Smackdown!: The Rhodes boys upset the Wyatt Family
By DALE PLUMMER -- SLAM! Wrestling

Welcome to Pay Per View season in WWE. Battleground is over, but now there are only two weeks to ramp up for Hell in the Cell. Remember when Hell in the Cell matches were something special? Now there's an entire show built around it. And tonight's Smackdown better start fast from Columbus, Ohio to build for Hell in the Cell.

Vickie Guerrero walks to the ring with absolutely no fanfare to start the show. That's right, no music, no excuse me, nothing; she is all business, tonight. If you missed RAW on Monday, and didn't read fellow SLAM! Wrestling contributor Nick Tylwalk's, first off, shame on you, secondly Guerrero booked Alberto Del Rio to defend his belt at Hell in the Cell versus John Cena. Oh, and Big Show knocked out Triple H.

Vickie tells us Show is out of job, when Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio interrupts, begging her not to make him defend against John Cena. Vickie tows the company line, saying it's best for business. Del Rio says it's not fair and wants to what he can do to change her mind. Vickie wants a kiss. Del Rio pecks her on the cheek, but Vickie wants a big ole smooch. Del Rio finally plants a big one on her, but Vickie won't reconsider.

Mr. Money in the Bank Damien Sandow finally breaks up this nonsense. He calls Del Rio a phony. Sandow says he is attracted to Vickie's superior intellect and Del Rio's actions do not befit that of a champion. Vickie then books a match between Sandow and Del Rio in a non title match. Del Rio decks Sandown with a cheap shot as Vickie leaves the ring. Sandow fights back, sending Del Rio scurrying from the ring.

Match #1 - R Truth vs. Curtis Axel w/ Paul Heyman - Intercontinental Title Match

Truth avoids a chop in the corner, and then catches Axel with a hip toss. Axel rolls out of the ring to catch his breath. Truth goes out after him, and forces him back into the ring. Axel is shot into the ropes, but catches himself on the ropes. Truth charges and is dropped onto the apron. Axel sends him to the floor with a shoulder charge and we go to commercial.

After the break, Axel sends Truth to the mat with a shot to the back of the head. Truth shoots off the ropes with a clothesline, but can only get a two count. Truth connects with a standing drop kick, but still can't get the pin. Truth hits the axe kick, but Axel is able to grab the rope to break the pin. Axel fights his way off the apron and then plants truth with a swinging face buster. Axel covers and gets the win to retain the belt.

Winner via pinfall ... and still Intercontinental Champion: Curtis Axel

Match #2 Los Matadores vs. Los Locales

JOBBER ALERT! JBL tries to sell Los Locales as long time rivals, please. Los Matadores win in a squash.

Winner via pinfall: Los Matadores

After the match, El Torito delivers a hurricarana and then a seated senton to one of the Los Locales.

Match #3 Natalya, Eva Marie and Kaitlyn w/ JoJo vs. Brie Bella, Naomi and Cameron w/ Nikki Bella

So with AJ Lee on the shelf, there's no reason to pay attention to the Divas division. This match doesn't even feature any feuds. Naomi pins Kaitlyn after rolling though a pin attempt.

Winner via pinfall: Brie Bella, Naomi and Cameron

Renee Young is backstage with Cody Rhodes, who may have raided Green Arrow's closet, and Goldust. The two thank their father for supporting their win over The Shield on Sunday and then say they are ready for the Wyatt family.

Match #4 Alberto Del Rio vs. Damien Sandow - Non-title Match

Sandow aggressively starts the match by slamming Del Rio into the turnbuckles. Del Rio slows Sandow down by going to the outside. Del Rio catches Sandow with a snap mare, and then forces him into the corner. Del Rio goes up top, taking Sandow down with a double axe handle. A back body drop over the top rope sends Del Rio to the floor. Sandow corrals Del Rio back into the ring and hits him with a back suplex. Del Rio sidesteps a charging Sandow, who slams shoulder first into the ring post. Sandow sends Del Rio over the top rope again with a clothesline, and we go to break.

After the commercials, Del Rio drop kicks Sandow and then runs his face into the ring ropes. Sandow body slams Del Rio and drops The Elbow of Disdain. Del Rio kicks out. Sandown misses a knee drop and Del Rio kicks him in the face. Sandow kicks out of the pin. Del Rio works over the arm, but Sandow counters the cross arm breaker with a chin breaker. Del Rio counters a neck breaker with a back stabber, but then misses an enziguri. Sandow uses the opportunity to hit a swinging neck breaker. Sandow pummels Del Rio on the apron. The champ kicks Sandow in the knee to create some room, and is able to apply the cross arm breaker.

Winner by submission: Alberto Del Rio

Match #5 The Prime Time Players and The Great Khali vs. 3MB

And now it's time for some nonsense. Khali finally ends with the over head chop to Heath Slater.

Winner via pinfall: The Prime Time Players and The Great Khali

Match #6 Cody Rhodes and Goldust vs. Rowan and Harper w/ Bray Wyatt

Even Goldust is freaked out by the sheep mask the Rowan is wearing. Goldust knocks the mask off and gets the tag to his brother. Cody runs into the brick wall that is Rowan and is knocked to the floor. We then go to commercial.

After the break, Cody gets the tag to his brother. Goldust knocks Rowan off the apron and hits Harper with an atomic drop. He follows with a running bulldog, but Harper counters it. Rowan gets the tag and drops a knee to the mid section. Goldust gets double teamed in the corner. Harper drops a series of elbows, but can't get the pin. Goldust avoids a drop kick, but Harper cuts him off from making a tag. Rowan slams Goldie to the mat and then whips him into the corner. He follows by locking in a bear hug. Goldust elbows his way out, but can't make it to his partner. Goldust connects with a springboard back elbow, but still can't make the tag. Rowan claws the face a Goldust and tosses him across the ring. Goldie ducks the big kick and hits a running bulldog. Cody gets the hot tag, sending Harper to the mat with a missile drop kick and a running high knee. The Disaster Kick connects, but Rowan breaks up the pin. Cody sends Rowan to the floor and the sidesteps Harper, who falls to the floor. Cody climbs the turnbuckle and takes out Rowan with a flying cross body, but then ends up on the wrong end of a big boot from Harper. Cody is tossed back into the ring. Harper whips him into the corner but Cody uses the momentum to flip over Harper and roll him up. Harper can't kick out and Cody gets the pin.

Winner via pinfall: Cody Rhodes and Goldust

Cody and Goldust get out of town as a livid Bray Wyatt hits the ring, as this was the Wyatts first loss. The show ends as Cody and Goldust make their way up the ramp.
