ROH: Generico looks to regain TV title
By MATT MACKINDER - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on Ring Of Honor, Jay Lethal defends the ROH World TV title against former champ El Generico in the main event. The Briscoe Brothers are also in action. Sounds like a sweet Sunday night to me!

I missed last week's show, but for those wondering, it was Mike Mondo over Alex Silva, Mike Bennett over Jamin Olivencia and Davey Richards over Kyle O'Reilly.

Kevin Kelly and Nigel McGuinness are ringside from the Davis Arena in Louisville, Ky., this week and we get right to the ring after comments from the Briscoes and their opponents, Cedric Alexander and Caprice Coleman.

Match #1 Cedric Alexander & Caprice Coleman vs. The Briscoe Brothers (Mark & Jay)

The match wasn't long and I think the Briscoes were disqualified when Jay shoved the ref. Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin then showed up with chairs and chased 'Dem Boys out of the building and into the parking lot.

Match result: No-contest

We see footage of the melee in the parking lot and it doesn't amount to much.

Match #2 Handicap Match - Sean Casey & Raphael Constantine vs. "Unbreakable" Michael Elgin w/ Truth Martini

I think the former MLB first baseman Sean Casey could have fared better. Elgin is starting to remind me of Rhino a little bit. Same build. Same push.

Squash city here as Elgin pins both after a double Alabama Slam. Pretty cool move.

Winner via pinfall: Michael Elgin

ROH executive producer Jim Cornette is backstage and offers Kevin Steen a settlement offer. Next week, Steen and his attorney, Steve Corino and Jimmy Jacobs will meet in the ring to discuss said offer. I smell someone getting a beatdown.

Eddie Edwards is slowly turning heel and is being trained by Dan Severn for his ROH World title match at Final Battle against Richards. Eddie thinks O'Reilly is stirring the pot and turning the American Wolves against one another. He also said he wouldn't have beat Davey the way Davey beat him for the belt at Best In The World in June. We see footage of Severn training fighters and Eddie at his Michigan Sports Camps facility in Coldwater, Mich.

Roderick Strong is at an empty bar with three floozies and announces that he wants a match at Final Battle. Put him against someone like Generico or Jerry Lynn or I don't know, have him put over someone like Adam Cole or Andy Ridge. Just a thought.

Match #3 ROH World TV Champion Jay Lethal vs. El Generico

Bennett and his trainer, "Brutal" Bob Evans show up on the ramp and will take in this match. I don't think Bennett will interfere. Nah. No chance.

Super match! Straight-up wrestling. There is no other way to describe this match. Aerial spots. Mat wrestling. Rest holds. Woo-hoo!

Lethal scores with the elbow from the top, but Bennett distracts the ref and not only does the pinfall go unnoticed, but the time limit expires. Again.

Time-limit draw ... and STILL ROH World TV champion: Jay Lethal

Lethal attacks Bennett and then Generico leaps through the ropes into both guys. Methinks a triple threat is going down at Final Battle.

WEEKLY DISCLAIMER: Great show again tonight! ROH is wrestling. I mean, WRESTLING. They don't need the word "entertainment" in the name of the company to let you know what it's supposed to do for you. It just happens naturally. And yes, I say this every week.

Nigel said it best last week when he said ROH isn't sports entertainment, but rather an entertaining sport. Bless you, Nigel.

'Til next week, folks.
