Smackdown!: Del Rio, Christian warm up for SummerSlam
By DALE PLUMMER -- SLAM! Wrestling

With less than two weeks until SummerSlam, the Smackdown centric part of the card is pretty underwhelming. Alberto Del Rio versus Christian? Yawn! Cody Rhodes facing off against his former friend Damien Sandow is interesting, but that's it. We need more matches! Maybe tonight's Smackdown from Rockford, Illinois can add some spark to the show.

Match #1 - Randy Orton vs. Rob Van Dam

The fight spills to the floor, where Orton is slammed into the barricade and then draped over it. RVD connects with a spin kick off the apron and we go to an early break.

After the commercials, Orton pushes RVD off the top turnbuckle to the floor. Orton drags RVD back into the ring, and applies a chin lock. RVD breaks free, kicks Orton in the chin and connects with a split legged moonsault. Orton side steps RVD in the corner and deals a back breaker that stuns both men. Orton follows with a clothesline and a power slam. RVD kicks out at two. Orton moves RVD to the apron but cannot hit the DDT. Orton dropkicks RVD on the apron and Orton is able to set up and hit the elevated DDT. Orton has the RKO countered by a kick to the chin. RVD hits rolling thunder and goes up top. RVD misses the Five Star Frog splash as Orton rolls away. The Viper pops up and drops RVD with an RKO. Orton covers to get the win.

Winner via pinfall: Randy Orton

Miz TV

Miz welcomes AJ Lee and Big E Langston to the ring. Miz wants to know what the relationship is between AJ and E. AJ puts Big E in the friend zone. Miz points out all the "friends" that AJ has had in the past couple of years. Miz thinks AJ is the problem, not the boyfriends. AJ says all her friends leave her, but the Divas Title never will. Dolph Ziggler walks out to the ring. Ziggler tells AJ that she isn't over him. AJ starts to have a break down, when Kaitlyn makes her way to the ring. All four start to yell at each other, when Miz shouts them all down. Miz, the host of SummerSlam, makes a match for the PPV; AJ and Big E versus Kaitlyn and Ziggler. AJ jumps Kaitlyn, as Langston pushes Dolph away. After Langston pulls Kaitlyn away, Ziggler hits him with a Zig Zag and Kaitlyn catches AJ with a spear.

Alberto Del Rio wants to know why he has to take on Christian, tonight. The World Champ isn't happy with how Vickie has been treating him.

Match #2 Fandango w/ Summer Rae vs. Kofi Kingston

For those of you who missed RAW, Kofi beat Fandango on Monday. Fandango drives Kofi into the ring post on the outside, after Summer fakes an injury. Fandango rolls Kofi into the ring and drops the leg from the top rope to pick up the win.

Winner via pinfall: Fandango

Renee Young stops Daniel Bryan backstage and asks about the corporate makeover. Bryan says he likes the way he looks, which is why Wade Barrett got a makeover. Bryan says he will make history by beating John Cena at SummerSlam.

Match #3 Daniel Bryan vs. Wade Barrett

Bryan takes down Barrett with a clothesline, but Barrett responds by knocking Bryan out of the ring. Barrett whips Bryan into the ring steps and then back into the ring. Barrett delivers a kick to the face but cannot get the pin. A drop toe hold sends Barrett into the turnbuckle, but he then runs into the Winds of Change. Barrett grabs a pair of beard clippers but Bryan fights him off. Bryan delivers a running knee from the apron and follows with a flying head butt from the top rope. Bryan slaps on the YES! lock and Barrett taps.

Winner via submission: Daniel Bryan

Renee Young gets a word with Damien Sandow. Sandow isn't pleased re-watching the footage of Cody Rhodes tossing his Money in the Bank into the Gulf of Mexico. Sandow debuts a new leather bound edition of the MitB briefcase and issues a warning to Alberto Del Rio.

Match #4 Kane versus 3MB- 3 on 1 Handicapped Match

Kane is at no disadvantage in this match as he runs roughshod over 3MB. Kane pins Jinder Mahal to get the win.

Winner via pinfall: Kane

After the match, Bray Wyatt appears on a screen over the crowd. Wyatt doesn't think Kane has grasp the idea that fire cannot control his family. In fact the fire fears the Wyatts. Kane responds by making the ring shoot fire.

Match #5 Christian vs. Alberto Del Rio - Non-Title Match

I smell possible shenanigans in this match.

Del Rio tosses Christian off the top turnbuckle and then drives both feet into his back. Christian is in trouble at the ring post, but is able to catch Del Rio show boating. Christian misses Del Rio coming off the top and crashes into the barricade. Back in the ring, Del Rio kicks Christian in the face and forces him into the corner. Christian fights his way out, but gets caught climbing the turnbuckle. Both men push each other and fall to the floor and we go to break.

After the commercials, both men are back in the ring. Del Rio climbs the turnbuckle, but Christian catches him and sends him to the mat with a hurricarana. Del Rio forces Christian back into the corner, but Christian fights out and connects with a missile drop kick. Del Rio kicks out of a lateral press, but Christian catches him with a back elbow. Del Rio counters the Kill Switch and hits a tilt-a-whirl back breaker. Del Rio counters another Kill Switch with a back stabber, but still can't get the pin. Christian ducks a kick and spears Del Rio, who kicks out at two. Del Rio tosses Christian shoulder first into the ring post. Del Rio goes for the cross arm breaker, but Christian counters into a small package. Del Rio kicks out and lays out Christian with a kick to the face. Christian catches Del Rio with a roll up and is able to get the three count.

Winner via pinfall: Christian

After the match, Del Rio grabs Christian, but it backfires as Del Rio eats a Kill Switch. Damien Sandow runs to the ring with a ref and is ready to cash in the Money. Sandow is jumped by Cody Rhodes, though, never giving Sandow a chance to cash in the briefcase.
