Impact: New champs crowd as drama continues to unfold
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on Impact Wrestling: A big Slammiversary rematch is on tap as Kurt Angle and AJ Styles defend the World Tag Team Championship against Christopher Daniels and Kazarian with another big plot twist at the end. Also on the show, we get qualifying matches for the X Division title match at Destination X and the Gut Check decision on Taeler Hendrix. Should be a good one!

Tonight's show emanates LIVE! from the Impact Zone in Orlando. "The Professor" Mike Tenay and The Tazz are our hosts.

Match #1 - Bound For Glory Series - Mr. Anderson (Green Bay, Wisc.) vs. Rob Van Dam (Battle Creek, Mich.)

Via GM Hulk Hogan, all BFG Series matches going forward will have 15-minute time limits.

RVD with a leg scissors roll up for two. He follows that with a bridging neck crank but Anderson is able to get to the bottom rope for the break. RVD with almost a banana split. Anderson gets out and plasters RVD with a back elbow. RVD hits a Northern Lights suplex for two and follows that with a cartwheel hand-spring moonsault for two. He wants a split-legged moonsault but Anderson gets the knees up for two.

Anderson stalking RVD. He wants the Mic Check but RVD elbows out. Anderson comes back with a neckbreaker for two. Now Anderson wants a sleeper. RVD arm drags through and then counters the senton bomb and a crucifix pinning combination and gets him.

Winner via pinfall (7 points): Rob Van Dam

Austin Aries is here. He talks about the respect he has for the X Division Championship. He says everyone's been asking him about what's going to happen to the X Division. He tells us there will be a tournament at Destination X to crown a new champion. He says there's old X Division faces in the back and new ones as well and they want the same opportunity as he does.

Before he can go any further, he is interrupted by Bobby Roode. He says he couldn't help but hear how over-confident Aries sounds. Roode says he's made the TNA world title the most important thing in the industry and is the most dominant champ in company history. He says the only reason Aries is in the mix with him is because of Hogan. Roode says Option C is nothing more than a failure. He's setting himself and the X Division up for failure because he's not in Roode's league. "So do me a favor, kid, get the hell out of my ring." Aries counters and asks what if he thinks it's his ring. He says if Roode wants him to leave his ring, why doesn't he make him. They square off, but Roode smiles, grabs his title and takes off.

Match #2 - X Division Qualifying Match - Sonjay Dutt (Mumbai, India) vs. Rubix (The Bronx, New York)

You might recognize Rubix as Jigsaw from CHIKARA, Ring of Honor and more.

Dutt with a 'rana but Rubix goes to the floor. He catches Dutt coming back in and sends him out and hits a suicide dive. He sends Dutt into the ring and wants to go to the top. He goes for a missile dropkick but is dropkicked out of the air. Dutt hits a pendulum kick and then follows with a springboard splash for two.

Rubix with two kicks and then a bridging German suplex for two. He wants it again but Dutt elbows out and then plants Rubix with a spinning DDT. He follows that with a moonsault into a double foot stomp that has Taz marking out. Good night now.

Winner via pinfall: Sonjay Dutt

Great effort here by both men. Dutt advances and hopefully Rubix gets another look.

Match #3 - Bound For Glory Series - Bully Ray (New York City) vs. Samoa Joe (Isle of Samoa)

Crowd solidly behind Joe and Ray wants no part of him. Joe with some punches but Ray rakes the eyes and hits a suplex and a head butt.

We're back right as Joe is firing up. Back elbow and kick land in the corner, but Ray responds with a clothesline. Big slap to the chest for Ray. And another. Joe responds with forearms and hits the ropes but each man hits a clothesline. Ray goes to work on the arm. Joe has to take a walk to try to get some feeling back in his arm. He pulls Ray out, but that backfires as Ray smashes the bad arm into the steep steps.

In the ring, Ray goes for a splash but Joe moves and fires up. He hits a series that is highlighted by a back splash for two. But Ray comes right back and hits a uranage for two. Ray to the second rope and wants a back splash of his own but Joe rolls out of the way and Ray makes a very loud thud on the canvas. He takes a walk. Joe goes to follow but Ray cranks him with a big boot on the flora. Joe is out of it.

As Earl Hebner is tied up with Joe, Joseph Park comes down to the ring. He slaps Ray hard right in the kisser. Ray can't believe it. Before he can do anything else, Joe comes up from behind and locks in the Coquina Clutch. Ray taps immediately.

Winner via submission (10 points): Samoa Joe

Park asks for a microphone. He says he knows who Ray is, but does he know who he is? He says he's Joseph Park and Ray is nothing but a jackass bully. Park says he was bullied his whole life and it ends right here, right now, tonight. He says this is no longer about Abyss, this is about you and me. He says he's sick of Ray throwing his weight around and suggests they settle this once and for all. He wants two weeks to get ready and then he'll meet Ray in the ring and fight him again.

Madison Rayne is backstage talking to Garett Bischoff and talking about her crush. She wants to know what he's like. He asks who, so she whispers it in her ear and he just says, "Good luck with that."

Match #4 - X Division Qualifier - Rashad Cameron (Philadelphia, Pa.) vs. Mason Andrews (Big Bear, Calif.)

Andrews hits a corkscrew flip dive over the top rope onto Cameron. Andrews with a jumping knee and then a big crossbody for two. He goes for another, but Cameron moves. Cameron kicks Andrews to the floor and comes over the top with a big rotating dive to the floor. Cameron dropkicks Andrews from the back into the corner and then hits Paydirt and that's it.

Winner via pinfall: Rashad Cameron

Backstage, Hulk Hogan books James Storm against Jeff Hardy in BFG Series action for next week's main event.

It's Gut Check time. Bruce Prichard, Al Snow and Taz are in the ring. Jeremy Borash welcomes Taeler Hendrix to the ring. She says she's here to shine and she's hungry for success. Borash goes to Taz first as the crowd is chanting, "Yes!" Taz gives her the nod. Al Snow is up next. He says he's seen her grow. But then there's a distraction and it's Joey Ryan making a scene in the front row. He's got a sign saying something about 87 percent. Taz knocks his camera out of his hand and gets in his face. Security comes out and hops the rail and escorts him away.

They get back in the ring and Snow says he thinks she has potential but doesn't think she's ready for the Impact Wrestling roster yet. She gets 30 seconds now. She says she has been given a chance and she fought to get here and she wants to fight to stay here. She talks about how she wants it and she's going to fight to prove to them that she can shine.

It comes down to Prichard. Crowd again fires up the "Yes!" chants. He notes that she is inexperienced and doesn't know if she's tough enough, or has that mean streak in her, but unlike Ryan, she has heart, desire and class and they can work with that. His answer is yes. She drops to her knees as she has her contract.

Fantastic. Her promo was great, the crowd loved her and even though Prichard is right in his criticism, you can't let wrestlers go that the people want, especially when they've got intangibles you like.

Match #5 - TNA World Tag Team Championship - Kurt Angle (Pittsburgh, Pa.) & AJ Styles (Gainesville, Ga.) vs. Christopher Daniels (Los Angeles, Calif.) & Kazarian (Anaheim, Calif.)

Kazarian is not in line with Daniels right now. He didn't even want this match.

Angle with a big back drop on Daniels and then a T-Bone suplex that sends Daniels rolling to the floor. Styles hits a big kick on Daniels on the floor and is all over Daniels.

We're back and Daniels is in control on Styles. He wants a springboard moonsault but Styles gets the knees up and Styles makes the tag to Angle. Daniels tags in a witless Kazarian and he gets thrown into the ring by Angle. Belly-to-belly lands for Angle. He follows that with the triple Germans. Straps are down. Daniels comes running in and he gets Germaned twice and the third is a release.

Kazarian counters the Angle Slam with an arm drag and follows with a TKO for two. He wants the Fade to Black but Angle rolls through it and locks in the ankle lock. Kazarian shoves Angle into the corner and Styles tags himself in. Daniels does the same.

They trade some holds and hit cross-bodies at the same time. Angle in and he ends up wiping up referee Brian Hebner. Daniels clotheslines Angle to the floor and then grabs a chair. He's going to plaster Styles with it, but Kazarian grabs it away and Styles hits Kazarian with the Pele. Kazarian drops the chair, flips Daniels off and takes off. Styles loads Daniels up for the Styles Clash but Kazarian slides back in, cranks Styles with the chair. Daniels covers, Kazarian throws the ref back in and Hebner counts to three.

Winners via pinfall and NEW TNA World Tag Team Champions: Christopher Daniels & Kazarian

Daniels grabs the mic and tells Dixie Carter, sitting at ringside with Claire Lynch, to turn that frown upside-down because she can be happy, too. Daniels says Lynch told the truth, but not the whole truth. He says you can tell Lynch is pregnant, but what she didn't tell is that Styles is the father. Daniels those gets in Styles' face and says, "I'm sure it'll be a phenomenal baby!" and starts laughing hilariously. Carter can't believe it and Lynch is crying as the show goes off the air.
