Kofi's got bad intentions for Jericho

Chris Jericho is a big reason why Kofi Sarkodie-Mensah gave up his mundane 9-5 corporate job.

So now, as Kofi Kingston, he can't wait to face Jericho at a March 3 WWE show at Scotiabank Place.

"Chris Jericho is very entertaining. I used to watch him in WCW and he's a big reason why I got involved in wrestling. He wasn't the biggest guy and I wasn't either. So when I saw him on TV, I knew I could do this. It gave me a sense of mind that I could make it.

"As a fan, I liked him. But I don't care too much for him as a person. The cocky antics you see in the ring are the same as the way he acts backstage."

Kingston is where he wants to be these days -- in the middle of a wrestling ring.

"I always wanted to be a WWE superstar. I realized where I didn't want to be and that was in the corporate world. Clearly, in a 9-to-5 job, I was not being passionate about what I did. I just rolled the dice and gave this wrestling thing a shot. And it's just awesome. I'm definitely living out my dream. If you follow your dreams, they really can come true."

Kinsgton is in the RAW title match at Sunday's Elimination Chamber pay-per-view.

"The Elimination Chamber is definitely an opportunity for me to become WWE champion," he said. "My goal is to hold that championship. I always believe in trying to be the best. The match is different than any other match in a steel contraption, with pods. It's a combination battle royal and elimination match."

While his character was once very Jamaican, Kingston has evolved into something more nonsense. But opponents still have trouble in Kingston's paradise.

"WWE 'characters' have that sense of development," he said. "Look at Stone Cold Steve Austin. He started off Stunning Steve Austin, then he was the Ringmaster. Rocky Maivia developed into The Rock. You always need to have your character going forward."

AROUND THE RING

Former Ring of Honor star Chris Hero debuted as Kassius Ohno in WWE's FCW developmental group ... New Jersey will host Wrestlemania in 2013.
