WWE NXT: Striker back in ring following 4 year absence
MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling
Tonight on WWE NXT: For 18 months, Matt Striker has been hosting NXT and, for the most part, has avoided confrontation. But after four years off from in-ring action, Striker finds himself back in the ring tonight as he is forced to team with Titus O'Neil to face Darren Young and Derrick Bateman. Should be a good one!
And we are "LIVE!" from Lexington, Ky. Todd Grisham and William Regal are our commentators and Matt Striker and is our host. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).
Striker is in the ring and welcomes out Titus O'Neil. Striker asks him how he feels that it seems like Darren Young and Derrick Bateman have teamed up against him. He says he thinks it's cute. He says he's dominated the competition from start to finish and they know the only way they can win is to take him out. He says he's only worried about Titus O'Neil. Then Young and Bateman come out and they both have micas.
Bateman says you can't take away the fact that last week, he beat O'Neil. Well, could've fooled me. O'Neil says there's no way in possible hell Bateman can beat him 1-on-1. Bateman says it's time for O'Neil to go. O'Neil suggests they have a tag team match here tonight. Striker asks the crowd if they want it and then Young gets upset and says Striker is helping O'Neil cater to the audience. Young says the only way they're doing it is if they get to choose O'Neil's partner. They choose the most trite person on the show and that is Matt Striker.
Striker objects, saying he hasn't wrestled in four years, but O'Neil says he and Striker are going to take the wood to their behinds. Cue the dog bark.
Match #1 - JTG (Brooklyn, NY) vs. Vladimir Kozlov (Moscow, Russia)
Kozlov comes out to JTG's music only with his own TitanTron. He's also dressed like JTG. Regal is incensed on commentary about how he worked with Kozlov so long and how all that's gone. Grisham can't believe they're getting this match and NXT and it wasn't saved for WrestleMania.
JTG gets off to an angry start but Kozlov quickly grabs him and hits a fallaway slam and JTG rolls to the outside. Kozlov goes and gets him and whips him into the side of the ring. Back in the ring, Kozlov continues to be in control.
We're back right as JTG drills Kozlov with a missile dropkick. Nice backbreaker by the man from Brooklyn for two. Kozlov works his way out for a back hold and goes to work on JTG with some punches. JTG responds with some of his own and hits a facebuster out of the corner. Now Kozlov gets going with some tackles and then some headbutts that have JTG reeling. A power slam and Kozlov is feeling it. He grabs JTG and hits the Iron Curtain and that's it.
Winner via pinfall: Vladimir Kozlov
Tyson Kidd is out. He says last week, Yoshi Tatsu might've won the match but he was the one who got the leg up. He says everyone should be thanking him because there will be no more stupid Yoshi Tatsu music, toys and Tatsu himself. He says he comes from a long line of competitors who made it through hard work and sacrifice, not from playing with action figures. He says there's no room for Yoshi Tatsus in his WWE, there's only room for Tyson Kidd.
Match #2 - Derrick Bateman (Cleveland, Ohio) & Darren Young (Miami, Fla.) vs. Titus O'Neil (Tampa, Fla.) & Matt Striker (Bayview, NY)
O'Neil works over Bateman for a bit and brings in Striker, and he gets a big pop. Striker hits a nice dropkick and brings O'Neil back in. O'Neil hangs onto the ropes on an Irish whip attempt and backdrops Bateman over when he charges.
We're back and Striker is working a headlock on Young. Striker walks right into a back elbow and then Young drops him into the second turnbuckle. Bateman in and he works a chinlock. Striker tries to fire up but Bateman brings him down. Bateman hits O'Neil off the apron and they use a double team on Striker as O'Neil ties up the referee.
Young with a chinlock and then a knee to Striker's temple. Striker completely overshoots a sunset flip attempt. That was good. Bateman back in. Snap suplex connects. Now he charges Striker in the corner for double knees but Striker moves. He slowly crawls over and makes the tag to O'Neil, who comes in on fire on Young.
Big scoop slam lands for two for Young. Young comes over with a rollup and puts his feet on the ropes but Striker pushes them off. Young confronts Striker but he jumps off the apron and points to his head. Young turns around and right into the Clash of the Titus and that's it.
Winners via pinfall: Titus O'Neil and Matt Striker
