RAW: Triple H settles WWE Title controversy
By DALE PLUMMER -- SLAM! Wrestling

Well isnít this just a pickle. There are two men claiming the WWE Championship and each one is in possession of the belt. Now common sense would say that CM Punk is the rightful champion, since he beat John Cena and Cena won his title in a rematch with Rey Mysterio. Then again, common sense isnít always abundant in the WWE Universe. Can new Chief Operating Officer Triple H get all this sorted out? Letís find out as Monday Night RAW emanates from Indianapolis, Indiana.

In case youíve been living under a rock, RAW starts off the show by recapping the past few weeks.

Unfortunately Michael Cole didnít quit, so we are stuck with a three man booth, as he joins Jim Ross and Jerry ďThe KingĒ Lawler.

WWE Champion CM Punk strides to the ring and announces the champ is here. The champ is going to tell us why he came back. Punk says he loves the place he works, but hates the people in charge, so he spoke his mind and it let to a little change. He says he is here to make wrestling fun again. Punk says he can only make the industry better by signing with the WWE. Punk says he came back at the right time, because we are back to the status quo, John Cena as the WWE champion. Punk calls the WWE title the most important belt in the world, and he is the one and only champ.

Triple H puts an end to Punkís speech, walking to the ring. Hunter wants to explain why he re-signed Punk, it was good for business. Triple H is giving the people what they want, despite his personal feelings. It boils down too, that Hunter thinks Punk is smug and overrated.

Punk asks Hunter if itís like looking in a mirror and then rips Vince McMahon for letting guys like Mick Foley, Chris Jericho and Brock Lesnar walk out the door. Punk tells Hunter that he couldnít afford to let him go. Hunter wants Punk to tell the truth of why he re-signed. Hunter tells Punk he needs the WWE as a platform. Hunter calls Punk and Cena the WWE champions, and he will fix that situation later tonight.

Hunter starts to leave, when Punk stops him, telling him he wonít tow the company line and do things his way. Punk calls out HHH for hogging the spotlight and being married to Steph. Punk calls him a bully that likes to throw his weight around. The WWE champ warns Hunter that he will push back. Hunter says he took this job for the fans, and he will follow and respect the rules and Punk should follow suit. The champ wants to know the repercussions if he doesnít and then wonders if Hunter will have to ask his wife first.

Match #1 Ė 20 Diva Battle Royal Ė Number One Contender

Michael Cole says this match could be a train wreck. (Pot meet kettle.) Beth Phoenix picks up both Bellas and drops them over the top rope at the same time to eliminate them.

Winner: Beth Phoenix

After the match, WWE Diva champ Kelly Kelly congratulates her. Beth immediately turns on her, knocking her out the ring. Phoenix tosses her into the barricade and tells her that her days are numbered.

Meanwhile back in the locker room, The Miz wants to know who R-Truth is talking to. Truth tells Miz that they are pretty much the same. Miz says they arenít, but Truth makes him think that there may be a conspiracy at work.

Josh Matthews grabs a word with the other WWE Champion, John Cena, and wants to know what he thinks of Punk's comments. Cena says he is more interested in what Triple Hís decision will be about the WWE Title.

Match #2 Ė R-Truth and The Miz vs. John Morrison and Rey Mysterio

Morrison kicks Miz off the apron, only to walk into an inverted DDT from Truth. He covers Morrison to get the win.

Winner submission: R-Truth and The Miz

After the match, Miz hits Morrison with the Skull Crushing Finale. He picks him up so Truth can smack him in the face with a water bottle.

Hunter talks to Josh Matthews and says Punk referencing Steph is no big deal, and he needs new material. As for Cena, he wants John to keep this strictly business.

WHAT YOU THINK
Did CM Punk return to WWE too soon?
Absolutely - 76%
Not sure... 11%
No - 13%
Dolph Ziggler and Vikki Guerrero enter the ring and Vikki gets on the microphone. She introduces Ziggler, who says no one will ever be as good as him. Alex Riley takes issue with the US Champ and wants to know why he is always hiding behind Vikki. Riley calls Ziggler a fraud, so Dolph gets ready for a fight. Or he rolls out of the ring, instead.

Match #3 Ė David Otunga and Michael McGillicutty vs. Santino Marella and Zack Ryder

If anyone was wondering The Nexus is officially over.

With Santino in the ring, the crowd chants for Zack Ryder. Santino makes the tag and Ryder goes to work on McGillicutty. Otunga makes the save, but is chased from the ring by the Cobra. McGillicutty counters the Rough Ryder and is double teamed by the champs. After a forearm from the top rope, Otunga covers to the get the pin.

Winner via pinfall: David Otunga and Michael McGillicutty

Josh Matthews ask Punk what he thinks Triple Hís decision will be. The champ says he was just testing Hunter, and he passed with flying colors.

Match #4 Ė Alberto Del Rio vs. Evan Bourne

Ricardo Rodriguez does the honors of announcing Del Rio.

Bourne runs into a boot from Del Rio, and is then dropkicked in the back. Del Rio follows with an arm bar slam and then locks in a hold on Bourneís left arm. Del Rio delivers a series of head butts, and sets Bourne up for a vertical suplex. Evan fights his way out and heads to the top. Del Rio cuts him down in mid-air with a kick, and then locks in the cross arm bar. Bourne taps.

Winner via submission: Alberto Del Rio

After the bell, Del Rio applies the hold again. Kofi Kingston runs down to make the save.

Triple H makes his way to the ring to announce what will happen with the WWE title. Hunter is interrupted by John Laurinaitis, the executive VP of Talent Relations, a job he took over from Jim Ross. Hunter wants to know what he wants. Laurinaitis suggests Hunter strip the title from John Cena, because that is what Vince would do.

On cue, Cena hits the ring and calls Laurinaitis the ďYes ManĒ Punk was talking about. Cena thinks he wants the title stripped because Cena knocked him out. Cena doesnít want his title stripped because someone doesnít like him.

Laurinaitis tells Cena he is out of line. And Cena threatens to punch him in the face. Hunter tells him to go ahead. Laurinaitis clears out of the ring.

Triple H tells Cena that his title is legit, because Punk only re-signed as Cena was beating Rey Mysterio. Cue CM Punk.

The WWE champ hits the ring, wanting to know if Hunter is going to strip him of the title and everything will go back to the status quo. Hunter tells Cena and Punk to stop whining. They are going to settle this at SummerSlam, winner will be the undisputed champion. (WHAT!?! That actually makes sense!)

Hunter walks off, leaving the two champions in the ring. Punk holds up his title, and Cena follows suit. Punk poses on the corner, and then Cena follows. OH SNAP! Itís a pose off. And thatís how the show ends.

Dale Plummer has been writing for SLAM! Wrestling since 2003. Dale got in a pose off once, it didnít end well.
