WWE NXT: Striker steps down, new leader in place
MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling
Tonight on WWE NXT: After one year of NXT Redemption, change is in the air. Show host Matt Striker relinquishes his power on the show in favor of a former Raw general manager (Mike Adamle sighting?) as the drama between Kaitlyn, Maxine and Derrick Bateman rolls on. Should be a good one!
And we are TAPED! from Seattle, Wash. Josh Mathews and William Regal are our commentators and Matt Striker is our host. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).
Match #1 - Alex Riley (Washington, DC) & Percy Watson (Miami, Fla.) vs. Titus O'Neil (Tampa, Fla.) & Darren Young (Miami, Fla.)
O'Neil and Young almost immediately take over and isolate Riley while working quick, frequent tags. Riley tries to bring in Watson, but O'Neil grabs him at the last second and the isolation continues. Young works a rear choke on him. Riley works his way out and hits the ropes, which allows Watson to tag himself in.
Watson comes off the top with an ax handle and follows that with a throw and the Showtime Splash for two. He dispatches of O'Neil and trash talks him, only to get grabbed by Young for the double knees to the chest. That does it.
Winners via pinfall: Darren Young & Titus O'Neil
O'Neil grabs the mic and tells Watson he'll get the rematch he wanted next week.
Alicia Fox, Kaitlyn and Justin Gabriel are all sitting in the ring in chairs with one chair opposite them. Out comes Derrick Bateman. He says he was coming out to face Heath Slater, but Gabriel says he doesn't have a match tonight. Kaitlyn says this is an intervention. Fox adds it's for 5-foot-5 for evil, Maxine. All three run Maxine down. Bateman goes on the offensive, but they show him a video. The video comes back and it ends with Kaitlyn making out with Bateman.
Here comes Maxine running down to the ring and she attacks Kaitlyn. It's a pier-six brawl. Maxine almost throws a chair at Kaitlyn before Gabriel grabs it and saves her life. They'll meet tonight.
Match #2 - Michael McGillicutty (Minneapolis, Minn.) vs. Tyson Kidd (Calgary, Alberta)
McGillicutty in control but Kidd fires up with a series of kicks for two. Kidd with a nifty roll up for two. He goes to the top but McGillicutty crotches him. McGillicutty goes for a superplex but Kidd pushes him off and hits a moonsault for two. Kidd goes for the Sharpshooter, but McGillicutty hangs on to the ropes and then kicks Kidd right in the face. He follows that up with the McGillicutter and that's it.
Winner via pinfall: Michael McGillicutty
Matt Striker is in the ring. He says it is the one-year anniversary of NXT Redemption. He notes all the changes NXT has gone through in its five seasons, but there's only been one host. He says recently, he messed up, letting the inmates run the asylum, and tonight that's going to end. Before he can spit anything else out, Curt Hawkins and Tyler Reks come out. They run their mouths before Striker tells them to shut up. He asks them to try him. He notes the show needs some veteran leadership and is handing the reigns of the show over to William Regal.
Regal gets up from the announce desk and gets in the ring with a sly smile on his face. He says things are going to change here and he's got something special lined up for Hawkins and Reks next week. The last 52 weeks of NXT are over, and the new NXT begins next week.
Match #3 - Kaitlyn (Houston, Texas) vs. Maxine (Tampa, Fla.)
Maxine in total control, but Kaitlyn catches her out of nowhere in a full nelson slams and rolls it through to pin her. Big win for Kaitlyn!
Winner via pinfall: Kaitlyn
After the match, Maxine shoves Bateman and then Johnny Curtis, both of who were doing commentary. She walks over to the announce desk, grabs a mic and congratulates Regal and says she looks forward to working closely with him.
