Hogan sweet on Brantford

Sarah deRuiter poses with her Hulk Hogan cake. Brantford Expositor photo

BRANTFORD - Hulk Hogan thought he'd seen everything throughout his wrestling career but Sarah deRuiter may have taken the cake.

Literally.

deRuiter, originally from Delhi and now living in Brantford was patiently waiting to present one of her childhood heroes her newest masterpiece.

Her Hulk Hogan cake took three days to make and was made with Rice Krispies, fondant and cake mix.

"He's always been one of my favourites," deRuiter said. "As soon as I heard that he was coming, I told (Championship Wrestling International president) Nick (Wyman) that I was going to make a cake and he said he'd do his best to get Hulk over to see it."

The ultimate Hulkimania cake is a 45cm x 45cm (18x18 inch) bust of the legendary grappler. deRuiter was one of several vendors on hand in the Civic Centre Auditorium during CWI's Battle in the Bush II. While most were on hand to cash in on the expected capacity crowd, deRuiter wanted nothing more than to present her hero with the hulking dessert.

"Its's been different than other events," she said. "Last time I sold quite a bit of cupcakes but this isn't really about making money today. I just want to meet him.

"Its really cool," she said. "It's cool to have an icon like Hulk Hogan here."

And when it came to the design of the cake, there was only one way to do it.

"When you think of Hulk, you think long blond hair and wearing the yellow and red," she said. "There's no other way. I wanted to make him edible."

And when Hogan saw the creation as he walked in for the media conference, he couldn't believe what he saw.

"Whoa brother, that's incredible," Hogan said as he looked at the 45cm likeness of himself. "That's amazing."

About two and a half hours later, deRuiter finally got her chance to present the cake to him.

"Amazing, just amazing," she said. "I was almost speechless. This is such an awesome experience."
