WWE Main Event: The Miz in action leading up to Payback

WWE Payback goes down on Sunday night and as we inch closer, many on the WWE roster are looking to get some last-minute tuneups before the pay-per-view. Tonight on WWE Main Event, The Miz and Damien Sandow see action before their respective matches on Sunday. All of that and more on this week's edition of WWE Main Event!

We are on tape from Greensboro, N.C. Josh Mathews and WWE Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett have the call for this week.

Match One: The Miz vs. Cody Rhodes

Lockup leads to a Cody Rhodes side headlock. The Miz sends him off the ropes, but Rhodes comes back with a shoulder block. The Miz with a side headlock and a shoulder block of his own. The men exchanging counters, leapfrogs, and ducks until Miz slingshots him into the corner for a rollup nearfall.

Miz holding the side headlock. Rhodes trying to fight out. He gets it back to the feet and works Miz into the corner. Knee to the abdomen and strikes follow from Rhodes. Miz fights out with a clothesline. Rhodes moves to the apron and gets a shoulder bump to the stomach. Sunset flip is rolled out of by Miz, who gets a kick to the head for a nearfall.

Rhodes regains control by tossing Miz into the ring post on his shoulder. Rhodes with strikes, but Miz now fighting back with strikes of his own. Rhodes with a body shot that stifles all the aggression and gets a dropkick for a nearfall. Sleeper in for Rhodes. Miz fights out and strikes Rhodes over and over. Miz looks for the Figure Four, but Rhodes kicks him away. Miz runs back in the ring and gets kicked in the head as we head to break.

Rhodes holding a chinlock in on Miz as we return. Miz fights his way out, but Rhodes attempts a Saito Suplex. Miz flips out and tosses Rhodes through the ropes to the floor. Baseball slide kick puts Rhodes into the barricade.

Flying axhandle smash from Miz on the apron leads to Rhodes being tossed into the barricade over and over. Miz back inside, but Rhodes outside and he wraps the arm of Miz around the ring post. Rhodes yanks him to the floor and heads inside.

Miz makes the count with one to spare. Rhodes working Miz over in the corner, specifically targeting the damaged forearm area of Miz. Nearfall for Rhodes leads to him working an armbar variation. Miz fights out, but Rhodes locks a hammerlock and drops Miz on the arm on the top rope for a nearfall.

Rhodes continuing the attack on the left arm. Front suplex puts Miz down on his stomach to grab Rhodes a nearfall. Rhodes again working an armlock before relinquishing the hold. Rhodes pays homage to Bob "Hardcore" Holly by draping Miz over the rope and punting the stomach. Rhodes backs off and charges, but gets backdropped to the floor.

Rhodes gets back in and eats a few clotheslines. Atomic drop and a big boot send Rhodes into the corner. Miz gets bodydropped to the apron, but he ducks under the bottom rope to get a nearfall off of a rollup. Rhodes charges Miz, but is sent splashing into the corner. Seated clothesline in the corner and Miz heads up top to hit a flying punch for a nearfall.

Both men exhausted here and Rhodes is first up to work the injured arm of The Miz. Rhodes tries an attack, but Miz ducks and lands the backbreaker and neckbreaker combo for a nearfall. Skull-Crushing Finale gets avoided by Rhodes and he sends Miz into the ring post on his shoulder. Disaster Kick connects for a close nearfall.

Rhodes stomping away on Miz. Miz looking for the Figure Four, but Rhodes out and he hits the ropes. Boot misses and Miz with a rollup. He transitions into the Figure Four Leglock.

Winner by submission: The Miz

The Miz and Wade Barrett exchanging some words from a distance prior to their upcoming bout at WWE Payback on Sunday.

Damien Sandow has a few choice words prior to his match. He notes that this crowd has made him physically ill. Sandow has aimed to enlighten the unwashed masses and he believes that he has raised the bar too high for the fans. Sandow promises to speak more slowly and use smaller words so they can understand him. Sandow says that he will be using physicality to get his point across and this will continue on until Sunday night.

Match Two: Damien Sandow vs. Sin Cara

Damien Sandow brawling with the smaller Sin Cara to start. Sin Cara down in the corner and Sandow stomping away. Sin Cara fights back with leg kicks. Springboard back elbow is avoided by Sandow, but he can't avoid the hurricanrana that follows. Sandow cornered and he ducks between the ropes to avoid the Sin Cara attack. Sandow rams Sin Cara into the corner and strikes away. Snapmare, knee to the back, and a sleeper locked in for Sandow. Sin Cara fights out with kicks and an enzuigiri. Springboard arm drag and missile dropkick from Sin Cara.

Sandow moves outside. Sin Cara attempts to follow by hopping up the turnbuckle for a flying attack, but Sandow runs up the ramp to avoid further damage as we break.

We return with Sandow landing a scoop slam. Stomps follow. Sandow misses a splash in the corner and Sin Cara attempts to take advantage. Sandow counters the attempted DDT by turning it into a facebuster for a nearfall.

Sandow now working Sin Cara into the mat with more powerful strikes. Slam for Sandow connects and he drags Sin Cara across the apron. Sandow with an elbow outside and a nearfall when he returns to the ring.

Chinlock in for Sandow. Sin Cara fights out and lands a kick to the throat, but Sandow follows up with a smashing elbow. The Elbow of Disdain follows this to earn another Sandow nearfall. Sandow again working a sleeper. Sin Cara fights out and Sandow sends him into the ropes. Springboard back elbow connects for the luchadore. Springboard crossbody earns a quick nearfall for Sin Cara. Sin Cara with another nearfall off of a rollup.

Flying armdrag furthers the momentum shift for Sin Cara. Enzuigiri from the apron pops Sandow in the back of the head. Sin Cara heads up top, but comes down on his back on a swanton attempt. The Silencer connects.

Match Three: Tons of Funk vs. The Usos

Jimmy Uso starts off with Brodus Clay. Lockup leads to Clay tossing Jimmy to the mat. Clay celebrates the best way he knows how by busting a few moves. Jimmy with a strike to the head and a chop, but the bigger Clay isn't affected by it and puts him down with a shoulder bump.

Jey Uso and Tensai are brought in. Lockup and Tensai lands some strikes that put Jey down. Jey cornered and Tensai hits a monkey flip. Lockup again and Jey grabs a side headlock. Tensai attempting to work him off, but Jey holding on for dear life. Jey sent off the ropes and he knocks Tensai down with a shoulder block.

Clay in and a double-team punch connects. Clay misses on two straight elbow drops and Jimmy is brought in. Kicks to the stomach and head of Clay are followed by punches. Running forearm in the corner connects and Jimmy is on fire. Unfortunately, that fire is put out by a big headbutt from Clay. After clearing Jey off the apron, t-bone suplex lands for Clay. Splash dialed up and connects, but Jey gets there in time.

Tensai sent off the ropes and Jey plants him with a Samoan Drop that sends both men out. Jimmy cornered and Clay misses a splash. Jey in and the double-team superkick connects. Jimmy again legal and he hits the splash from up top.

Winners by pinfall: The Usos

The show closes with The Usos celebrating with a little dance of their own.
