Smackdown!: Orton wants Elimination Chamber revenge against Swagger
By DALE PLUMMER -- SLAM! Wrestling
The problem with taping a show on Tuesday and then airing it on Friday is that sometimes things happen. Like the number one contender being pulled over for speeding and then getting arrested for DUI and possession. Obviously this won't be addressed tonight, (if ever), as Josh Matthews and John "Bradshaw" Layfield bring us all the action live-on-tape for Biloxi, Mississippi.
World Heavyweight Champion, Alberto Del Rio kicks off the show, of course being introduced to the ring by Ricardo Rodriguez. The champ talks about how he retained his title at Elimination Chamber and that he will be facing Jack Swagger at Wrestlemania, (for now at least). Del Rio calls Swagger out on his YouTube comments concerning immigration and immigrants. The champ says his title in the product of hard work and wants Swagger to come to the ring. Instead, Del Rio gets Randy Orton, the last man eliminated on Sunday.
Orton claims that the World Title shot was taken from him by Jack Swagger, even though Orton respects what Swagger did, but he still wants to take out his anger on the number one contender. Orton asks Del Rio to step aside, just for tonight, so Orton can take a shot at Swagger.
Smackdown! GM Booker T interrupts the plans with his own idea for tonight. Booker says Del Rio will face Wade Barrett in a Champion versus Champion match, and Randy Orton will indeed get his shot at Jack Swagger.
Match #1 – Sheamus vs. Damien Sandow
Remember when WWE was pushing the tag team division? That lasted, what a whole six months? Sandow says he will put an end to Sheamus's reign of terror.
Sandown and Sheamus trade blows, but the Celtic Warrior gains the upper hand, knocking Sandown to the mat with a clothesline. Sheamus sends Sandow to the outside, driving him into the security barrier. Back in the ring, Sandow fights back, but not for long. Sheamus ties Sandow up in the ropes, chopping away at his chest.
As we come back from break, Sandow has Sheamus in a rear chin lock and the connects with the Elbow of Disdain. Sandow takes a bow and beats Sheamus on the apron. Sheamus fights his way out of the corner, but Sandow slaps on a head lock and drops Sheamus into the ropes. Sandow shoots of the ropes, driving a leg across Sheamus's back. The Celtic Warrior fights back, spearing Sandow in the corner, and build momentum with a series of axe-handles. Sandow counters with a neck breaker, and gets a near fall. Sheamus ducks a kick and counters into White Noise. Sheamus looks for the Brogue Kick and connects. He covers Sandow and gets the win.
Winner via pinfall: Sheamus
In case you haven't heard, Wrestlemania 30 will be in New Orleans. Somebody just keep Jack Swagger away from Bourbon Street. What? Too soon?
I can't take Fandango seriously, it makes me think of Chris Kattan's Mango character from Saturday Night Live.
Match #2 – Kaitlyn and Layla vs. Tamina and Aksana
Earlier today, Kaitlyn ran into Cody Rhodes. She complimented him on his creepy mustache (my words, not hers). In the match, Kaitlyn spears Tamina to get the pin.
Winner via pinfall: Kaitlyn and Layla
Zeb Coulter is getting Jack Swagger fired up, when Wade Barrett tells Swagger that he is behind him. Coulter tells Barrett he is part of the problem and should go back to where he came from.
Match #3 – Jack Swagger w/ Zeb Coulter vs. Randy Orton
Orton and Swagger lock up to start the match. Orton smashes Swagger in into the turnbuckle and stomps him into the corner. Orton follows with a back suplex. Swagger whips Orton into the corner, but Orton bounces back with a clothesline and then applies and chin lock. Orton connects with a standing drop kick, and then works over the ankle. Swagger rolls out of the ring, and grabs Orton, slamming his leg into the ring post.
Back in the ring, Swagger looks for the ankle lock. Orton fights it off and sends Swagger from the ring. The Viper connects with a clothesline on the outside and we go to commercial.
After the break, Swagger and Orton are trading punches in the middle of the ring. Orton whips Swagger to the apron, but Swagger is able to block the elevated DDT. The fight once again spills to the floor and the Viper is whipped into the ring post. Swagger slams Orton's head into the steps and then rolls him back into the ring. Swagger charges Orton, who back drops him over the ropes to the floor. Orton the drops Swagger onto the security barrier. Swagger cuts Orton down getting back into the ring, following with a splash from the corner. Orton block and counters a vertical suplex into one of his own. Orton then drives Swagger shoulder first into the ring post and follows with a scoop slam. Orton hits a back breaker and Swagger rolls to the apron, where Orton is able to hit the elevated DDT. Orton looks for the RKO as Coulter pulls Swagger to the apron. Orton breaks his set up. Swagger thumbs Orton in the eye, and quickly rolls him up and gets the pin.
Winner via pinfall: Jack Swagger
Wade Barrett is "starring" in the new movie Dead Man Down. I say "starring" because if you blink during the trailer you missed him.
Matt Stryker is with Wade Barrett, but Sheamus calls Stryker out for calling Barrett the star. Barrett calls Sheamus out on losing to The Shield two nights in a row.
Match #4 – The Miz vs. Cody Rhodes
I don't know about you, but I can't stand Miz as a face. The cocky, smarmy persona just doesn't work if you are a good guy. And now Cody Rhodes is calling that thing on his face a "love-stache." Gross.
Rhodes goes to work early on the injured shoulder of the Miz. A drop kicks ends Miz to the mat, but he kicks out after a two count. Rhodes rolls through a sunset flip and kicks Miz in the face. Miz regains the upper hand with a boot to the face, but the runs shoulder first into the turnbuckle. Rhodes sets up the Alabama Slam, but Miz counters into the figure four and Rhodes taps out. Miz picks up the win.
Winner via submission: The Miz
If I want to watch Swagger and Coulter's YouTube videos, I'd go to YouTube.
Match #5 – Wade Barrett vs. Alberto Del Rio - Champion vs. Champion Match
Before the bell, Jack Swagger and Zeb Coulter walk out on stage to watch the match.
Barrett beats on Del Rio into the corner, but Del Rio reverse the attack and then follows with a kick to the back. Barrett turns his attention to Rodriguez, allowing Del Rio to land a drop kick through the ropes.
After the break, Barrett knocks Del Rio off the top turnbuckle to the outside. Barrett then sends the World Champ into the ring steps. Barrett chokes Del Rio on the ropes and the knees him in the face. The IC champ finishes him off with a kick that sends Del Rio to the floor. After rolling Del Rio back in the ring, Barrett can only get a two count. Del RIo ducks a clothesline and answers with one of his own. The World Champ hits at Tilt-a-Whirl back breaker and follows with a kick to the face. Del Rio makes the pin, but Barrett kicks out at two. Barrett hits the Winds of Change, but Del Rio kicks out. Del Rio answers with a back cracker off the ropes, but only gets two count. Del Rio looks for the cross arm breaker, when Swagger starts making his way down the ring. Barrett quickly rolls up Del Rio, but only get s two count. Del Rio ducks the Bull Hammer clothesline and is able to lock in the cross arm breaker. Barrett taps out.
Winner via submission: Alberto Del Rio
The show ends with Swagger staring Del Rio down from the ramp.
