Terry Funk pulled from Toronto WrestleReunion
By JASON CLEVETT - SLAM! Wrestling

Terry Funk as NWA World champion in 1976.

One of the biggest names scheduled to be part of WrestleReunion 8 in Toronto will no longer be part of the weekend. The company announced on its website that Terry Funk has been pulled from the event.

"With a heavy heart, I have to announce that Terry Funk, who we have advertised for several months as one of our featured VIP guests and who signed a contract to appear, has been pulled from our event in Toronto. It is of the utmost importance that I am as honest and up front with the fans as possible, while respecting Terry’s privacy. I haven’t personally spoken to Terry at this time (I’ve tried repeatedly), but I trust the person who has very recently had that opportunity, and at this point I have to say that if we continued to advertise him as appearing it would be a lie to all of you," promoter Sal Corrente posted in a release on the site.

Funk was expected to wrestle in addition to signing autographs, doing video promos and taking photos. In 2011 he and Roddy Piper tore the house down as the last two wrestlers in a legends battle royal.

The weekend still has multiple names including Bruno Sammartino, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, JJ Dillon, Tito Santana & Rick Martel, and Road Warrior Animal among others. Those wishing to cancel their ticket due to Funk's cancellation can do so, Corrente said.

"Although wrestling always cautions that 'card is subject to change,' we understand that Terry is not a replaceable talent. Therefore, if any VIP ticket holder would like a full refund, we are going to give all current Toronto VIPs a two week period to decide if you’d like to keep your VIP ticket or take a refund. If we lose any VIP ticket holders, everybody behind those ticket holders will improve their VIP numbers accordingly."

It has not been disclosed what caused Funk to be pulled from the event.

"Whatever challenges Terry at this time, we truly wish him the very best. He has meant a lot to me personally and to my company."
