WWE Main Event: Cesaro hangs with Ryback

With WWE Royal Rumble right around the corner, things are starting to wind down. Still, there is momentum to be gained prior to the big event and this is reflected in the main event of this week's episode of Main Event. WWE United States Champion Antonio Cesaro has been featured quite frequently on this very show, but tonight, he takes on the monster known as Ryback. A huge matchup between two of the most dominant WWE Superstars headlines this week's show.

We are taped from Sacramento, Calif. Michael Cole and The Miz greet us and preview this Sunday's Royal Rumble.

Matt Striker with Ryback backstage. Striker asks how Ryback is preparing for the Royal Rumble match. Ryback responds that this is his match for the taking. The two exchange awkward stabs at humor before Ryback heads off for his match.

Match One: Antonio Cesaro vs. Ryback

Cesaro has a mic prior to the match. Antonio Cesaro takes a shot at The Miz, his opponent on Sunday night. Cesaro says that Ryback is what is wrong with America, as he believes he is entitled to something by the incessant "feed me more" chants. Cesaro states that everyone must ask nicely for what they want and wants to give the crowd a lesson in manners.

Ryback is done with the lecture and makes his way to the ring.

Match starts with a lockup. Cesaro with a hammerlock into a side headlock. Big boot from Cesaro, but Ryback knocks him down as he goes to the well one too many times. Side headlocks and throws galore for Ryback now. Cesaro muscles him into the corner and has a few European uppercuts in store. Cesaro is placed in the opposite corner and eats a splash. Ryback eats a huge Cesaro clothesline on the turnaround for a nearfall.

Cesaro up top and Ryback catches him, swiftly putting him down. Cesaro sent hard into the turnbuckles off a hard Irish whip. Ryback now working the power offense on the smaller Cesaro. Cesaro gets the boot up as he is cornered and heads up top. Flying European uppercut puts Ryback down hard and Cesaro hooks the leg for another nearfall on the behemoth.

Cesaro using a head and arm choke on Ryback. Ryback sent into the ropes and comes off with a Thesz press on Cesaro. Cesaro's head is bounced off the mat like a basketball. Gorilla press puts Cesaro up and down. Cesaro clotheslined to the outside and he seems to have given up on the match. The Miz isn't having that and sends his opponent for Sunday back inside.

Cesaro uses the brief distraction to take advantage of Ryback in the ring. Running knee earns Cesaro a nearfall. Ryback comes back with a few clotheslines and a spinebuster that plants Cesaro on the mat. Ryback setting up and converts on the Meathook Clothesline. Cesaro again rolls outside and is crawling up the ramp. Cesaro heads all the way back and it appears he has brought a self-imposed end to his own night.

Winner by countout: Ryback

Video package recaps the history between WWE World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio and Big Show over the past couple of weeks.

Big Show with Matt Striker. Striker asks how Show defends his actions over the past couple of weeks. Big Show says that everyone in the WWE reeks of weakness and that no one will able to stop him from getting what he wants, especially this Sunday.

Match Two: The Usos vs. Team Rhodes Scholars

Damien Sandow and Cody Rhodes have a pair of mics. Sandow requests that everyone remain silent while his mustachioed best friend addresses the crowd. Rhodes proceeds to degrade The Usos and says that this is simply a stepping stone before Sunday.

Cody Rhodes starts with Jimmy Uso. Rhodes opens up with a kick to the midsection and a side headlock. Jimmy Uso counters with powerful strikes and locks in an armbar on Rhodes. Jimmy Uso turns Rhodes in the corner and yanks on the ends of his mustache. Rhodes ducks outside to evade a huge kick. Sandow is brought in and locks in a headlock. Jimmy Uso grabs the hammerlock and puts Sandow down. Jey Uso in and a double-team grabs him a quick nearfall.

Sandow tries working Jey in the corner, but a little pop-and-lock puts him back in control. Sandow moves outside to escape the onslaught and Rhodes is brought back in. The two brawl and Rhodes grabs an upper hand. Rhodes looking for an attack on the lower half of Jey on the ring post, but Jey ranks Rhodes face-first into the post. Jimmy Uso tagged in and Rhodes is put down immediately on the outside. Sandow looks to help his teammate out as we break.

Jimmy Uso in with Damien Sandow. The Usos maintain control on "The Intellectual Savior of the Masses," prompting him to bring in Rhodes. Rhodes eats a hip toss and immediately tags out. Jimmy Uso with a backbreaker on Sandow and Jey Uso in with a leg drop across the throat from the top. Nearfall for Jey Uso and he continues to power Sandow down. Sandow in the corner, but Jey misses a splash and Sandow capitalizes with huge stomps.

Rhodes is brought back in and works on fatiguing Jey Uso. Front suplex earns a nearfall and Sandow is brought back in. Sandow with stomps and he locks in the legscissors on the torso of Jey. Rhodes brought back in to muscle the fatigued Jey Uso. Jey looks for the tag after a brief burst of offense, but Rhodes hits a drop toehold to prevent it. Sandow in with a boot to the face. Russian legsweep and the Elbow of Disdain land for a nearfall.

Sandow once again locks in the body lock with the legscissors. Jey Uso with huge chops to the chest to get out, but Cody Rhodes brought in and locks in the abdominal stretch.. Jey Uso gets the tag and his brother Jimmy comes in like a house on fire. Sandow gets rolled up for a nearfall and eats a huge kick. Jey Uso in and goes up top, but Rhodes drags out his brother for a distraction. Sandow crotches Jey Uso on the top and hooks the leg.

Winners by pinfall: Team Rhodes Scholars

The group celebrates as we fade to black.
