Raw: The Miz makes his case
By DALE PLUMMER -- SLAM! Wrestling

Remember when wrestling pay-per-views were something special? Now the WWE trots them out every three weeks. Monday Night RAW stops in San Antonio, Texas for the final RAW before Over the Limit. And don't even get me started on the names of these things.

WWE Champion John Cena kicks off the show, and he actually gets a good pop. (Unless the WWE has perfected a technology that cancels out booing.) Before Cena can say anything he is interrupted by Alex Riley, who was drafted to Smackdown if I recall. Riley rolls a Miz highlight reel, and then introduces his boss. Riley describes how everyone has underestimated The Miz from the start of his career and The Miz will never say I Quit.

Cena responds with his typical juvenile jokes. The champ says he made this match because he can see fear in The Miz's eyes. The RAW GM emails fires off an email, allowing The Miz to pick the type of match and the opponent for Cena's match, tonight. The Miz hasn't made a decision yet, and walks off.

Match #1 -- Kofi Kingston vs. CM Punk

The New Nexus stands atop the ramp, and Punk orders them to stay there. Punk clubs Kofi over the back, and then elbows him in the chest. Kofi catches Punk on the top rope with a kick, and follows with high cross body off the turnbuckle. Punk kicks out. Kofi hits the Boom Drop and dials up Trouble in Paradise. Punk ducks it, and counters with the GTS. Kofi counters into a roll up, but Punk kicks out. Kofi looks for Trouble, but crashes into the turnbuckle. Punk finishes him off with the GTS to get the pin.

Winner via pinfall: CM Punk

Punk rejoins Nexus on the stage, saying this was leadership by example, and he will be doing things his way. Punk won't stop until they are the most dominant force the WWE has ever seen.

Match #2 -- Kelly Kelly vs. Brie Bella w/ Nikki

Every week the question is, how long until Kharma runs in? Well, it's been over two minutes thus far, allowing Kelly to actually get a pin.

Winner pinfall: Kelly Kelly

After the bell, the twins hit the ring and pound on Kelly. Kharma's music hits and she makes her way to the ring. Kelly is down and out in the corner and Kharma sets her sights on her. Brie Bella attacks from behind with no effect. Kharma catches Nikki coming off the top turnbuckle. Brie runs off, sacrificing her sister to the Impact Buster. Kharma picks up Kelly in the corner, and just flicks her in the face and laughing before walking off.

The Miz is trying to recruit The Big Show.

Rey Mysterio is here to speak the truth. Rey isn't too pleased that R-Truth jumped him last week, so he is going to call him out and handle his business. Rey waits as we go to break.

After the commercial, Rey is still waiting for R-Truth. Eventually Alberto Del Rio makes a grand entrance. Del Rio says Mysterio is the reason why he isn't facing Cena for the title, and Rey doesn't deserve to be on RAW. Del Rio says he is a true Mexican, unlike Rey and the rest of the people in San Antonio. Mysterio is content to take on Del Rio.

Match #3 -- Rey Mysterio vs. Alberto Del Rio

Del Rio sets Rey up on the top turnbuckle and pulls him down with an arm breaker across his legs. We go to commercial.

After the break, Rey connects with a bulldog, but then runs into a clothesline. Del Rio forces Rey into the corner and then goes to work on his arm. Del Rio counters a head scissors by kicking Rey in the head. Rey ducks a kick and Del Rio goes flying through the ropes and crashes to the floor. R-Truth finally shows and he is in one of the suites. He wants someone to call the cops because Rey stole his title shot. Del Rio can't take advantage of the distraction as Rey sets up the 619. Del Rio is saved by his ring announcers and is disqualified. After the bell, Del Rio pounds on Rey, but the ref stops him from applying the cross arm breaker.

Winner via disqualification: Rey Mysterio

After Del Rio leaves, R-Truth finally decides to get him some of Rey. He beats Mysterio down and calls for the microphone. Truth can't believe Rey tried to challenge him.

R-Truth is talking to himself as he walks through the back to his car. Scott Stanford gets a word with him. Truth says he hasn't been taken seriously, and pretty much goes nuts.

Now Miz is talking to CM Punk and Mason Ryan.

And now we come to the Michael Cole portion of the evening. Cole is in the ring with Jack Swagger and Jerry Lawler to officially sign the contract. Cole wants Lawler to restate his terms for the match. Lawler says he will induct Michael Cole into the WWE Hall of Fame and give him his HoF ring. Cole is happy and signs, and so does Lawler. Cole does have something to disclose, this match will be a Kiss my Foot match. Cole shows off his infected foot for Lawler, but I think he should be getting that checked out instead. Lawler points out that Swagger was a World Champion, but now he is a sidekick. Cole says no one remembers Swagger being the champ, and that being his sidekick is the best thing to happen to him. Swagger isn't too happy about that and abandons Cole. Swagger tells him good luck. Cole tries to weasel his way out of the match, now, but Lawler tells him it's too late.

The Miz tries to recruit Kane.

Match #4 -- The Big Show and Kane vs. David Otunga and Michael McGillicutty

Punk and Mason Ryan will face Kane and Show on Sunday for the titles, so this match doesn't mean all that much. Otunga makes a blind tag and takes down Show with a drop kick to the knee. Show easily powers out of pin. Otunga walks into the grasp of Show, who drops him with a back suplex. Kane gets the tag, and so does McGillicutty. Mason Ryan tries to get involved, but Show takes him out of the outside. With the ref distracted, Punk nails Kane in the back of the head, allowing McGillicutty to get the pin.

Winner via pinfall: Michael McGillicutty and David Otunga

Big Show says this loss won't affect them on Sunday in their title match. Kane says they will annihilate Nexus on Sunday.

The Miz has decided that tonight's main event will be a No Hold Barred match and John Cena will be facing, Jack Swagger, who attacks him from behind.

Match #5 -- John Cena vs. Jack Swagger -- No Holds Barred Match

Swagger drags Cena to the ring and beats on him. Swagger connects with a leg drop, and then pounds Cena in the corner. Swagger hits a suplex and then splashes him from out of the corner. We go to commercial.

After the break, Cena breaks out of a wrist lock, but runs right into a big boot. The fight spills to the floor, and Swagger whips Cena into an exposed security barrier. Swagger grabs a chair, slamming it over Cena's back. Swagger lays the chair on Cena and hits the splash. Cena kicks out at two. Swagger lodges the chair in between the middle and top rope, but Cena fights back. Swagger catches him and drops Cena to the mat. Swagger applies the ankle lock, but is able to roll through. Cena sends Swagger into the chair, and both men go down. Cena gets to his feet and hits the sidewalk slam. The champ follows with the five knuckle shuffle, Attitude Adjustment, STF combo. Swagger taps to the STF.

Winner via submission: John Cena

The Miz gives Cena a round of applause, calling the win impressive. Miz tells him to savor this win, because this Sunday he will be filled with emptiness and disappointment. Miz shows Cena all the ways he can hurt him. Miz says he knows a million ways to beat him and he has found a way that Cena has never seen. Miz guarantees that he will be the new WWE Champion. Miz goes after Cena with a steel pipe, but the champ turns the tables and sends The Miz and Riley running back up the ramp. Cena goes off on The Miz, who he ways will quit on Sunday.
