Fundraiser for Cornwall-area fire victims
By MELISSA DI COSTANZO - Cornwall Standard Freeholder

CORNWALL -- As a father of six, Joe Dunlap says hearing about the fire in Alexandria hit home.

The local pro-wrestling promoter had to do something immediately.

So, he has teamed up with Isabelle Menard, manager of the Alexandria branch of Dairy Queen, and told her he would be more than happy to help out with the Saturday, Aug. 27, event she is planning.

Dunlap will be hosting a pro-wrestling fundraiser outside the Dairy Queen and will donate a percentage of the total gate taken in. Funds from a 50/50 draw will also be donated.

According to Dunlap, wrestlers will be coming from Fergus, Cornwall, Whitby, Montreal and Woodstock.

"I put it all over Facebook," he says. "They were all over it."

In addition to wrestling, there will also be face-painting, a barbecue and a bake sale. There will be a candlelight vigil and balloon ceremony at 9 p.m., also on Aug. 27.

"We're trying to do a bunch of stuff, and make it as successful as possible," explains CGPW promoter Dunlap. "We're no strangers to fundraising in the area. We've raised quite a bit of money over the years for different families."

The goal, he says, is to "raise as much money as we can."

The pro-wrestling event starts at 2 p.m. and runs until 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the gate.
