RAW: Mysterio wins then loses WWE Championship
By DALE PLUMMER -- SLAM! Wrestling
The last few weeks have been historic in WWE. First the new WWE champion, CM Punk, leaves the company, Vince McMahon threatens to fire one of the top stars, Triple H relieves Vince of his duties and takes over WWE, and then CM Punk crashes a WWE panel at Comic Con. And tonight a new WWE Champion will be crowned as the Triple H era begins. Will CM Punk show up to challenge the legitimacy of the new champ? We shall see. Match #1 – The Miz vs. Rey Mysterio – WWE Championship Match Mysterio delivers a hurricarana but Miz catches a second attempt and drops him on the turnbuckle. Miz follows with a running clothesline, and makes an early pin. Rey kicks out, but Miz stomps away at him. Rey shoots off the ropes and Miz catches him with a knee to the gut. We go to commercial. After the commercial, Miz hits a neck breaker and follows with series of punches and a cover. Rey kicks out. Miz goes for a back suplex, but Mysterio lands on his feet and shoves Miz through the turnbuckle and into the ring post. Rey follows with a seated senton and a flying cross body. Miz kicks out of the pin, and plants Rey with a DDT. Miz connects with a big kick, but cannot get the pin. A frustrated Miz waits too long to attack, and Rey kicks him in the face. Rey floats over a powerbomb and drops Miz into the ropes. Miz ducks the 619 and delivers a sit down powerbomb. Rey kicks out again. Miz goes for the Skull Crushing Finale, but Rey blocks it by grabbing the ropes. Mysterio pulls himself out of the tree of woe, and Miz slams his knee into the turnbuckle. Rey knocks Miz into the ropes and connects on the 619. Rey hits the splash from the top rope and makes the cover. Miz stays down for the three count, and Rey Mysterio is your new WWE champion. Winner via pinfall ... and new WWE Champion: Rey Mysterio As Rey celebrates, Miz decks him from behind and walks off. Rey is down in the ring, so Alberto Del Rio figures this is a perfect time to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase. Del Rio heads to the announce table, but Rey cuts him off with a flying cross body over the top rope. Del Rio grabs his briefcase and runs off. Backstage, Rey is showered with praise and champagne. He gets a handshake for John Cena, and tells Josh Matthews that all the sacrifices were worth it. Match #2 – Dolph Ziggler w/ Vicki Guerrero vs. Evan Bourne Ziggler rolls away from Air Bourne hits the Zig Zag and locks in the sleeper. Bourne passes out and Ziggler picks up the win. Winner submission: Dolph Ziggler The WWE is a PG product, but we have product placement from a beer company during a Diva segment. That’s a tad hypocritical. Match #3 – Kellu Kelly and Eve vs. Melina and Maryse Kelly hits Melina with the K2 as Eve and Maryse fight on the outside. Kelly covers to get the win. Winner via pinfall: Kelly Kelly and Eve R-Truth is talking to Triple H in the back. Triple H walks to the ring to deliver his State of the WWE address and he is sporting his new title of Chief Operating Officer. Hunter has one thing to say first, he acknowledges the great job Vince McMahon did in building the WWE into what it is today and thanks him for it. Hunter announces that they are going to have a second WWE championship match, and this match needs to take place tonight. Rey Mysterio will defend against John Cena, who never got his rematch.
R-Truth walks out and says Triple H has been part of the conspiracy since day one, and now he is in charge. Although, Truth likes what he sees, but he wants to know what Triple H is going to do for him. Hunter mocks Truth, but Truth seems to respect that and walks off. Hunter tells Truth he re-signed someone else, someone who wanted a piece of Truth. John Morrison is back! The two fight on the stage, and Morrison chases him down the ramp. Truth is thrown into the ring and Morrison delivers Starship Pain. Match #4 - Michael Cole vs. Zack Ryder Cole said he didn’t have his gear, so Triple H is letting him borrow his old stuff. Cole also borrows Hunter’s entrance, but it’s nowhere near the same. Finally, Ryder gets his due! After months of promoting himself online, Ryder has made the big show. Zack hits the Rough Ryder and Cole is down for the count. Ryder covers and gets the pin. Winner via pinfall: Zack Ryder Match #5 - Alberto Del Rio vs. Kofi Kingston Del Rio picks up the win with the cross arm breaker. Winner via submission: Alberto Del Rio Josh Matthews tries to get Miz’s feelings after losing the WWE title. Miz blames John Cena for everything that has happened since losing the belt to CM Punk. Miz has some jealousy issues. Match #6 – Rey Mysterio vs. John Cena – WWE Championship Match
Winner via pinfall ... and new WWE Champion: John Cena After the match, CM Punk walks out on stage and heads to the ring. (I didn’t think we would see him tonight.) It’s looks like we have a problem here, two WWE champions. Both men face off in the ring raising their belts as the show goes off the air. Dale Plummer has been writing for SLAM!
