NXT: Regal and Cesaro battle as NXT recaps 2013

As 2013 draws to an end, even the WWE is taking time to reflect on the monumental year it has had. It is no different for NXT, but tonight, they plan to go out with a bang. Tonight on WWE NXT, the strongest pound-for-pound star in the business, Antonio Cesaro, looks to take on the fading, yet wily veteran in William Regal. Plus, all your favorite moments in NXT recapped! All that and more on this week's edition of WWE NXT!

We are on tape from Orlando, Fla. Renee Young is our hostess for NXT Rewind. Highlights recap the opening of the WWE Performance Center and the NXT Superstars that have made a splash on the main roster in the WWE.

WWE Intercontinental Champion Big E Langston details his rise from NXT to his current status with the belt. Langston thanks the NXT Universe and this is just the beginning of his career.

Antonio Cesaro talking prior to his matchup with William Regal tonight. Cesaro says that Regal's combination of ruthlessness and technique was an inspiration and that Regal was instrumental in his getting a job in the WWE. Tonight, Cesaro plans to show Regal what he had planned on doing and that was surpassing him when the time was right.

Renee Young continues the NXT Rewind with highlights of the triumphs of all the NXT champions.

Devin Taylor is joined by NXT Women's Champion Paige. Paige says Emma may only be just a dancer to her, but she has earned her respect. However, Paige knows the title belt proves she is the best woman in NXT and she sends warning to every Diva in the WWE.

NXT Champion Bo Dallas soon joins Taylor. Dallas says that he knows many want to hear about his long list of accolades achieved this year, but he really wants to talk about his "Bolievers" and the importance of "Bolieiving."

Video package recaps the NXT Championship bout between then-champion Big E Langston and Bo Dallas.

The Wyatt Family are shown. Bray Wyatt says their crusade began in NXT and there wasn't a person who didn't recognize the Wyatt name. Wyatt believed they reigned like kings and they took that with them into the WWE.

Renee Young continues the NXT Rewind with a video package that give a glimpse of future stars in the WWE that can be seen in NXT. Highlights continue with the past, present, and future of the WWE all interacting at moments in NXT.

William Regal discusses his legacy within the WWE. He believes he's been a vicious fighter and a unique entertainer, but he never accomplished his world championship aspirations. Regal believes that is his own fault, but everyone knows he is one of the greatest technical wrestlers of all-time. Tonight, he goes up against a man he believes is ten times the competitor he is and he only has a miracle. But, if it all ends tonight, Regal couldn't think of a better way to go.

NXT Match of the Year is previewed by Renee Young, but The Shield cut the feed. The group says they became the most dominant force in sports entertainment, but also the most destructive force as well. They paved the way for their new victims and the future will still show that everyone should believe in The Shield.

NXT Match of the Year package recaps the two out of three falls match between Sami Zayn and Antonio Cesaro.

Devin Taylor backstage with Sami Zayn. Zayn says it was a difficult match, but he is proud to be included in a Match of the Year candidate while still cutting his teeth in NXT. Zayn is stuck with Leo Kruger and he challenges him to a two out of three falls match for next week.

We are sent to Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton, and Tensai. They have the call for this week's NXT main event.

Match One: Antonio Cesaro vs. William Regal

Lockup and both men exchanging holds. William Regal playing counters to the faster Antonio Cesaro. Regal with an arm drag, but Cesaro continuing to work the wristlock. Regal working out and looking for a headlock. Chain grappling takes us to break.

We return and Regal gets a Death Valley Driver on Cesaro. Cesaro flips out and both men continuing to work for armlocks. Regal on top as it hits the mat and Regal working the arms to grab a few nearfalls. Cesaro pressing Regal down into a bridge and Cesaro working the upper body for himself to earn a few nearfalls.

Regal returns to his feet and lands a knee to the midsection. Straitjacket choke is transitioned across the knees of Regal. Cesaro losing his grip, but he snapmares Regal out to the mat. Reset in the middle now and the two lock arms. Snapmare from Regal. Cesaro with a delayed snapmare to earn a quick nearfall.

Both men exchanging in the corner. Regal works Cesaro down and kicks him with his heel a bit before walking away. Cesaro snaps up and chop blocks the knee. Left knee of Regal slammed across the ring apron as we break.

Cesaro with an ankle lock on the left leg. Elbows across the knee of Regal and Cesaro unwrapping the knee brace of Regal. Regal sits up and crossfaces Cesaro, but Regal having his knee taken out by Cesaro. Strikes and submissions by Cesaro continue to torque the left knee of Regal. Cesaro stretching the knee across the head and Regal gets the rope break. Back to the feet, Regal with two sneaky pin attempts that catch Cesaro off guard for nearfalls.

Regal with a running forearm and he hits Cesaro with a European Uppercut. Cesaro blasts him with a much stronger one then unloads a series of ten with both arms. Cesaro Swing disorients Regal and further torques the knee. Neutralizer attempt is back bodydropped out of by Regal, who hits a knee drop on the arm. Kick to the opposite arm from Regal. Regal with a pair of stomping armbreakers on each arm of Cesaro, preventing lifts from the stronger man. T-bone suplex from Regal converts and he wants a high knee lift, but he can't get a running start. Cesaro with a headbutt, but Regal lands the knee strike. Butterfly suplex attempt is countered by Cesaro, who lifts Regal to his back and completes the suplex with a bridge for a nearfall.

Regal turns out of the bridge and he's looking for the Regal Stretch. Cesaro makes it to the rope before the hold can be applied. Cesaro catches a turning Regal with a dropkick and lands a knee drop to the back of the head of Regal. Cesaro standing over Regal menacingly and looking to pick Regal up. Cesaro looking distraught over having to do this and Regal falls limp to the canvas. Using the trunks of Cesaro, Regal picks himself up right into a Neutralizer.

Winner by pinfall: Antonio Cesaro

The show closes with referees helping Regal up the stage and Cesaro breaking them to end the show with a handshake.
