ROH: Two matches, two strong outings
MATT MACKINDER - SLAM! Wrestling
This week on Ring of Honor, it’s a double main event with Eddie Edwards going against Michael Elgin and the Briscoe Brothers taking on the All Night Express.
Not sure Elgin has reached main event status yet, but Edwards definitely has. We'll have to see of Elgin can bring it.
Kevin Kelly and Nigel McGuinness are in the ring and push the two matches. We then get a video package of the now-heel Briscoes.
Match #1 – No. 1 Contender Match - The All Night Express (Kenny King & Rhett Titus) vs. The Briscoe Brothers (Jay & Mark)
King and Titus appear to be faces now.
A pretty good opener and it goes about 10 minutes. Good counters and some decent spots - the norm for these guys.
With referee Todd Sinclair tied up with Mark and Titus, Jay kicks King low and a small package later makes the Briscoes the No. 1 contenders to the ROH World tag belts held by Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin.
Winners via pinfall: The Briscoe Brothers
A video package on Haas and Benjamin is next. Good stuff here. It's good to see these guys can shine in ROH and not, in my opinion, be held back like they were in WWE.
Kelly is ringside with Jim Cornette, who says that even though the Briscoes won the first match, neither team is the No. 1 contenders.
The hype video for Edwards and Elgin is next with comments from Truth Martini, Cornette and Davey Richards.
Match #2 – "Die Hard" Eddie Edwards vs. "Unbreakable" Michael Elgin w/ Truth Martini
Elgin gets my vote for best mullet in ROH. Trust me, it's a doozy.
This match was better than I expected. Elgin impressed me here and didn't rely on Edwards carrying the match.
Edwards gets the win after the Die Hard - a cross-legged fisherman buster. Solid move. Never seen it before.
Winner via pinfall: Eddie Edwards
Roderick Strong charges into the ring to confront Eddie, but McGuinness evens the odds and leaves his commentary position to side with Edwards and end the show with a staredoen with Elgin, Strong and Martini.
Great show again tonight! ROH is wrestling. I mean, WRESTLING. They don't need the word "entertainment" in the name of the company to let you know what it's supposed to do for you. It just happens naturally. And yes, I say this every week.
'Til next week, folks.
