WWE NXT: Show's power couple no more?
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on WWE NXT: It's Week 39 and WWE is still looking for its next breakout star. On this edition of NXT, the Derrick Bateman Saga continues as he looks for Maxine amid controversy that she left with Johnny Curtis last week. She finally shows up after Bateman's main event match with Curtis and drops a bomb on him. Should be a good one!

And we are TAPED! from Jacksonville, Fla. Josh Mathews and Matt Striker are our commentators and Striker is our host. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).

The Usos are out to start the show and get the crowd pumped up when they are interrupted by Derrick Bateman. He says he has to talk about last week. He says he hasn't spoken to Maxine in a week since she left with Johnny Curtis last week. The Usos say to not believe what Tamina and JTG said last week because they saw her leave by herself. Bateman likes this and takes off.

Match #1 - Jimmy & Jey Uso (San Francisco, Calif.) vs. Tyler Reks (Laguna, Calif.) & Curt Hawkins (Queens, NY)

The Usos dispatch both Reks and Hawkins to the outside but a double-team helps Reks and Hawkins take control back in the ring and Reks starts to beat on Jimmy. Hawkins in and he mocks the Usos chant. He gets punched in the face for it but retains control immediately. Headlock for Hawkins but Jey escapes and hits a big spinning forearm. Both men tag.

Jimmy in. He runs wild and ducks a big boot from Reks and Reks knocks his partner Hawkins right off the apron. Samoan drop for Jimmy, but Reks drops him into the corner after the butt charge and takes over. Reks loads him up for the Burning Hammer but Jimmy counters into a bulldog. He goes for the cover but Hawkins breaks it up. Jey comes in and tries to superkick Hawkins but he ducks and Jimmy catches it before it hits him. They throw Jey's leg into Hawkins and then Jimmy lights Reks up with a superkick. He tags in Jey who hits the big splash and that's it.

Winners via pinfall: Jimmy & Jey Uso

Bateman is looking for Maxine backstage when he runs into her "mom." She starts hitting on him when Johnny Curtis walks up. He says he's done a lot of dirty things in his time but he'd never leave with another man's fiance. As Bateman walks away, he says he was with his mom all last weekend, though. Bateman has to be pulled away from Curtis. They meet in tonight's main event.

Match #2 - Titus O'Neil (Tampa, Fla.) & Percy Watson (Miami, Fla.) vs. JTG (Brooklyn, NY) & Darren Young (Miami, Fla.)

Young drops Watson on the ring apron and then runs Watson's head into JTG's boot. They control Watson until he hits a dropkick on JTG. Both men down and they each crawl to their corners to make tags. O'Neil is a house of fire. He hits a shoulder block and then twice knocks JTG off the apron before turning his attention back with Young with a big boot. He hits a shoulderbreaker but JTG breaks it up. Watson takes care of JTG. O'Neil looking for his next move when Tamina hops up on the apron. This distracts O'Neil and Young knees him in the back and rolls him up for three.

Winners via pinfall: Darren Young & JTG

O'Neil has a mic after the match. He says he's been on this show 39 weeks and worked as hard as he could each week. He says Young doesn't care about any of them, just himself. He says he's got two kids at home that he loves dearly, so he wants to challenge Young to a match next week.

Match #3 - Derrick Bateman (Cleveland, Ohio) vs. Johnny Curtis (Westbrook, Maine)

One guy tries to start a "Let's Go Bateman" chant as the bell rings. It goes nowhere. I'm shocked.

Curtis on the outside. Bateman gets on the apron and tries to run off with a dropkick but Curtis moves and Bateman crashes and burns. He lands hard on his elbow.

We're back and Curtis is working on Bateman's elbow. He's working for several minutes until Bateman hits an Irish whip and then a backdrop out of the corner. He's working with one arm as he hits some clotheslines and then a neckbreaker for two. Bateman hits a crossbody from the top but Curtis rolls through it for two.

They exchange chops in the centre of the ring but then the bonk heads. Bateman hits a high-impact bulldog out of nowhere and gets the pin.

Winner via pinfall: Derrick Bateman

Here comes Maxine. She says "seriously" and then shoves him. She's angry about his interaction with her mother. She says she's disgusted with him. She pulls of her engagement ring and tells him the engagement is off. Curtis is shown smiling.
