WWE NXT: Kidd is show's shining star
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on WWE NXT: In the never-ending season of NXT, Tyson Kidd continues to be the highlight. Tonight, in his hometown of Calgary, he puts on a great match with Smackdown's Trent Barreta. Elsewhere, the feud between AJ and Maxine boils over in a 1-on-1 encounter. Should be a good one!

And we are "LIVE!" from Calgary, Alberta. Todd Grisham and William Regal are our commentators and Matt Striker and is our host. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).

Striker is in the ring and is almost immediately interrupted by Darren Young. He says the challenges and Striker make him sick. Striker says he's just doing his job and Young says his job the last two weeks has been beating up Striker. He tells Striker to get out of the ring so he can earn redemption. Striker admits he can't beat Young, so Young wants Striker to say Young is the future of WWE. Striker says Young's the better man. Young wants more. Striker gives it to him and then offers a handshake, only to have Young take it and attack him. This lasts only a short time until Regal makes the save.

Tyson Kidd is backstage and his suitcase is all a mess on the floor. He goes on about everyone and puts up his suit jacket cover and it has the Japanese symbols on it.

Match #1 - Tyson Kidd (Calgary, Alberta) vs. Trent Barreta (Mount Sinai, NY)

The hometown crowd is into everything Kidd does early. A big axhandle drops Kidd and the crowd boos. Barreta takes over. Barreta with a nice double stomp out of the corner for two. Headlock for Barreta. Kidd lands a boot that sends Barreta back. He springboards into the ring but Barreta dropkicks him out of the air and to the mat.

We're back and Barreta has Kidd in a headlock. Running crossbody block for Barreta sends Kidd to the floor. He goes for a baseball slide but Kidd slips it, spins him around the kicks him in the head. Then Kidd grabs Barreta and hits a corkscrew neckbreaker from the apron to the floor.

Kidd with a slingshot into the middle rope and then a leg drop onto the apron that cannot feel good. Kidd on the floor and Barreta gets up and hits a springboard plancha that sends his own head bouncing off the floor. Back in the ring, Barreta props Kidd onto the top turnbuckle and goes for a superplex, but Kidd slips out and crotches Barreta. Now Kidd goes up and hits a hurricanrana, but Barreta rolls through into a sunset flip but Kidd rolls through that and goes for the Sharpshooter. Only Barreta grabs him for a victory roll for two. Both men get up and hit a double clothesline.

They exchange kicks and punches. Both men down now. Barreta goes for a tornado DDT but Kidd rolls through into the single-leg crab. Barreta scrapes and claws and gets to the bottom rope. Kidd gets up and the Japanese symbols appear on the screen again and they go away. Kidd turns right around into the tornado DDT and that'll do it. The crowd is not happy about this.

Winner via pinfall: Trent Barreta

Great match.

Match #2 - AJ (Union City, NJ) vs. Maxine (Tampa, Fla.)

Headlock for Maxine. AJ off the ropes and Maxine hits a boot to the midsection and a knee lift for two. Maxine is all over AJ here. Completely dominating the match. The crowd tries to get AJ going with chants of "AJ," but she can't respond. Maxine goes for a suplex but AJ with a small package for two. Maxine back to work with a chinlock. Big boot connects for Maxine. AJ gets up, though, and fires up. Spinning back kick connects and then a springboard crossbody for two.

As AJ gets going, Bateman starts to stalk Hornswaggle and then pie faces him. This distracts AJ enough to allow Maxine to roll her up for the fall.

Winner via pinfall: Maxine

Titus O'Neil runs down to the ring and chases Bateman and Maxine away, but, as Grisham said, he's a day late and a dollar short.

If you count the main event of Raw, that's three straight WWE TV matches that have ended with distraction finishes. Real "creative."
