WWE NXT: Maxine makes the switch
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on WWE NXT: The never-ending season continues with no end in sight, but what does have an end is Maxine's relationship with Derrick Bateman, as she officially switches teams, going from Team Bateman to Team Curtis in a huge shocker. Should be a good one!

And we are TAPED! from Indianapolis, Ind. Josh Mathews and Matt Striker are our commentators and Striker is our host. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).

Striker is in the ring and he alerts us that in three weeks, NXT will be celebrating its 100th episode. He notes the wrestlers who have been on NXT and says he's made some calls and welcomes Justin Gabriel back to NXT. Remember when Matt Hardy was his pro? Remember when Hardy was in WWE?

I digress. Striker goes to interview Gabriel but he gets about three words about before Heath Slater interrupts the party. He's another NXT alum, you see. Slater says Gabriel hasn't done jack since he left NXT. Well, if that's not the pot calling the kettle black I don't know what is. He says he carried Gabriel in their tag team. Gabriel gives it back. I sense a match coming here.

Striker, if nothing else, is predictable and he does not disappoint here, booking Slater and Gabriel to wrestle right now. Maybe Striker can join Johnny Ace as another "Mr. Excitement."

Match #1 - Heath Slater (Pineville, WV) vs. Justin Gabriel (Cape Town, South Africa)

Gabriel in control early on. The best part of the match in the early going is Striker bringing up old NXT rookies, like Jamie from Season 3 ("Who?" Mathews asks) and Eli Cottonwood. Mathews notes they aren't even with the company anymore.

A lot of mat work going on here. A catch-as-catch-can special. That is until Gabriel sends Slater to the outside and hits a big flip dive onto him. I don't think Strangler Lewis ever did that.

Gabriel goes for the 450 but gets crotched by Slater, who takes over. He works a headlock. Gabriel up to a vertical base but Slater maintains his edge with a back suplex. He charges Gabriel in the corner but Gabriel moves. He hits some kicks to the legs and then a heel kick.

Corner crossbody connects followed by a springboard crossbody for two. Gabriel again goes for the 450 but Slater runs up and throws his off the top but only gets a two count. The two battle it out in the centre of the ring and Gabriel gets the best of it. He hits a springboard moonsault for two.

Slater with a spinebuster for two. He loads Gabriel up on the top but that doesn't go well as Gabriel drops down and snaps Slater's neck on the top rope. He follows that up with a springboard 450 splash and gets the pin.

Winner via pinfall: Justin Gabriel

Derrick Bateman and Maxine are backstage. He tells her she is absolutely crazy, but so is he. He says the love they share also is. She says he doesn't listen to her and that's the problem. He says she keeps his eyes on the prize and after he beats Johnny Curtis tonight, he's going to get their relationship back on track. She goes to walk away but he says one more thing and pulls her in for a big kiss. She doesn't back away but slaps him anyway.

Match #2 - Percy Watson (Miami, Fla.) vs. Tyson Kidd (Calgary, Alberta)

The two are evenly matched and going back-and-forth until Watson drills Kidd with a dropkick as he comes off the top. Watson hits the Showtime Splash, but is distracted by Darren Young, who was at commentary and jumped on the apron, and gets caught by a fisherman's neckbreaker from Kidd and that does it.

Winner via pinfall: Tyson Kidd

Young comes in and hits his finisher on Watson.

Backstage, Aksana shows Maxine an email from Bateman to Teddy Long where he says he wants to be on Smackdown but doesn't want Maxine there with him because she drags him down.

Match #3 - Johnny Curtis (Westbrook, Maine) vs. Derrick Bateman (Cleveland, Ohio)

Curtis in control. He hits Bateman with a back elbow and then a turning clothesline for two, but Bateman slips out of a suplex and drives Curtis into the corner. He catches Curtis on the rebound with a roll-up and gets the pin.

Winner via pinfall: Derrick Bateman

Bateman gets down on one knee in the ring and looks at Maxine, who came to ringside to watch. She comes into the ring, approaches him and then walks away. She heads up the ramp when Curtis comes back out from backstage. She walks toward him, flashes a brief smile, slaps him and starts making out with him. She drags him to the back.
