Impact: Aces and Eights spoil Roode-Aries rematch
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on Impact Wrestling: Last week, Aces and Eights made their presence felt by taking out both Hulk Hogan and Sting. This week, their path of destruction knows no bounds, as they lay out more active wrestlers as the Bound For Glory Series continues on Open Fight Night with the group ruining the main event between Bobby Roode and Austin Aries. Should be a good one!

Tonight's show emanates LIVE! from the Impact Zone in Orlando. "The Professor" Mike Tenay and The Tazz are our hosts.

A cold open to Tenay and Taz, who discuss last week's attack by Aces and Eights on Hulk Hogan and Sting. They say Hogan suffered a fractured pelvis and is on the sidelines. We see photos from him in the hospital and a graphic photo of the staples in his side. They do not have an update on Sting and note neither of them are in the Impact Zone tonight.

It's Open Fight Night and the call-outs will go in order of the standings, so points leader James Storm is out. He gets the mic and offers a congratulations to Austin Aries for his TNA World Heavyweight Championship win. He says people have asked where that leaves him and he says he's in first place in the BFG Series. But he offers a note to Bobby Roode. The title is business and he wants to carry the company, but Roode is personal and he wants to kick the crap out of him.

For his call out tonight, he wants to call out the lion, not the cub, so he's going to call out the greatest wrestler to ever step in the ring, Kurt Angle. Well, Angle's music plays twice and he's nowhere to be found. Storm tells a cameraman to go to the back to go get him and we see Angle getting beat down by Aces and Eights with a steel pipe. Angle is totaled.

Samoa Joe is out. He says no one would call him out, so he's going to pick a fight for himself. So he's going to call out someone he's always had a probably with: The Pope.

Match #1 - Bound For Glory Series - Samoa Joe (Isle of Samoa) vs. The Pope (Harlem, NY)

Pope goes to work with punches and a knee and is able to run Joe into the turnbuckle. Joe rolls to the outside. They go back in the ring and Joe tries to get going with punches but Pope flattens him out and locks in a crucifix and then rolls it over into a pin but Joe gets out. Pope with the 4-Up and then goes to work with elbows and punches but Joe catches him out of nowhere in an armbar and that does it.

Winner via submission (10 points): Samoa Joe

Jeff Hardy is out to make his callout but before he can, Robbie E's music hits. He says Hardy, like everyone else, is ducking him, and he's calling Hardy out and there's nothing he can do about it. Why? OOOOOOH. Because Hardy's not on the list, bro!

Match #3 - Bound For Glory Series - Jeff Hardy (Cameron, NC) vs. Robbie E (Seaside Heights, NJ)

Competitive match in the early-going but Robbie feigns an eye injury and Robbie T pulls Hardy out of the ring and smashes him. Hardy rolls back into the ring and Robbie goes for a cover but Hardy kicks out. Robbie with a headlock but Hardy fires up and hits Whisper in the Wind for two. Robbie rolls outside to Robbie T. Hardy comes to dive on them but T pulls E out of the way. E gets back in the ring and Hardy attacks T. The referee counts to 10.

Winner via countout (5 points): Robbie E

Match #4 - Bound For Glory Series - Mr. Anderson (Green Bay, Wisc.) vs. AJ Styles (Gainesville, Ga.)

Anderson grounds Styles in the early-going. Anderson maintains control for much of the match. Anderson has him locked in a clinch that Styles is finally able to break. Styles tries to get going with a float over but Anderson goes right back to the clinch. They botch a head scissors and Styles hits the springboard flying forearm for two.

They trade reversals and Styles with a roll up for two. Anderson hits the Plunge but Styles kicks out at two. Styles with a big kick. He goes to the top but Anderson cuts him off. Anderson wants a superplex and he hits it. He covers but Styles kicks out. Styles wants the Clash but Anderson squirms out and goes into a lateral press, hooking the leg with the hand and he gets it.

Winner via pinfall (7 points): Mr. Anderson

Styles is brooding in the ring when Claire Lynch comes through the crowd with a mic. She says she's been calling him all week and since he isn't returning her calls, they're going to talk about it right here. She said she and AJ had a hot, passionate night together. He doesn't remember then, but she found some real incriminating photos on her phone showing the two of them in bed together. Styles has a bottle of alcohol next to him and appears to be nearly passed out. He can't believe it.

Match #5 - Bound For Glory Series - Rob Van Dam (Battle Creek, Mich.) vs. Christopher Daniels (Los Angeles, Calif.)

RVD with an abdominal stretch into a banana split but Daniels gets the ropes. They go outside and Daniels gets the best of it out there and he maintains control back in the ring. Daniels gets a bit greedy and RVD kicks him. They slug it out and RVD goes for a roll up but Daniels kicks out. RVD completely comes up short on a superkick and just does it again. He goes for the Five Star but Daniels moves and RVD rolls through. RVD sets Daniels up for the Rolling Thunder but Daniels moves, covers RVD and puts his feet on the ropes to get the pin.

Winner via pinfall (7 points): Christopher Daniels

Match #6 - Bound For Glory Series - Magnus (Kingsland, England) vs. Bully Ray (New York City)

Bully Ray attacks Magnus on his way to the ring but Magnus quickly turns that around. They get in the ring and the bell rings and Ray takes over. Ray goes for a big splash but Magnus moves and starts to fire up. They trade blows in the centre of the ring and Magnus ducks one of Ray's and hits a back suplex for two. Now Magnus wants and locks in a Texas Cloverleaf. Shades of Dean Malenko! Ray, though, is able to gets the ropes.

Magnus lines Ray up and hits a Michinoku Driver but Ray kicks out. Magnus to the second rope for the nice elbow but Ray moves. He follows that up with a Bully Cutter and that is it.

Winner via pinfall (7 points): Bully Ray

Match #7 - Bobby Roode (Toronto, Ontario) vs. Austin Aries (Minneapolis, Minn.)

This is an Open Fight Night match, as Roode has called Aries out.

Real hot start to this one. Roode gets dropkicked to the floor and Aries comes flying off the apron with a flying forearm. These two are going at it.

We're back and Roode is in control. Aries tries to punch back but Roode shuts that down with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for two. Roode in total control. He drops a knee on Aries and then goes to work with a rear chinlock. The two start going toe-to-toe and trade some punches and chops. Aries wants a roaring elbow and Roode catches it and wants a Crossface but can't get it with Aries locking in the Last Chancery but Roode is able to rake the eyes to break the hold.

Roode with a spear but Aries kicks out at two. To the top and Roode wants a superplex but Aries knees his way out and boxes the ears, sending Roode to the canvas. Roode rises right into a missile dropkick. He follows that with the corner dropkick and wants the Brainbuster but Roode holds it off and locks in the Crossface. Aries is able to roll out of it. Aries hits the roaring elbow and sends him to the outside where he hits the Heat Seaking Missile. As he celebrates that, Aces and Eights hit ringside and start attacking Aries.

Winner via disqualification: Austin Aries

They attack Aries and leave Roode alone. Roode rises and starts nodding in approval at them. They stare at Roode. Roode comes forward and wants to shake their hands but he gets attacked and laid out. Both men are being laid out as the show goes off the air.
