Impact: Sting, Hardy out for revenge
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling
Tonight on Impact Wrestling: After last week's beating, Jeff Hardy is out for some revenge. So is Sting. So it's only natural that the two team up in tonight's main event to face their assailants from last week: Bobby Roode and Bully Ray. And it comes to us in a street fight. Elsewhere, the Wild Card Tag Team Tournament rolls on, highlighted by Eric Young and ODB taking on Anarquia and Shannon Moore.
Tonight's taped show emanates from the Impact Zone in Orlando, Fla. "The Professor" Mike Tenay and The Tazz are our hosts.
Bobby Roode and Bully Ray are out to start the show. Ray is donning a Santa hat. Roode says he hopes everyone is thankful for their gifts they gave everyone last week at the end of Impact. The only thing they forgot was to wrap a bow around Jeff Hardy and Sting.
Ray says he gives and he gives and he gives. He talks about all the charitable things he does (like give extra dollar bills to strippers). Roode gets the stick back and dates Sting to come down and suspend him. He gets Hardy instead.
Hardy tells Roode he won't be suspended because at three weeks, he's going to take his world title at Genesis. Hardy says tonight, Roode and Ray are in a match with Hardy and a partner of his choosing. Ray starts running him down for having no friends, etc., when Sting's music hits. He comes out with his back to everyone and turns around, revealing face paint.
Sting says he'd be proud to be Hardy's partner tonight. Roode and Ray flip out.
Match #1 - Wild Card Tournament - Rob Van Dam (Battle Creek, Mich.) & Christopher Daniels (Los Angles, Calif.) vs. AJ Styles (Gainesville, Ga.) & Kazarian (Anaheim, Calif.)
RVD kicks Styles so, so hard with a thrust kick. He goes to tag Daniels, but at that exact moment, Daniels went down the apron to trash talk fans. So that allows Styles to hit an arm wringer and bring in Kazarian. RVD sends Kazarian flying with a monkey flip. They exchange holds. As RVD tries to setup for Rolling Thunder, Daniels tags himself in. Of course, he immediately gets taken over.
Daniels looks for a tag but RVD just kicks him in the head. This allows Kazarian to hit Fade to Black and that's it.
Winners via pinfall: Kazarian & AJ Styles
Match #2 - Tony Nese (Ridge, NY) vs. Zema Ion (The Philippines)
Nese hits a Lionsault and starts to roll. He goes for a springboard crossbody but Ion gets out of the way. Ion goes to the top but takes too much time taunting and Nese recovers and hits a 'rana from the top. Ion, though, drops Nese across his knee but pulls him up on the cover again. Ion backs away and then comes back toward Nese, who grabs him and rolls him up for the pin.
Winner via pinfall: Tony Nese
Backstage, Madison Rayne reveals that, on her way out, Karen Jarrett made her the VP of the Knockouts.
And here comes Madison. She is wearing a referee dress. She calls Tara and Brooke Tessmacher to come out. She notes how she is now the VP of the Knockouts and she has a responsibility to destroy all the people beneath her, and tonight she's starting with them. She says tonight, she is booking them in a match against each other. And to make sure there's a match, she has appointed herself as the special guest referee.
Match #3 - Brooke Tessmacher (Houston, Texas) vs. Tara (San Bernardino, Calif.)
They roll around and make Madison count fall after fall. She flips her lid. They start to have a match and Madison eggs them on each time they do something to the other. Tara goes for the Widow's Peak but Tessmacher escapes. She hits some clotheslines and then a second rope crossbody for two, as the count was super slow.
Tara and Tessmacher start arguing in the centre of the ring when Madison comes up and yells at them to hit someone. So of course, they each hit her with a back elbow. Madison freaks out.
This match is a no contest?
James Storm makes his way to the ring. He talks about his battles with Kurt Angle. Then we cut to the board and Angle is at Storm's bar in Tennessee. He is dressed ridiculously and makes fun of the girl he's sitting with. Then he talks to the camera and says "Sorry about their damn luck," referring to the patrons in the bar.
Match #4 - Wild Card Tournament - Shannon Moore (Whispering Pines, NC) & Anarquia ("Mexico") vs. Eric Young (Nashville, Tenn.) & ODB (Minneapolis, Minn.)
It's all Young comedy in the early going. But Moore and Anarquia take over briefly before Young makes the hot tag to ODB. Anarquia immediately slams her and Moore takes offense to this and walks off. ODB knocks both Sarita and Rosita off the apron and then she slams Anarquia. Young hits a flying elbow and then locks up with Earl Hebner, distracting him as ODB hits a low blow. Young releases Hebner so he can count the pin.
Winners via pinfall: Eric Young & ODB
We see Angle beating up people in the bar.
Match #5 - Street Fight - Bully Ray (New York City) & Bobby Roode (Toronto, Ontario) vs. Jeff Hardy (Cameron, NC) & Sting (Venice Beach, Calif.)
We get a split screen early on to capture both sets of brawls here. Hardy and Sting end up in the ring and they hit stereo slingshot crossbodies on their opposition.
More split screen action as we return, but this time, it's Ray and Roode in control of the match. Sting makes a comeback on Roode, but Ray cuts him off with a road sign as he goes for the Stinger Splash. Ray suplexes Sting into a trash can for two. They try to double team Sting but he moves and Ray clotheslines Roode instead.
Now it's just chaos with everyone hitting moves on everyone. Ray and Roode gain control and bring a table into the ring. Roode and Ray go to double suplex Hardy onto it, but Sting pulls most of it out of the way and hits Stinger Splashes on both of them. He locks in the Scorpion Death Lock on Ray, but Roode's presence breaks it up. Sting lays him out and he and Hardy grab a new table. They load Roode up on table and Hardy hits a big splash from the top and that's it.
Winners via pinfall: Jeff Hardy & Sting
