hurrah. Man, TNA's roster is getting thinner by the moment...

Match 4 - Rockstar Spud vs. Samoa Joe (Regular Match)

Okay we're at 3 for 4, unless you count a squash as a gimmick match. Honestly, I could watch 2 hours of Joe beating up Spud. I'm sorry, but the latter is more than annoying. It's getting to the dangerous X-Pac level of heat.

Winner: Samoa Joe

Match 5 - Magnus vs. Sting (Title vs. Career Match)

The bout was as much a schmoz as the AJ Styles elimination match. I'm starting to think there's an angle developing whereby Sting, Hardy and Styles all return to TNA with the new investor. It wouldn't be fresh but it would be the only logical thing to happen.

Winner: Magnus

Sting's contract is ripped up after the match. Let the WrestleMania rumours officially begin.
