WWE NXT: Finally, an elimination
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on WWE NXT: The first elimination of Season 5 is upon us. On a season built on "Redemption," one rookie is going to find out the hard way it's not going to come easy. Elsewhere, Vladimir Kozlov and Conor O'Brian engage is what will probably be the best segment on WWE TV this week. That is not a typo. Should be a good one!

And we are "LIVE!" from Corpus Christi, Texas. Todd Grisham and William Regal are our commentators and Matt Striker and Maryse are our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).

Darren Young is out with a key around his neck. Young says Titus O'Neil has been running around winning everything but he has the key to his weakness. He has Hornswaggle lock up, apparently.

Match #1 - Darren Young vs. Titus O'Neil

They cannot possibly be serious with this match again. This is getting comical at this point.

O'Neil backs Young into the corner and screams "where is he?!" Big power slam for O'Neil. O'Neil is all over him. He goes for the Sky High when Chavo Guerrero is on the screen trying to get Hornswaggle out of a big case. O'Neil grabs Young's key from around the post and runs to the back.

Winner via countout: Darren Young

Young finds the box and lets Hornswaggle out. But as he does, Chavo Guerrero, who had been playing nice, attacks him from behind. Then Guerrero grabs Hornswaggle and talks about making him pay. He drags him to the ring and Young throws him down. Young trash talks him and holds him down for a Frog Splash from Guerrero. Finally Young reemerges and runs Young and Guerrero off.

Match #2 - Yoshi Tatsu vs. Byron Saxton

This is a rare match where a WWE pro faces his own rookie.

Saxton gets some offense in early but ends up falling prey in relatively short order to a spinning heel kick from the top rope.

WInner via pinfall: Yoshi Tatsu

Striker is in the ring and he welcomes Maryse out. Maryse welcomes out Vladimir Kozlov and Conor O'Brian. Then Striker welcomes out JTG and Jacob Novak. Maryse says Novak and O'Brian will be competing against each other here tonight.

Novak starts rapping. Oh boy is this awful. And Novak said "wrestle," too. Regal calls this "absolutely double rotten." I'd say triple. Novak is making me look like Jay-Z.

Kozlov and O'Brian start dancing to Kozlov's theme music. This is awesome. Then they put on a sambo exhibition. Now they start breaking boards. This is probably the best thing on WWE TV all week. Crowd goes nuts after O'Brian breaks a board on his forehead.. "I've seen the wonder of all wonders," Regal says. This is tremendous.

The judges, the live audience right there in Corpus Christi overwhelmingly like O'Brian and Kozlov.

JTG is not happy and slaps Kozlov. They head to the outside and challenge them to a fight.

Match #3 - Vladimir Kozlov (Moscow, Russia) vs. JTG (Brooklyn, NY)

JTG knocks Kozlov off the apron and to the floor. He works him over on the outside for a bit before bringing him back into the ring. JTG with mounted punches and then he chokes Kozlov on the second rope.

JTG with the Mug Shot for two and now the crowd starts to clap for Kozlov. He drives JTG into the corner but comes back in and eats a knee. JTG slams him into the turnbuckle but Kozlov no sells it and goes to work on offense. Headbutts for Kozlov. Kozlov puts JTG on his shoulders but he slips out and hits a neckbreaker. JTG to the second rope. He comes down but eats a headbutt. Kozlov lifts him up and plants him and that's it.

Winner via pinfall: Vladimir Kozlov

Tatsu is backstage hitting on Maryse. He asks Maryse if she saw his match. She says no and goes on about how Lucky Cannon bought her $5,000 worth of purses the last two weeks. Tatsu says she likes things more than people and says it's time to break up. Maryse yells that he can't break up with her because they were never an item. Cannon comes up and says Maryse needs a shopping spree.

It's time for the first elimination of NXT Season 5. The person going home is Jacob Novak. Novak, of course, was eliminated first in NXT Season 4. It might be time to hang it up.

Novak is devastated. Striker asks him his thoughts and he says this is twice the people have shut him out. He says maybe he won't get his redemption on NXT, but he will get his when he's in WWE.
