Impact: Roode, RVD get tough challenges ahead of title match
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on Impact Wrestling: With a short time remaining until Sacrifice, TNA World Heavyweight Champion Bobby Roode and top contender Rob Van Dam have the opportunity to pick each other's opponents tonight. Roode tells RVD he gets to face his good friend Jeff Hardy while RVD tells Roode he's facing Mr. Anderson in a no disqualification match.

Tonight's taped show emanates from the Impact Zone in Orlando. "The Professor" Mike Tenay and The Tazz are our hosts.

Ric Flair is in the ring to open the show. He's talking about how he's not happy with how Hulk Hogan and Garett Bischoff ran off Eric Bischoff last week. He calls Hogan out. And here comes the Hulkster, brother. Flair says he's the baddest man on the planet and plans to get control of this place again.

Hogan says he's not here to fight Flair, but he's here to step the game up at Impact Wrestling. He asks Flair to be one of the judges for Gut Check, namely as the lead judge. He wants Flair to be able to lend his expertise to the young guys. Flair says Hogan is setting him up again, but Hogan says he wants Flair to do this for the fans. After some wrangling, Flair agrees to do it.

Match #1 - Gail Kim (Toronto, Ontario) & Madison Rayne (Seattle, Wash.) vs. Brooke Tessmacher (Houston, Texas) & Velvet Sky (The Big Apple)

Kim goes for a move from the top but Velvet hangs on and hits a face plant. This allows her to finally tag Tessmacher in and she comes in on Kim and runs wild. She goes to bring Kim up, but Kim elbows her right in the face and then clotheslines her. She goes for Eat Defeat but Tessmacher blocks it. Rayne tries to get involved, but she gets speared by Velvet. They brawl to the outside. Tessmacher tries to throw a kick, but Kim catches it. Kim taunts her but then Tessmacher hits Kim's own move, Eat Defeat, and pins her.,/p>

Winners via pinfall: Brooke Tessmacher & Velvet Sky

Rob Van Dam's in the ring. He says nothing of importance before Bobby Roode makes his way out. These two will be choosing each other's opponents tonight. Roode makes note of all the names he's beaten and says in a few weeks at Sacrifice, RVD's name will be named to that list. RVD reveals that Roode will face Mr. Anderson tonight. Roode tells RVD he'll be facing Jeff Hardy.

Match #2 - TNA Television Championship - (c) Devon (New York City) vs. Robbie T (Wales)

Robbie jumps Devon at the bell and is all over him. Devon tries to fire up with a shoulder block, but can't get Robbie off his feet. He tries one more time and gets him down. He goes to the top and hits a long distance flying headbutt but Robbie kicks out at two. Robbie E comes into the match now and the referee throws the match out.

Winner via disqualification and STILL TNA Television Champion: Devon

Match #3 - Jeff Hardy (Cameron, NC) vs. Rob Van Dam (Battle Creek, Mich.)

Hardy doing well, hitting Whisper in the Wind for two, but RVD responds with some kicks and then tries for Rolling Thunder, but Hardy gets his knees up. Then Bobby Roode comes down and hits Hardy, not RVD, with the belt behind the referee's back and RVD picks up the win.

Winner via pinfall: Rob Van Dam

Bully Ray, well, bullies Jeremy Borash down to the ring. He, of course, is angry Borash stood up for himself last week with Eric Bischoff. He says he walks all over Borash and guys like him because he can. That's when he's interrupted by Austin Aries. Aries makes fun of Bully Ray for making fun of his size. He says Ray spent most of his career as Blubber Ray, a poster boy for Type II diabetes. This upsets Ray and he slaps the microphone out of his hand. He says Aries isn't going to do anything about it. Ray gets in his face and then spits in it when Aries clocks him. Aries starts pounding away and then chokes Ray with his suit coat. Aries goes to town until security comes down and grabs him. Ray jumps up and kicks Aries.

Match #4 - Kurt Angle (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Christopher Daniels (Los Angeles, Calif.) & Kazarian (Anaheim, Calif.) vs. AJ Styles (Gainesville, Ga.), Samoa Joe (Isle of Samoa) & Magnus (Norfolk, England)

All action here. Joe sends Daniels into orbit over the top and onto the steel steps. Daniels gets back to his feet and is greeted by Joe coming through with a flying forearm. Styles hits the ropes to dive but is cutoff by Angle, who locks in the ankle lock. He has it but Kazarian tags himself in. It all goes south from there and ends with Styles finishing Kazarian with the Styles Clash.

Winners via pinfall: AJ Styles, Samoa Joe & Magnus

Angle is not happy about this outcome.

Daniels says he was going to wait, but Styles has seen the photographs, so next week, either Styles reveals it himself or he does.

Match #5 - No Disqualification Match - Mr. Anderson (Green Bay, Wisc.) vs. Bobby Roode (Toronto, Ontario)

Roode wants to pile drive Anderson on the floor, but Anderson reverses and sling shots Roode into the post and follows that with the plunge on the floor.

We're back and Roode is in control. Make that Roode is in complete control. And of course, as I type that, Anderson shoves Roode head-first into a chair that was propped up in the corner. Now Anderson starts to fire up. He goes for the Mic Check but Roode blocks it with elbows to the head. Roode goes to the top but Anderson cuts him off and puts him on hi shoulders, but Roode slides out and hits the Double R spinebuster for two. Roode goes for the Perfect Plex but Hardy comes running out and kicks Roode. Hardy goes to help Anderson up, but Anderson just gives him the Mic Check. Anderson sees what he's done and eats a chair to the stomach. Roode follows with the Perfect Plex and gets the win.
