Smackdown!: What weak link? Daniel Bryan takes out The Shield
By DALE PLUMMER -- SLAM! Wrestling

It's appropriate that the next WWE Pay-Per-View is named Payback, because there is a long list of Superstars that want to get their hands on the Shield. The Hounds of Justice dominated the Show last week, and look for more of the same as Smackdown comes to us from Edmonton.

Match #1 - Kane w/ Daniel Bryan vs. Seth Rollins w/ Roman

Kane gets an early cover after a big boot, but Rollins easily kicks out. The big red monster follows with a vertical suplex and then applies a chin lock. Rollins fights out but runs right into a back body drop. Rollins cuts Kane down coming off the ropes and stomps away at him. Rollins catches Kane with a DDT off the middle turnbuckle, but Kane kicks out of the pin. We go to break.

After the commercials, Kane fires off right hands and whips Rollins the corner. Rollins runs into a sidewalk slam and Kane follows with a flying forearm off the top turnbuckle. Reigns hops onto the apron, distracting Kane. Rollins nails Kane from behind and goes to the top turnbuckle. With the official still distracted, Bryan knocks Rollins off the top turnbuckle, allowing Kane to hit a choke slam. Kane covers and gets the win.

Winner via pinfall: Kane

Reigns and Rollins continue to argue their case, but the next match is starting now.

Match #2 – Roman Reigns w/ Seth Rollins vs. Daniel Bryan w/ Kane

Bryan pounds on Reigns in the middle of the ring, but can only get a two count. Bryan takes Reigns down with a leg drag and then beats on him. Reigns slows Bryan down with a back elbow and we go to commercial.

After the break, Reigns is in full control, taking Bryan down with a shoulder tackle. Reigns misses a splash in the corner and eats turnbuckle. Bryan connects with a running drop kick in the corner, and then follows with a second one. Reigns ducks a kick and head butts Bryan in the stomach. Bryan shoots off the rope and gets Reigns into a crucifix pin. Reigns rolls through, but Bryan counters into the LeBell lock. Reigns crawls to the ropes and Rollins helps him get there. Kane takes out Rollins but then also takes a shot at Reigns after Roman punched him; getting Bryan disqualified.

Winner via DQ: Roman Reigns

After the bell, Team Hell No argues up the ramp. Bryan is yelling that he doesn't need anyone's help.

Damien Sandow has another lesson for Sheamus. Last week he tried to teach Sheamus that brains will always triumph over brawn. Today Sandow wants to play the shell game and so does Sheamus, as he makes his way down the ramp. Sheamus chooses, poorly. Sandow is going to allow Sheamus to pick from the two remaining cups and once again Sheamus chooses poorly. Sheamus wants to see the red ball under the last cup. I think Sandown may be up to no good. Sheamus grabs the last cup and there is no ball. Sheamus ends Sandow's nonsense with a Brogue Kick.

Match #3 – Curtis Axel w/ Paul Heyman vs. Sin Cara

Wait a minute! We saw this match last week! Although tonight we get to hear Axel talk and he really gets the crowd riled up gloating about his wins versus Triple H and John Cena. As for the match, Axel wins, again, this time with the PerfectPlex.

Winner via pinfall: Curtis Axel

Match #4 – Alberto Del Rio w/ Ricardo Rodriguez vs. Big E Langston w/ AJ Lee

Langston forces Del Rio into the corner, but Del Rio fights his way out with a series of kicks. Langston drops Del Rio on the ropes and then drives a knee into the midsection. Del Rio goes for the backstabber, but E counters into belly to belly suplex. Del Rio floats over Big E; hitting the backstabber. Del Rio follows with a German Suplex. Del Rio tries to lock in the cross arm breaker, but Big E is able to powers out. Del Rio rolls out of the ring, and AJ is able to get in a cheap shot. A blinded Del Rio rolls into the ring, and Big E is able to hit the over the shoulder cutter and get the pin.

Winner via pinfall: Big E Langston

Match #5 – Ryback vs. Kofi Kingston

In preparation for his match with John Cena, Ryback is now driving an ambulance to the ring. Kofi drills Ryback with a dropkick off the top rope and looks for Trouble in Paradise. Ryback catches him, but Kofi escapes and nearly gets a pin off a cross body block. Ryback grounds Kofi and then delivers the Meathook clothesline. Ryback then drops him with the Shell Shock and covers to get the win.

Winner via pinfall: Ryback

After the match, Ryback sets up a table in the ring and powerbombs Kofi through it. In fact, Ryback scores the hat trick, driving Kofi through three tables.

Renee Young asks Chris Jericho about his challenge to CM Punk. Jericho rambles on about dogs and illnesses and neutering.

Match #6 –Chris Jericho vs. Cody Rhodes

A well placed knee to the gut sends Rhodes to the floor. Jericho connects with a baseball slide. Back in the ring, Jericho misses a charge in the corner, allowing Rhodes to get a near fall. Rhodes applies a chin lock. Jericho powers out and then connects with a double axe handle off the top rope. Cody blocks an attempt for the Walls and then catches Jericho in the corner. Rhodes hits the Alabama Slam and goes to the top rope. Jericho catches Rhodes and slams him to the mat. Rhodes counters the Lionsault by getting his knees up. Rhodes goes for the Disaster kick, but Jericho blocks it and counters into the Walls of Jericho. Rhodes taps out.

Winners via submission: Chris Jericho

Match #7 – Randy Orton vs. Dean Ambrose

Orton starts the match off with a head lock. Ambrose powers out and beats Orton into the corner. The Viper explodes out of the corner with a clothesline and follows with an uppercut to Ambrose. Orton shoots off the ropes and hits a Thesz press. Ambrose rolls out of the ring and Orton follows, catching him with a clothesline. Ambrose drives Orton into the ring steps and follows up with a clothesline as we go to break.

We return from commercial and Orton is in a head lock. The Viper breaks free, but gets kneed in the gut. Ambrose locks in a sleeper hold. Orton breaks the hold with a back suplex. The two men trade blows. Orton hits a clothesline and follows with a power slam. Ambrose is whipped onto the apron but is able to counter the DDT by pulling Orton onto the top rope. Ambrose goes high, but Orton catches him with a drop kick coming off the top rope. Orton hits the elevated DDT and looks for the RKO, but Ambrose rolls out of the ring. Rollins and Reigns hit the ring and attack Orton. The ref calls for the bell, as The Shield beat on Orton. Team Hell No runs down to make the save. Daniel Bryan fights off all three members of The Shield. He drop kicks Ambrose in the middle of the ring, and then dives through the ropes to take out Reigns and Rollins.

Winners via DQ: Randy Orton

Daniel Bryan, Kane and Randy Orton stand tall in the middle of the ring to end the show.

The Shield stands tall in the ring to end the show.
