Smackdown!: Ryback rules Jericho
By DALE PLUMMER -- SLAM! Wrestling

Extreme Rules is over a week away and the card is pretty much set. Now the trick is to get people to order the show and quite frankly the show isn't that impressive right now. So what do you have for Smackdown! tonight from the campus of North Carolina State?

Chris Jericho kicks off the show with the Highlight Reel and his guest tonight is Ryback, the challenger for the WWE title. Jericho says he can see where Ryback is coming from, but doesn't care and actually becomes hostile. Jericho all but dares Ryback to take a shot, when Teddy Long walks out and makes a match for tonight. Ryback sucker punches Jericho before heading to the back.

Match #1 Kofi Kingston vs. Cody Rhodes

Kofi opens up the match with a deep arm drag. A knee to the stomach sends Kofi to the mat and Rhodes follows with an inverted suplex. Kofi connects with a standing drop kick. Rhodes rolls though a cross body off the top rope but cannot get the pin. Cody looks for the Disaster kick, but Kofi counters with Trouble in Paradise. Kofi covers and gets the win.

Winner via pinfall: Kofi Kingston

So Monday night Brock Lesnar trashed Triple H's office at WWE headquarters. Um, okay.

Renee Young tries to interview Jack Swagger, but Zeb Colter hijacks the microphone. Colter says Swagger made a statement on Monday and he will make one when he beats Big E Langston tonight.

Match #2 Big E Langston w/ Dolph Ziggler and AJ Lee vs. Jack Swagger w/ Zeb Colter

Alberto Del Rio joins the announce position, as Michael Cole informs us the Ricardo Rodriguez suffered an injury on Monday night after Swagger nailed him with a ladder. Before the match even starts, Del Rio slides a ladder into the ring. Langston and Swagger get in a tug of war over the ladder. Colter distracts Langston, allowing Swagger to hit him with it. Ziggler runs in, drop kicking the ladder into Swagger and then drilling Colter outside the ring. Del Rio runs in, taking out Ziggler. He drives the ladder into the champ's face. Del Rio slides out of the ring and hits Swagger with the ladder.

No Contest

Match #3 Dean Ambrose w/ Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns vs. Daniel Bryan w/ Kane

Bryan beats on Ambrose forcing him into the corner. Ambrose rolls out of the ring, but Bryan follows him with a dive through the ropes and we go to break.

After the commercial, Ambrose gets a near fall after dropping an elbow. Ambrose drives a knee into Bryan near the ropes and follows with kick to the chin. Bryan side steps a spear, sending Ambrose shoulder first into the ring post. Bryan follows up with a drop kick and then hangs Ambrose in tree of woe. A drop kick to the gut spills Ambrose to the mat. Bryan goes to the top, as Kane stares down the rest of The Shield. Bryan connects with a missile drop kick. Ambrose kicks out of the pin. Bryan slaps on the No Lock, but Reigns is able to save his partner, as Kane brawls with Rollins. Kofi Kingston runs in to even the odds, but in the process gets Bryan disqualified. The Shield is driven from the ring and retreat back up through the crowd.

Winner via DQ: Dean Ambrose

Earlier today, Mark Henry pulled a tractor trailer truck, just like they used to do in the Strong Man Competitions. This was just a warm up, as Henry will try to pull two trucks tonight.

Matt Stryker gets Henry's thought before attempting this feat of strength. Henry doesn't really say anything important to Stryker. The Prime Time Players and Rhodes Scholars cheer Henry on, as he struggles to move the trucks. After struggling, Henry pulls the trucks 20 feet to "set" the World record.

Renee Young asks Randy Orton about getting blindsided by Big Show on Monday. Orton says there will be no antidote for what he does to Show at Extreme Rules, because he's the viper, get it?

Match #4 Sweet T w/ Brodus Clay vs. Big Show

T mounts some offense off the bell, but Show catches him with the KO punch. Good night, Sweet T. Show covers for the win.

Winner via pinfall: Big Show

After the bell, Clay checks on his partner, only to be speared. Show looks for the KO again, but Randy Orton runs in, hitting an RKO.

AJ and Kaitlyn run into each other backstage and get kind of catty. Natalya steps in and AJ runs off. She also tells Kaitlyn that Khali still hasn't figured out who her secret admirer.

Match #5 Chris Jericho vs. Ryback

Ryback backdrops Jericho to the apron and then punches him to the floor. Back in the ring, Ryback applies a chin lock. Jericho breaks free and answers with a forearm shot. Ryback is knocked to the outside and we go to commercial.

After the break, Ryback stomps on Jericho inside the ring. Jericho delivers a double axe handle off the top rope, but runs into a power slam. Jericho rolls away from a splash and answers with a lionsault. Jericho lands on his feet on a press slam, but cannot connect with the Code Breaker. Ryback delivers a power bomb. Jericho gets caught trying to deliver a cross body and Ryback tosses him with a fall away slam. Ryback follows with the Meat Hook. Jericho counters the Shell Shock though and is able to lock in the Walls of Jericho. Ryback powers to the ropes to break the hold. Jericho hits the Code Breaker and Ryback rolls out of the ring. Ryback slams Jericho into the security barrier and then picks him up. Jericho is driven into the ring post and the ref calls for the disqualifying Ryback.

Winner via DQ: Chris Jericho.

After the bell, Ryback clothesline Jericho over the announce table before heading to the back.
