Smackdown: Del Rio's fiesta doesn't go as planned
MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling
Tonight on WWE Friday Night Smackdown: It's been a few weeks since he won the title, but Alberto Del Rio holds his championship fiesta celebration tonight. In addition, Christian teams with The Usos to face The Shield and Sheamus and Damien Sandow brawl in a Dublin Street Fight. Should be a good one!
And we are TAPED! from Columbia, S.C. Michael Cole and John Layfield are our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG, V)
Match #1 - Dublin Street Fight - Sheamus (Dublin, Ireland) vs. Damien Sandow (Palo Alto, Calif.)
There are things like a bar with two taps, a green kendo stick, a flag, and more around ringside. Sheamus in control early, then grabs a sack of potatoes from under the ring and hits Sandow in the midsection with them. He tags a bite of raw potato and spits it in Sandow's face. He tries to pull Sandow up the steps, but Sandow clips his feet and Sheamus goes crashing face-first into the steps. Sandow drills Sheamus with a bar stool and takes over.
We're back into more back-and-forth action. It spills back to the outside and Sheamus hits a rolling senton on the floor. Then back in the ring hits a flying battering ram. Sandow, though, drives the edge of the chair right into the chin of Sheamus. Sandow goes to work with a kendo stick, hitting him so many times that he breaks it. But Sheamus gives Sandow a dose of his own medicine (or medicane?) and starts drilling Sandow with the kendo stick. Sheamus sets up two chairs in the ring and wants to hit White Noise on them, but Sandow slides out. Sheamus, though, hits him with a kendo stick that sends Sandow sitting in the chairs. Sheamus follows with a Brogue Kick to the sitting Sandow and that ends it.
Winner via pinfall: Sheamus
Daniel Bryan and Kane are backstage. Kane says he doesn't want to hear any bragging about Bryan's win over Randy Orton on Monday, but he does offer congratulations. Bryan said he didn't need Kane's help Monday, but if Kane needs his help tonight, he'll be on commentary.
It's time for Miz TV with Paul Heyman. It doesn't get very far when Heyman calls out Curtis Axel. Miz does some real bad Star Wars comedy. It ends with Miz challenging Axel to a match for the Intercontinental Championship tonight, but Heyman says his clients don't fight for free, especially in a title match. Miz cuts Heyman off, but Axel attacks and hits a twisting neckbreaker to lay him out.
Match #2 - AJ Lee (Union City, NJ) vs. Natalya (Calgary, Alberta)
Before the match can start, Kaitlyn comes out dressed as AJ. She says AJ's dated just about everyone, even the timekeeper, the doctor and Lilian Garcia. The bell rings and Natalya goes to work. AJ uses a head scissors to flip it when Kaitlyn starts skipping to and around the ring. AJ starts screaming and takes her eye off the prize, and Natalya rolls her up and pins her.
Winner via pinfall: Natalya
Kaitlyn lays AJ out with a spear after the match.
Vince McMahon is backstage with Teddy Long. He wants to know what Long has in store for the World Heavyweight Championship Money in the Bank ladder match. He says he could've done what Vickie Guerrero did and select all the top stars, but Long says he is thinking of the future of the company and outside the box. So he's chosen Wade Barrett, Jack Swagger, Antonio Cesaro, Fandango, Dean Ambrose, Cody Rhodes and Damien Sandow for the match.
Match #3 - Kane (Hell, Fire & Brimstone) vs. Randy Orton (St. Louis, Mo.)
Kane in control, but Orton hits a backbreaker and both men are down. Back up and Orton with a Thesz Press and some mounted strikes. Kane comes back with a big boot. He eventually hits a side slam for two. They end up on the top rope and Orton wants a superplex, but Kane drops him, rises and hits a flying clothesline. Kane lines Orton up and wants the choke slam, but Orton catches him with an elbow coming in and then hits a scoop slam for two.
They trade some counters until Kane knocks Orton off the top rope and to the floor. Orton, though, hits the draping DDT and Kane takes a moment outside to regain his composure, but Daniel Bryan comes from commentary and gives Kane some encouragement and throws him back in the ring, but only at the count of four. Orton immediately hits the RKO and that does it.
Winner via pinfall: Randy Orton
Match #4 - Justin Gabriel (Cape Town, South Africa) vs. Ryback (Sin City)
Gabriel fights mightily, but falls to the Shell Shock.
Winner via pinfall: Ryback
Match #5 - Dean Ambrose (Cincinnati, Ohio), Seth Rollins (Davenport, Iowa) & Roman Reigns (Atlanta, Ga.) vs. Christian (Toronto, Ontario), Jimmy & Jey Uso (San Francisco, Calif.)
The Shield in control early. Christian gets the tag and comes in hot. He hits a second-rope elbow on Ambrose and a Scorpion Death Drop. He wants a spear, but he's tripped up. That doesn't stop him, though. He hits a flying crossbody, but Ambrose rolls it through for two, but this time on top allows Ambrose to gain the edge. Christian, though, comes back with a tornado DDT, but Reigns breaks it up and splats Christian over the top rope. The Usos combine to wipe Reigns out on the outside, but Rollins comes flying over with a huge flip dive. Ambrose wants to get in on the action, but as he turns to hit the ropes, Christian spears him and that does it.
Winners via pinfall: Christian, Jimmy & Jey Uso
It's time for FIesta Del Rio. He says at his celebration, he's only going to speak Spanish. He does so for a bit, then bashes in a pinata with Ziggler's face on it. He calls Ziggler out and Ziggler comes out on the ramp. Ziggler takes his time and hits the ring and takes down Del Rio. He disposes of Ricardo Rodriguez, but that allows Del Rio to get a brief edge. Rodriguez tries to go to the top rope but Ziggler puts him through the table with the chips and salsa on it. He hits the Zig Zag on Del Rio and wants to smash a guitar over his head when Del Rio bails. Of course, though, Ziggler cranks Rodriguez with it. Then Ziggler plays with the Mariachi band as balloons fall from the ceiling.
