Smackdown: Will Booker T grant Sheamus' wish?
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on WWE Friday Night Smackdown: It's the final stop before SummerSlam and Alberto Del Rio is out to make a statement. He wants his title shot back. Sheamus wants to fight Del Rio. What will new GM Booker T say? Elsewhere, Randy Orton battles Daniel Bryan and Del Rio takes on Chris Jericho. Should be a good one!

And we are TAPED! from Austin, Texas. Josh Mathews and Michael Cole are our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG, V)

Alberto Del Rio is out to start the show. Del Rio demands his world title match back. He says he's not leaving the ring until Booker T reinstates his world title match. Booker says what Del Rio did stepped across boundaries and that won't be happening on Smackdown. As Del Rio comes with a rebuttal, he is interrupted by Chris Jericho.

Jericho asks Del Rio to shut up. They exchange some, what I assume to be verbal barbs, in Spanish. Jericho suggests that after he beats Dolph Ziggler at SummerSlam that he'll take Del Rio's place and face Sheamus for the title. Del Rio says that's not going to happen. Booker speaks up and says tonight, Jericho will face Del Rio.

Match #1 - Rey Mysterio (San Diego, Calif.) & Sin Cara (Mexico City, Mexico) vs. The Miz (Cleveland, Ohio) & Cody Rhodes (Marietta, Ga.)

The high-fliers get rolling in the early going but a Miz distraction allows Rhodes to hit a big clothesline and they take over. Cara finally gets the tag to Mysterio and he comes in and is rolling on Rhodes. Cara gets involved, taking out Miz, but Rhodes tries to take his mask off as Cara tries to skin the cat. Only problem here is that Rhodes puts himself in perfect position for the 619, which Mysterio hits. He follows with the top rope splash and gets the win.

Winners via pinfall: Rey Mysterio & Sin Cara

Match #4 - Daniel Bryan (Aberdeen, Wash.) vs. Randy Orton (St. Louis, Mo.)

Orton gets Bryan on the top rope and hits a big superplex. Both men down with Orton favoring his knee. That makes this a perfect time for some…

We're back and it's more back-and-forth action but Orton's knee is becoming a problem. But Bryan gets distracted by the "Yes!" chanting crowd and runs shoulder-first into the ring post. Scoop slam lands for Orton and he starts entering that special place. They end up on the outside and Orton reverses an Irish whip and sends Bryan crashing into the barricade. But Bryan comes back and sends Orton knee-first into the steps. Back in the ring, Orton hits the back-breaker but Bryan kicks out at two.

Bryan wants to go to the top but Orton cuts him off and hits the draping DDT out of the corner. He wants the RKO but Bryan turns it into the No Lock right in the centre of the ring. As he does, Kane's corner post pyro goes off and the arena goes red and Kane's music hits. Bryan goes out of the ring and looks around but can't find Kane. He enters the ring and runs right into the RKO.

Winner via pinfall: Randy Orton

This one is over in a hurry as Cesaro whips Ryder into the ropes and finishes him with the Neutralizer.

Chris Jericho is walking through the back for his match when he's attacked by Dolph Ziggler.

Match #6 - Alberto Del Rio (San Luis Potosi, Mexico) vs. Chris Jericho (Winnipeg, Manitoba)

Jericho is able to rally and be competitive after the Ziggler attack but Del Rio grounds him and takes over. Jericho fires up and knocks Del Rio down but eats a kick right to the spot where Ziggler cracked him with the briefcase. Jericho, though, lands a kick and hits a Lionsault. Jericho counters Del Rio into the Walls of Jericho. Del Rio fights it and is able to push Jericho off and Ziggler, who came to ringside, low bridges Jericho. Ziggler throws Jericho back in the ring and Del Rio hits a big kick to the head and pins him.

Winner via pinfall: Alberto Del Rio

Del Rio goes after Jericho again and locks in the cross-armbreaker while Ziggler bad mouths him. Sheamus runs out for the save and he takes Del Rio and goes to town on him. Del Rio kicks the bad arm and wants the cross-armbreaker but Sheamus takes both of them to the floor. Del Rio takes off and escapes through the crowd.

As Sheamus checks on Jericho, Booker T's music hits. He questions what Sheamus is doing here. Sheamus says he wants the match with Del Rio at SummerSlam. Booker says Sheamus is injured. Sheamus says they'd have to rip his arm off and even that might not be enough for him not to compete.

Sheamus insists on the match and Booker agrees. It's on. Sheamus will face Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam.
