Impact: The coronation of Magnus creates chaos

With the Carter administration behind him, TNA World Heavyweight Champion Magnus has climbed to a level has never previously reached in TNA. Tonight on TNA Impact, a coronation ceremony is held by the Carters to officially announce their new champion in the new year. What will be in store for the ceremony? Plus, Bobby Roode and Kurt Angle bring their rivalry to its final stages! All that and more on this week's edition of TNA Impact!

Recap of all the latest events in TNA

We are on tape from Orlando, Fla. Mike Tenay and Taz have the call for this week.

Kurt Angle makes his way out. Angle says 2013 was one of the worst. Angle says personal issues and his feud with Aces & Eights took a toll his body. Angle declined his TNA Hall of Fame induction to prove that he could earn it back again. 2013 was not his year and he wants to make clear what he plans to do in 2014.

Bobby Roode cuts Angle off and asks if Angle is finally going to leave TNA. After multiple defeats at the hands of him, Roode asks if Angle is ready to walk away and makes a request that Angle finally tell him face-to-face that he is better than him before he walks away.

Angle tells Roode that he will not be leaving and that he plans to make 2014 his year. Angle challenges Roode to one more match to prove that this will be a major change from 2014. Roode believes there is nothing left to prove to Angle or any of the fans. Roode says he has proven his greatness over Angle and taken Angle out of TNA Hall of Fame contention. Roode thinks the two are done, but he says that he will accept one more challenge. Angle needs to put his career on the line and forever put his Hall of Fame induction on hold for Roode to accept the match.

Angle makes the deal and declares that the two will face off at Genesis. He says he has one stipulation himself and that is that the bout will take place in the confines of a steel cage. Roode accepts and he is ready to rumble and tries to sock Angle, but Angle has the drop on him and puts him down. TNA Chief of Staff Rockstar Spud leads security down to end the fighting and informs the two that they will have a tag match tonight to fight it out.

TNA President Dixie Carter previews the coronation of TNA World Heavyweight Champion Magnus. She has handed a letter from a stagehand that came from the courier that simply reads, "see you tonight."

Dixie Carter meets up with Rockstar Spud to get him to find out who is behind the mysterious notice.

TNA Knockouts Champion Gail Kim in the ring with Lei'D Tapa to call out her next challenger. Gail Kim has been unimpressed with the competition of 2013, but promises to make 2014 even better.

Match One: Madison Rayne vs. Gail Kim (w/Lei'D Tapa)

Madison Rayne starts with a crossbody out of the corner. Gail Kim getting tossed from corner to corner, where Rayne works her over with stomps and chokes her with the boot. Spear from Rayne takes Gail Kim down and she follows with mounted strikes. Back to the feet, Gail Kim rips Rayne down by her hair and does some striking of her own. Rayne regains control with a suplex and neckbreaker combo, but Lei'D Tapa prevents any momentum shift by pulling her to the floor outside. Gail Kim brings her back in for a nearfall.

A little contortion leads to a Dragon Sleeper from Gail Kim. This is transitioned into a chinlock. Rayne struggles back to her feet, but the hair again pulled to bring Rayne to the mat. Corner work from Gail Kim putting some pressure on Rayne. Eat Defeat attempt is countered by a backslide for a nearfall from Rayne.

Both ladies down as they each land a clothesline. Rayne immediately takes control as both return to the feet with clotheslines. Running dropkick followed by a push kick to the head. Back splash in the corner and Rayne up top. Rollup attempt is countered by a facebuster that puts Rayne out cold. Eat Defeat attempt is countered by a cradle from Rayne.

Winner by pinfall: Madison Rayne

Velvet Sky getting dolled up backstage. Boyfriend Chris Sabin comes in and informs her that he needs her to listen tonight so he can win back the TNA X Division Championship from Austin Aries. If she can't do that, Sabin plans on leaving without her.

Kurt Angle shown talking to Gunner about his plans for 2014. Gunner volunteers to be Angle's tag partner tonight due to his mutual dislike of Bobby Roode. "Cowboy" James Storm comes in to inform Gunner that he will be somebody's partner tonight.

Match Two for the TNA X Division Championship: Austin Aries (c) vs. Chris Sabin (w/Velvet Sky)

Match starts with Chris Sabin avoiding a lockup with Austin Aries by standing between the ropes. Repeat of the same process and Sabin asks for a kiss from Velvet Sky. He gets one and then receives a corner dropkick from Aries for nearfall.

Aries with a suplex attempt, but Sabin fighting out to land a spinning back kick. Aries locks up the Last Chancery and Sabin calling for Velvet Sky, who won't come. The hold is relinquished and Sabin moves out to berate his girlfriend. Aries runs the head of Sabin into the turnbuckle on the apron and hits an elbow drop inside for a nearfall.

Aries with a stump-puller submission that turns into a bridging nearfall. On the apron, Aries with a corkscrew attack after a shoulder ram. Springboard moonsault connects for a nearfall. Aries in total control here. Aries looking for a suplex, but Sabin counters and hits a Saito Suplex. Sabin now stomping Aries into the corner and hangs him in the tree of woe. Aries sits up, but Sabin clubs him down. Aries counters with a bulldog and the two exchange in the middle of the ring. Sabin sent outside. Double sledgehammer smash cracks Sabin and action moves back inside. Missile dropkick from Aries connects and Sabin in the corner, telling Sky to go. Sky up on the apron and the referee and Aries talking to her. Sabin with a punt to the groin and a rollup.

Winner by pinfall and NEW X Division Champion: Chris Sabin

Post-match, Jeremy Borash interviews Sabin, who thanks himself for the win.

Rockstar Spud reviewing his coronation speech for tonight. He receives a phone call with no one on the other end and remarks that this has happened quite a bit earlier in the day.

Prior to his matchup, Samuel Shaw continues his bizarre behavior towards Christy Hemme by sending her outside to announce his opponent.

Match Three: Samuel Shaw vs. Norv Fernum

Samuel Shaw immediately starts in with a shot. Huge whip into the corner on Fernum. Fernum fighting back with speed and kicks, but Shaw puts him down with a powerslam. Shaw continues to look over at Hemme. Neckbreaker and a head-and-arm choke put Fernum out.

Winner by technical submission: Samuel Shaw

Backstage, James Storm talking about the similarities in all of his partners and says Angle made a mistake by picking Gunner. Storm enters a room and seems pleased by who is in there.

Bobby Roode and James Storm backstage. Roode wants to know why he should trust Storm. Storm says he hates Roode, but he needs to make a point. Storm promises to be out there tonight, whether or not Roode is his partner.

Video package recaps the Dixieland match that won Magnus the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.

Match Four: Kurt Angle & Gunner vs. Bobby Roode & "Cowboy" James Storm

James Storm starts with Kurt Angle. Chain grappling sees Storm get an arm wrench. Angle with one of his own into a hammerlock. Angle with a snap suplex before bringing in Gunner. Storm with a running knee counter and Roode tags himself in. Shoulder bump from Gunner and a a back elbow drop Roode. Gunner has his head bounced off the turnbuckle and it just hypes him up to land a slingshot suplex for a nearfall.

Roode in control with a knee to the stomach, but Gunner fights him off into the corner. There, him and Storm come face-to-face, allowing Roode to recover and land a spinebuster. Storm tags himself back in for a series of nearfalls before working some ground-and-pound. Corner work from Storm brings Roode back in for a double-team back elbow. Roode stomping Gunner down and working him in the corner.

Storm returns with some corner work of his own. Arm wrench into a front facelock from Storm. Gunner looking for the tag and Roode comes in to distract the referee from the tag. Roode in now and the referee a bit confused. Eye rake from Roode and a knee drop bring Storm back inside. Double-team suplex from the former Beer Money team. Side headlock from Storm and both off the ropes. Shoulder bumps knock both men down.

Angle and Roode in. Referee was called to the corner by Roode and didn't see the Gunner tag. Roode goes back to work on Gunner. Angle comes in and suplexes Roode down and hits two German Suplexes on Roode. Storm in and he tries a clothesline, but gets a belly-to-belly suplex himself. Ankle Lock in for Angle on Storm and Roode takes him out from behind.

Gun Rack in on Roode. Angle is outside and Storm returns inside to land the Last Call Superkick on Gunner. Death Valley Driver from Roode lands and plants Gunner into the mat.

Winners by pinfall: "Cowboy" James Storm & Bobby Roode

Post-match, Kurt Angle attacks and Roode quickly gets out of dodge. Storm taunts Gunner with his case as he is laid out in the center of the ring.

Rockstar Spud catches up with Sting. Spud assumed Sting sent the letter, but it was not him, as he only wants to see Ethan Carter III tonight.

Ethan Carter III makes his way out. Video package recaps his encounters with Sting. EC3 believes he has changed the face of wrestling in 2013, though some doubters have questioned his level of competition. EC3 recalls how he beat Sting last night and challenges Jeff Hardy tonight. EC3 instructs Christy Hemme to introduce his opponent.

Hardy's music hits, but no one shows. EC3 calls for the bell to ring and he begins to count. Sting shows up with seconds to spare and he says he won't let EC3 trash talk Hardy. EC3 says he's done with Sting and Sting proceeds to taunt EC3 by calling him Dixie's lapdog. EC3 says he won't be manipulated by Sting and is walked down and out of the ring. Sting continues the lapdog taunts and EC3 accepts the challenge to fight one-on-one at TNA Genesis.

Backstage, Joseph Park and Eric Young discussing tonight's matchup with Bully Ray. Young says he can't help him tonight, but two years ago around this day, Abyss faced off with Bully Ray and Park needs it to come full circle. Bully Ray walks up and warns Park that he will be set on fire for the sins of Ken Anderson if he steps in the ring with him tonight.

Match Five: Bully Ray vs. Joseph Park

Bully Ray sits in the corner and Joseph Park walks up. Park with his hands up and Bully Ray not budging. A punt to the groin downs Park.

Winner by disqualification: Joseph Park

Bully Ray spraying Park down with lighter fluid. Bully pulls out a lighter and looks to light Park on fire. Mr. Anderson comes down to save Park and Bully covers him with lighter fluid. Bully holds the lighter out and walks out with it to safety. Anderson looks befuddled as he tries to help Park.

The coronation starts with TNA Chief of Staff Rockstar Spud and Ethan Carter III. Spud declares that he speaks for the "Carter kingdom." Spud declares this bit of history more important than the Royal Wedding of last year. Spud believes this is something everyone dreams about and sings the praises of Dixie Carter. However, this is also about the TNA World Heavyweight Champion, Magnus. Spud hands it over to the master of ceremonies, EC3.

EC3 says the power in America lies in the "one percent." EC3 talks about his credentials and sings the praises of Magnus, declaring the support of Aunt Dixie to be the power that pushed him to the top.

TNA President Dixie Carter makes her way out. Carter premises her discovery of Magnus and all the challenges he overcame to make his way to the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. Carter implores the fans to stand up as she introduces Magnus.

Magnus comes down to the ring. Magnus takes his throne and demands the fans listen to their champion. Magnus takes time to thank EC3 and Rockstar Spud for planning the ceremony. He also thanks Dixie Carter for giving him the opportunity to be her champion. Magnus now tells the fans that they turned their backs on him by not supporting him when he needed it and this was simply to return the favor. He plans on being champion for a very long time.

Gunner interrupts the ceremony and he has his suitcase in hand.

Gunner says that he is ready to make history and he is ready to fight. Dixie Carter declares that this won't be happening, but Gunner wants it to happen right now. Gunner tosses the Carter administration around. Gun Rack attempt by Gunner on Magnus is stopped by Ethan Carter III and Rockstar Spud, who hold him down.

AJ Styles returns with his belt in hand and the only two men left in the ring are Styles and Magnus. Carter on the apron and she demands that Styles leave the ring. Styles stands in the middle and tells Carter that he has her intellectual property with him. Styles refuses to hand it over and tells Carter to stop having her lawyers chase him around. Styles is here because she screwed these people over by having a farce as their new champion and he needed to come back. Styles challenging Magnus and Magnus seems up for it. Styles needs a contract and Magnus demands Carter give him a contract for one night.

The show closes with Magnus accepting the challenge and telling Carter that he has to fight to be a true champion. Carter storms off to the back as the show closes.
