Smackdown!: Eight Man tag match warms up Hell in the Cell
DALE PLUMMER -- SLAM! Wrestling
Anyone else feel worn out on Pay Per Views? It's only been three weeks since the glorified RAW that was Battleground, where nothing was settled. If you think that Hell in a Cell is going any different because HBK is the special referee, well, just save your money and wait for Survivor Series. Smackdown! wraps everything up going into Hell in the Cell from Birmingham, Alabama.
Michael Cole introduces Triple H to the ring to kick off the show. Cole gets down to business, asking Hunter about the Big Show situation. Hunter say he hopes Show is happy, because he got six people fired. All those that helped Show hijack the RAW feed on Monday were let go. Hunter also says that Big Show has officially been let go and now he is irrelevant. Hunter goes on to day that because of the pending lawsuit, he can't talk about anything else regarding the Big Show. Cole asks Hunter about the World Title picture and Trips sells the match. Cole moves onto the WWE title. Hunter says his friend Shawn Michaels is the perfect man to be the special ref because he knows how the Cell can affect a man. Hunter goes on to say that he shares a common view with HBK on how the WWE should operate. He knows HBK will do the right thing.
Daniel Bryan crashes interview, saying the right thing to do is to let him and Randy Orton settle this thing once and for all. Bryan knows that HBK won't show any favoritism and he will prove HHH wrong by becoming the new WWE champion. Bryan leads the crowd in the YES chant as Triple H walks to the back.
Match #1 - Rowan and Harper w/ Bray Wyatt vs. The Usos
The Miz joins Cole and JBL on commentary, since he has had his troubles with the Wyatt Family. The Miz describes Bray as looking like Charles Manson fell asleep at a Jimmy Buffett concert. Miz attacks Bray at ringside with kick to the face, Rowan takes off after Miz, allowing the Usos to get the pin on Harper.
Winner via pinfall: The Usos
After the match, Bray tells Miz to enjoy his world as long as he can, because they are going to take it all away.
Match #2 – Nikki Bella w/ Brie vs. AJ Lee w/ Tamina
I'll admit I missed this match because when checking the card for the PPV, I got distracted by a photo shoot of Layla on WWE.com. Anyway, I think Tamina took out Brie on the outside and then AJ locked in the Black Widow hold on Nikki, who tapped out.
Winner via submission: AJ Lee
The Wyatt Family caught the Miz backstage and he is in bad way. They have him knocked out and chained up somewhere backstage.
Match #3 - 3MB vs. Los Matadores w/ El Torito
The Real Americans decided to watch this match from the top of the ramp. Drew McIntyre gets double teamed and dropped with a side Russian Leg Sweep and Fernando gets the pin.
Winner via pinfall: Los Matadores
After the match Jinder Mahal gets gored by El Torito. Zeb Colter calls out Los Matadores for "kidnapping" EL Torito and then leads the crowd in the "We the people!" chant.
Match #4 – Ryback and Paul Heyman vs. CM Punk - No Disqualification Match
Well, they don't really face Punk, instead it's someone Heyman is calling CM Skunked. To his credit, Skunk does have a white stripe down his head. Anyway, Ryback and Heyman make quick work of Skunk. Ryback softens him up, so Heyman can go to town with a Kendo stick. Ryback finishes him off with the Shell Shock and Heyman covers him for the win.
Winner by pinfall: Ryback and Paul Heyman
After the match, Heyman cuts a promo on Punk.
Big E Langston asks Vicki Guerrero if he can take Miz's spot in the 8 man tag team Main Event. Vicki was going to ask Hunter, but Langston goads her into saying yes.
Alberto Del Rio calls himself a real life Mexican super hero and he won't lose to John Cena on Sunday.
R-Truth and Santino Marella pimp WWE Shop Zone. I guess if you can't get a match on TV, this is the next best thing?
Match #5 – The Great Khali w/ Hornswoggle and Natalya vs. Fandango w. Summer Rae
More filler? WWE is not doing a good job selling Sunday's show. Summer tries to distract Khali and Natalya pulls her off the apron. Summer slaps her and the two fight into the rig. The ref calls for the bell. Khali the his Fandango with the overhead chop.
Match #6 – Daniel Bryan, Big E Langston, Cody Rhodes and Goldust vs. Randy Orton and The Shield
Dean Ambrose and Cody Rhodes face off to start the match. Goldust gets the quick tag; taking Ambrose down with a clothesline. Cody sends Ambrose over the top rope and we go to break.
After the commercials, Langston hits a belly to belly suplex on Seth Rollins and tags in Cody. Rollins kicks out of roll up and them slams Cody face first into the turnbuckle. Langston tags in, driving Reigns into the corner. Goldust tags in, nearly getting a pin with a cross body off the top rope.
Randy Orton tags in and trades blows with Rhodes, who then stomps Orton to the mat. Orton gets double teamed, but fights back to hang Cody up on the ropes. Orton knocks Cody to the floor and Ambrose tags in. The US champ slams Cody into the security barrier before rolling him back into the ring. Rhodes rolls away from a knee drop from Orton, but then catches him on the turnbuckle and hits him with a back breaker off the turnbuckle. Rhodes rolls to the floor and we go to commercial.
After the break, Cody is in desperate need of a tag. He tries to fight off Rollins, but can't get to the corner. Cody catches Rollins coming off the top rope and is able to tag in his brother. Goldust goes to work on Rollins but does not see Reigns make the blind tag. Reigns flattens Goldust and then drives him into the corner. Goldust is whipped into the corner, but is able to take out Reigns and Rollins with a springboard back elbow. Bryan gets the hot tag and cleans house. Bryan dives through the ropes to take out Orton and then connects with a missile drop kick to Ambrose in the ring. Bryan kicks Ambrose in the head applies the Yes Lock. Reigns breaks the hold. Big E blasts Reigns, but is drop kicked out of the ring by Rollins. Cody catches Rollins with a disaster kick and then takes out the Shield on the outside. Ambrose ducks a flying Bryan and tags in Orton. The Viper nails Bryan with the elevated DDT and looks for the RKO. Big E runs in, blocks an RKO from Orton. Big E shoves Orton into the running knee from Bryan, who covers Orton to get the pin.
Winner via pinfall: Daniel Bryan, Big E Langston, Cody Rhodes and Goldust
