Smackdown: Show tries to anger Sheamus
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling
Tonight on WWE Friday Night Smackdown: We're just hours away from TLC and the no contact clause between Big Show and Sheamus is causing quite a bit of drama as Show looks to get Sheamus to assault him to void Sunday's title match. Would he? Should be a good one!
And we are TAPED! from Brideport, Conn. Josh Mathews and John "Bradshaw" Layfield are our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG, V)
Match #1 - The Big Show (Tampa, Fla.) vs. R-Truth (Charlotte, NC)
This is all Show early on. He lights up Truth with slaps to the chest, but gets distracted by Sheamus, who along with Antonio Cesaro, is on commentary. That allows Truth to land a kick, but Show just starts beating him up more. Cesaro gets in Truth-s face, but Sheamus comes and shoves him back.
Truth barely makes it into the ring before the count, courtesy of Show. Truth jumps on Show's back but gets slung to the mat. Show goes for a big elbow but Truth moves. He hits a scissor kick but Show emphatically kicks out. One counters and a KO punch later, it's over.
Winner via pinfall: The Big Show
Big Show gets in Sheamus' face and dares him to hit him. Sheamus isn't, but Cesaro shoves Sheamus into the champion. Show stands there for a second and then realizes that Sheamus touched him and starts selling his arm and saying "you touched me!"
Show is backstage looking for Booker T. He finds him and tells Booker that Sheamus clearly violated the no contact clause. Booker isn't buying it and says, as far as he's concerned, the match is still on. Show is not pleased.
Damien Sandow is in the ring. He talks about looking for an apprentice but it's been like looking for a needle in a haystack. So it is with esteemed pleasure that he re-introduces his tag team partner and best friend, Cody Rhodes.
Match #2 - Cody Rhodes (Marietta, Ga.) & Damien Sandow (Palo Alto, Calif.) vs. Jimmy & Jey Uso (San Francisco, Calif.)
Rhodes Scholars take the early edge, but The Usos fire up and hit the big butt bomb, but Sandow gets in and rolls one of them up, hooks the trunks that's it.
Winners via pinfall: Damien Sandow & Cody Rhodes
Big Show and David Otunga are in the ring, here to protest Booker's decision to allow the title match to happen. Otunga says they have no choice but to bring this before the WWE Board of Directors. He says they are going to demand Sunday's title match be called off and that Booker T is removed as general manager of Smackdown.
This brings Booker out. He says it's about the spirit of the rule and says Otunga and Show can go to the board, but the title match is still on. Otunga says just because Booker went to prison, that doesn't make him a legal expert. Otunga says after he sees to it that the board fires Booker, that they fire Sheamus, as well.
This brings Sheamus out with a chair. He threatens until Show says the contract is still valid in his opinion, too. Show leaves and Sheamus lays Otunga out with a Brogue Kick.
Backstage, Randy Orton is laid out by The Shield.
Match #3 - Aksana (Lithuania) vs. Kaitlyn (Houston, Texas)
The commentators can't even be bothered to talk about this match as it's going on, so I guess I don't need to either. This went way too long and featured fake tan spots on the canvas and Kaitlyn wins with a gutbuster.
Winner via pinfall: Kaitlyn
It's time for Miz TV. His guests are Team Hell No. Bryan says the time for talking is done. Kane says if The Shield has done one thing, it's put he and Bryan on the same page. They are interrupted by a video from Dean Ambrose's web cam. They say justice will be served. Kane asks why wait until Sunday and Roman Reigns says this is something they agree on.
THe spotlight goes and we see The Shield in a suite. They start making their way down when Ryback comes down to join his Sunday teammates and The Shield stops dead in their tracks and head back to the skybox.
Match #4 - Titus O'Neil (Tampa, Fla.), Darren Young (Miami, Fla.), Primo & Epico (San Juan, Puerto Rico) vs. The Great Khali (Punjab, India), Hornswaggle (Parts Unknown), Justin Gabriel (Cape Town, South Africa) & Tyson Kidd (Calgary, Alberta)
Kidd gets the win for his team by rolling up Primo.
Winners via pinfall: Tyson Kidd, Justin Gabriel, Hornswaggle & The Great Khali
The keep brawling after the match before the faces finally run off the heels.
Match #5 - Kofi Kingston (Ghana, West Africa) vs. Alberto Del Rio (San Luis Potosi, Mexico)
Kingston clotheslines Del Rio over the top rope and then slingshots himself onto Del Rio on the outside.
Del Rio is control as we return. He hits the jumping corner kick for two. Del Rio maintains his control with a chinlock but Kingston works his way out of it. He starts to fire up but Kingston catches him in the air and hits a back suplex for two. Del Rio goes for a suplex, but Kingston slips out and gets an Oklahoma roll and pins Del Rio.
Winner via pinfall: Kofi Kingston
Wade Barrett tries to sneak attack Kingston but Kingston ducks it and hits Trouble in Paradise.
Match #6 - Sheamus (Dublin, Ireland) vs. Antonio Cesaro (Lucerne, Switzerland)
Cesaro in control early, but Sheamus takes over. He lands a big shot that drops Cesaro to a knee and follows with a shoulder tackle from the top rope. He follows up with the blows on the ropes. He suplexes Cesaro back into the ring and then we see Big Show throw William Regal down on the entrance ramp. Show clocks Regal with a chair right into Sheamus' arms. As all this is going on, the referee is counting.
Winner via countout: Antonio Cesaro
Sheamus is angry as the show goes off the air.
