WWE NXT: 'Cheap loser' Cannon sent packing
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling
Tonight on WWE NXT: It's getting down to the nitty gritty as we have four rookies left and one of them is being sent packing. Titus O'Neil has led the pack the entire season, but will it be him, Conor O'Brian, Lucky Cannon or Darren Young going home tonight?Should be a good one!
And we are "LIVE!" from Providence, RI. Todd Grisham and William Regal are our commentators and Matt Striker and Maryse are our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).
Striker and Maryse welcome out the four remaining NXT rookies. It's time for the Talk the Talk Challenge, worth three redemption points. They have to give a speech on who they think should be eliminated and why.
Lucky Cannon says it's obvious Titus O'Neil has been riding the coattails of his pro since the beginning and says O'Neil will make zero dollars for the company.
O'Neil says Cannon's been stealing old robes out of his grandma's closet. He notes Cannon has won zero challenges and has only been running behind Maryse. He says the only sweet thing tonight will be Cannon's elimination.
Conor O'Brian says Darren Young should be eliminated. He says Young main evented SummerSlam has he blew it. He says if it was Conor O'Brian, he never would've looked back.
Young says he belongs here and none of the others don't. He asks Striker and Maryse to give him the NXT crown. He says O'Brian has made the biggest mistake of his career calling him out. He sucker punches O'Brian and runs off.
Now it's time for the live audience right here in Providence to choose the winner. After the crowd clearly got the run-off Young confused with O'Neil, they like O'Neil in the tiebreaker vote.
Match #1 - Darren Young (Miami, Fla.) vs. Yoshi Tatsu (Tokyo, Japan)
Back-and-forth match early. Tatsu works an armbar and then lights him up with chops in the corner but Young knees him in the gut and turns it around. They battle on the apron and Young kicks Tatsu in the gut and gives him a neckbreaker on the apron as JTG walks to the ring.
Young in control. He's working an chinlock with a knee in the back. Young just grinding Tatsu down but Tatsu fires up with a kick to the side of the head. Now a series of kicks from Tatsu and a Shining Wizard for two. Now Tatsu goes to the top but Chavo Guerrero distracts him and Young comes over and slams him off the top and gets the pin.
Winner via pinfall: Darren Young
After the match, JTG comes running over from commentary and beats Tatsu down. Tatsu tries to make his own comeback but Young grabs him and it's a 3-on-1 beatdown until Vladimir Kozlov and Conor O'Brian make the save and run the heels off.
Match #2 - Lucky Cannon (New Port Richey, Fla.) vs. Titus O'Neil (Tampa, Fla.)
Cannon all over O'Neil. He works a chinlock with a knee high in the back, really torquing the back. O'Neil gets going, though, and hits a fallaway slam and Cannon gets his hand on the bottom rope on the fall attempt.
Cannon snaps O'Neil's back over the top rope and goes for his finish, but O'Neil slides out pushes Cannon off the ropes and catches him on the rebound with the Clash of the Titus and that's it.
Winner via pinfall: Titus O'Neil
It's time for our elimination. The man going home is Lucky Cannon. That leaves us with Conor O'Brian, Darren Young and Titus O'Neil.
The crowd starts chanting the goodbye song at him. Cannon says he's too good for NXT and he should be on Raw or Smackdown. Then O'Neil gets in the ring and leads the crowd in the singing. Maryse says this is her show and she thinks this decision is not fair. She says she really wants to tell Cannon that she appreciates all the gifts he got her, but she really needs to put it out there. She teases that she's going to say she loves him, but she says she talked to her purse guy and the one's he got her weren't worth $5. She slaps him.
