WWE NXT: Kidd, McGillicutty go at it again
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling
Tonight on WWE NXT: The rivalry between Tyson Kidd and Michael McGillicutty reaches its apex tonight as the two engage in the rubber match of their series. With each man winning once, they meet once more to settle the score, and one man pulls something new out of his bag of tricks to do so. Should be a good one!
And we are TAPED! from Hampton, Va. Josh Mathews and William Regal are our commentators and Matt Striker is our host. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).
Match #1 - Percy Watson (Miami, Fla.) vs. Johnny Curtis (Westbrook, Maine)
Watson in control early, overmatching Curtis with his athleticism, but Curtis takes over and sends Watson to the outside.
We're back and Curtis remains in control. Curtis hits a leg-drop on Watson's arm from the second rope. Curtis again goes for the move later on, but Watson starts chopping and punching him and throws him off the top turnbuckle. Two dropkicks connect and a flying clothesline for Watson. Watson with a throw and he goes to follow that with the Showtime Splash, but he gets distracted by Maxine leaving with Regal from the ringside area and gets rolled up by Curtis and that's it.
Winner via pinfall: Johnny Curtis
Curt Hawkins and Tyler Reks confront Maxine backstage about their business with Striker. Then Maxine sees Derrick Bateman and Kaitlyn coming and puts fake tears on via the water fountain and pleads for his help. Oh boy…
Titus O'Neil runs into Tamina Snuka backstage. He has a peace offering for her, a coconut tree. She says it's so unlike him, but so sweet. She accepts a kiss on the cheek from him and takes off. He's celebrating in the background. On her way, she runs into Darren Young and he wonders where she got that from. She takes off and O'Neil walks up and Young is mad, knowing he wanted to give that to her for a few weeks. O'Neil says he's just better.
Bateman and Kaitlyn are looking backstage and they find Striker locked up in a closet. He's going crazy. They say they should go find Regal and tell him everything, but Striker, who has Hawkins' cane, says he's going to handle it.
Regal meets up with Hawkins and Reks backstage. Regal says he underestimated them and owes them an apology. Then he insists on knowing where Striker is. They are skittish and say they haven't seen him. Regal says if something happens to Striker, there will be serious consequences. Regal leaves and Reks freaks out. Hawkins says they go find Striker and frame Curtis and Maxine. They go to the closet and Striker is gone. Then Curtis and Maxine come up and make fun of them for losing Striker. Then Curtis sings "Ironic." Best thing on this show in months.
Match #2 - Michael McGillicutty (Champlin, Minn.) vs. Tyson Kidd (Calgary, Alberta)
They brawl to the outside and McGillicutty sends Kidd crashing over the announce table.
McGillicutty in control. He works a painful-looking side headlock. Kidd escapes and hits an arm drag and they follow by hitting a double clothesline. Kidd fires up with some kicks and then a double leg dropkick right to the skull for two. He grabs the legs but McGillicutty shoves him out of the ring. Now Kidd grabs McGillicutty and puts his head under the ring apron and punch away. Kidd goes to the top and hits a rolling neckbreaker for two. McGillicutty, though, gets going and locks in the Sharpshooter on Kidd of all things. Kidd makes the ropes.
McGillicutty grabs the almost lifeless Kidd up for a suplex but Kidd locks in a new hold, looks like an armbar (camera angle wasn't great at all) and McGillicutty taps.
Winner via submission: Tyson Kidd
