Smackdown!: Big E Langston delivers an early Christmas surprise to The Shield
By DALE PLUMMER -- SLAM! Wrestling

If you've been too busy with the holiday season to keep up with the going ons in WWE, well you've missed a lot. Randy Orton became the WWE World Heavyweight Champion last Sunday at TLC, officially unifying the top two championship belts. Although, he is actually carrying both belts, so unless a new belt is introduce the idea of the belts being split again will hang over every championship match.

The new WWE WH champ, Randy Orton, kicks off the last Smackdown! before Christmas from San Antonio, Texas. Michael Cole and JBL recap Orton's title win before the champ takes the ring. Orton tells the crowd that even though he cemented his legacy at TLC, his reward was facing an undeserving Daniel Bryan the next night on RAW. Orton claims he beat Bryan, (um, I'm pretty sure you got disqualified with low blow), and then he left Cena laying in the ring after coming to the aid of Bryan. Cena hits the ring here; Orton says he can feel the jealousy oozing out of him. Cena tells Randy to calm down because he got his wish to be the center of the WWE Universe. Cena points out that everyone is now watch Orton, and he cannot get away with anything. Orton says he did what he did to win. Cena points out that Bryan actually won the match by DQ and blasts the champ for taking the easy way out. Orton says Bryan doesn't deserve a rematch.

On cue, Daniel Bryan heads to the ring and tells Orton he gets it. Randy Orton is afraid and tear down the myths the he is better than everyone else. Bryan says Orton doesn't deserve to be called champion. And when Cena gets his rematch and wins, Bryan will finally get his shot at the title. Orton says the Authority will never let the happen, because he is the face of WWE. Bryan leads the crowd in a NO! chant, when the Shield walks out of the crowd to back up Orton. Before The Shield can strike, CM Punk runs down to even the odds, somewhat.

Smackdown! GM Vicki Guerrero walks out on behalf of The Authority to let everyone know that The Shield will take on Cena, Bryan and Punk, tonight.

Match #1 - Big E Langston w/ Mark Henry vs. Jack Swagger w/ Antonio Cesaro and Zeb Colter

Colter stands in the ring with a sign "Deport Santa Claus". And once again, Colter joins commentary and no one pays attention to the action in the ring. Cesaro jumps on the ring apron, but Mark Henry takes care of the distraction. Langston is able to hit the Big Ending on Swagger and pick up th win.

Winner via pinfall: Big E Langston

Match #2 Brie Bella w/Nikki vs. Tamina w/ AJ Lee

The biggest shocker on Sunday, AJ retaining her Diva's title, and not losing it to one of the girls from Total Divas. Although, season one just ended, so there's no need to keep interest in the show until it comes back. AJ joins commentary, talking about wanting to break the record for consecutive days holding the title. She also says she isn't on Total Divas because she was held as a child. Brie pins Tamina after rolling through the frog splash. Afterward, she makes a bee line for AJ and smacks her in the face.

Winner via pinfall: Brie Bella

Match #3 - Sin Cara vs. Brew McIntyre w/ Jinder Mahal

Sin Cara, don't call him Hunico, sure is getting a push lately. You can tell it's not the original Sin Cara, because he doesn't consistentaly botch moves in the ring. Sin Cara hits a senton off the top turnbuckle to get the pin.

Winner via pinfall: Sin Cara

Match #4 Tensai vs. Brodus Clay

Things are not well on Planet Funk. Tensai isn't pleased with Clay's mean streak and the fact that he was attacked after the match on Monday. Minutes into the match, the Funkadactyls dance onto the stage with Xavier woods. Tensai uses the distraction to pin Clay.

Winner by pinfall: Tensai

After the bell, Clay loses his mind, attacking Tensai. Woods runs in and makes the save, chasing Clay out of the ring. The girls joins Tensai and Woods in the ring, as Clay walks to the back. I think Brodus has been officially exiled from Planet Funk.

Match #5 Goldust and Cody Rhodes vs. Erik Rowan and Luke Harper w/ Bray Wyatt

Cole spends the first five minutes of the match, telling us to tweet #Brotherhood when talking about Rhodes and Goldust. The Wyatts are dominating the tag team champs as Cole and JBL argue as they attempt to call the match. Cody gets the hot tag, hitting a disaster kick and moonsault. Rowan breaks up the pin, though. Goldust jumps in and clears the ring. Gooldust takes out Rowan, only to turn into a big boot from Harper. Bray uses the chaos to drive Cody into the ring post. Harper rolls Cody into the ring and sizes him up with a clothesline. Harper covers him to get the win.

Winners via pinfall: Erik Rowan and Luke Harper

After the match, Bray hits the ring, but before he can do any damage, Daniel Bryan runs down with a chair. He ducks Harper and Rowan and is able to jump Bray. The ring is cleared and the Wyatts regroup on the floor. Goldust joins Bryan in the ring and the Wyatts heads to the back.

Damien Sandow runs down Christmas before his match, promising to cancel it on Monday at RAW.

Match #6 Damien Sandow vs. The Miz

What is going on with The Miz? He flips between heel and face on a weekly basis. The Miz only really works as a heel, no one wants to cheer for a cocky Miz. Sandow steals the win with a roll up and a grab of the tights.

Winner by pinfall: Damien Sandow

Match #7 Fandango w/ Summer Rae vs. Kofi Kingston

Fandango picks up another win after hitting the leg drop.

Winner by pinfall: Fandango

Renee Young tries to ask Daniel Bryan about his upcoming match tonight, but she never gets the chance, as the Wyatts attack. The drag him to the loading dock and throw him off the ledge.

Match #8 CM Punk and John Cena vs. The Shield

Vicki Guerrero says despite Bryan being attacked, the show must go on and makes this a handicapped match.

Cole talks about trouble with in the Shield, which cause JBL to go on a tirade about Cole citing himself as a source. In the ring, Cena rolls way from a splash as Rollins crashes into the turnbuckle. Ambrose tags in, not allowing Cena to get the tag. Rollins takes a cheap shot a Punk, drawing him into the ring and allowing Rollins to get away with some sheninigans. Cena fights back, catching Ambrose with a DDT. Punk gets the hot tag, taking Rollins down with a spinning heel kick, and then knocking Reigns off the apron. Punk knocks Rollins out of the ring, follows with a dive through the ropes, rolls him back into the ring for the elbow drop and then looks for the GTS. Ambrose hits the ring, but is able to fight off him off and then hit a DDT on Ambrose and a neck breaker on Rollins at the same time. Punk covers, but Reigns breaks it up. Reigns keeps up the attack, and the ref has to call for the bell.

Winner by DQ: John Cena and CM Punk

Cena tries to make the save, but runs into a spear from Reigns. Punk can't overcome numbers and is shoved out of the ring. Cena is driven into the mat with a powerbomb. Punk crawls back in the ring to keep fighting, but The Shield over powers him. Rollins calls for the power bomb, when Big E Langston hits the ring. The IC champ clears the ring. The Shield climb onto the apron, but make their retreat when Punk backs up Big E with a steel chair.
