WWE NXT: Bateman's back, makes impact
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling
Tonight on WWE NXT: When it looked like we were down to two, ol' WWE threw everyone a curveball and inserted Derrick Bateman back into this season of NXT. Now he battles with Darren Young and Titus O'Neil as the final three rookies on the show. What impact would Bateman have his first night in? Should be a good one!
And we are TAPED! from Tucson, Ariz. Todd Grisham and William Regal are our commentators and Matt Striker and Maryse are our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).
Striker and Maryse are in the ring and welcome out the three remaining rookies. It's time for a rookie challenge for three redemption points. It's a Talk the Talk Challenge.
The topic is "winning NXT." Young complains about Bateman being put in the contest and says he's going to do it without a pro — all by himself.
O'Neil says he doesn't care because he's dominated this competition in every aspect and the person who is going
Bateman gets a cheap pop and really just rambles incoherently about social media and hashtags and the like.
Per usual, the crowd chooses the winner and O'Neil wins again in a landslide.
Match #1 - Yoshi Tatsu (Tokyo, Japan) vs. Tyson Kidd (Calgary, Alberta)
Tatsu on a roll early and a spinning back kick sends Kidd to the outside. They battle in the ringside area and Tatsu lights Kidd up with chops against the barricade and then sends him back into the ring. They head onto the apron and Tatsu is looking for some sort of suplex but Kidd breaks away, kicks Tatsu a few steps back and then comes charging with a big kick that sends Tatsu back-first into the post and to the floor.
Kidd in control as the crowd chants "Yoshi!" Tatsu works out and hits a knee that floors Kidd. Both men down now. A kick lands for two for Tatsu. He goes to the top but Kidd cuts him off. Tatsu drops him, though and comes flying in with the spinning heel kick for two. Tatsu calls for the high kick but Kidd drops down and takes out his knees with a dropkick. Then he hits him with a violent fisherman's style suplex and picks up the win.
Winner via pinfall: Tyson Kidd
Match #2 - Darren Young (Miami, Fla.) & Titus O'Neil (Tampa, Fla.) vs. Daniel Bryan (Aberdeen, Wash.) & Derrick Bateman (Cleveland, Ohio)
Young in control on Bateman until Bateman finally tags Bryan. Clothesline connects for Bryan and then a corner dropkick for two. Bryan goes to the top and hits a flying headbutt, again for two. Young flings Bryan into the corner and Bateman tags himself in. Bryan comes flying in and takes out O'Neil in the corner and Bateman hits Young with headlock drive and that's it.
Winners via pinfall: Daniel Bryan & Derrick Bateman
