Impact: Sting defends against Hardy
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on TNA Impact: It's a big night coming off Lockdown as not one, not two, but three titles are on the line. Both tag team titles are defended as is the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, as Hulk Hogan books Sting to defend against Matt Hardy. Also on the show, AJ Styles is back and he wants Bully Ray.

Like usual, tonight's taped show emanates from the Impact Zone in Orlando, Fla. "The Professor" Mike Tenay and The Tazz are our hosts.

The show opens with AJ Styles coming into the ring, which is surrounded by the steel cage, from the ceiling. Styles says he came to Lockdown for one reason: To take out Bully Ray. He says the only thing he did wrong is that Ray didn't have to go to the hospital. Styles challenges Ray to come down and face him like a man.

Ray's music hits and he comes onto the stage. Ray asks him if he is serious. He says he could come into the ring right now and beat Styles so bad he'll never wrestle again. He says if he comes down to the ring again, he'll beat him up, power bomb him on the concrete and then he'll make sure to go to Styles' house and take care of his wife and kids.

Styles is raving in the ring. Ray comes down to the ring but stops before he gets to the cage door. He says that's exactly what Styles wants. Ray says he's going to take care of Styles on his own time. He heads back up the ramp but he's cut off by Christopher Daniels, who hits Ray and throws him in the cage.

Styles sending Ray into the sides of the cage and then he hits the Pele. Styles turns his attention to the weapons in the cage. He cranks Ray with a garbage can and he falls face-first to the mat.

Now Gunner runs down and does battle with Daniels. They brawl to the back. In the ring, Styles has set up a table and he sets Ray up on it. AJ goes to the top rope but of course, looks around and climbs all the way to the top of the cage. Ray, though, gets off the table and runs out the door before Styles can fly. Very good segment.

We got to Tenay and Taz but as they're talking, Rob Terry and Murphy come to the ring. Terry says tonight, he and Murphy have something to prove to Hulk Hogan and they're going to get payback on Beer Money for what they did to Ric Flair by taking the tag team titles.

Beer Money's music hits and Robert Roode asks the fans if they want them to face Terry and Murphy in the steel cage. They do. It's on.

We're back and the match is underway with Terry and Murphy in control of Roode. Roode tries to fire up with punches with Terry no sells them, throws him into the cage and hits a big clothesline. Murphy in and he throws Roode into the corner but Roode comes exploding out with a clothesline. Both men down and they each make a tag.

James Storm in on Terry. Storm on fire. Murphy gets the Codebreaker and Terry gets a DDT for two. Terry throws Storm into the corner and charges, but he is cut off by Roode who hits a Double R Spinebuster. Murphy takes a double-team suplex. They line up Terry and hit the DWI and that's it.

Hulk Hogan is out. He immediately calls out Rob Van Dam. Hogan says RVD made the mistake of his life not joining Immortal and he's going to pay for it, brother.

RVD says Hogan turned his back on everybody for the ratings and now everybody wishes Hogan would just get out of the business. He says he might not have accomplished what Hogan did, but he did it with respect. He says things change, but RVD won't.

Hogan says RVD has always been a big fish in a small pond or a little fish in a big pond. He says without his help, RVD will always be nothing but a mid-card player.

This brings out the champ. It's the Stinger. Sting questions everything Hogan called RVD and says RVD is a main eventer because RVD will be facing him at Sacrifice. Sting says when he signed with The Network, he was given a clause in his contract that said if he became champ, he'd be able to choose his opponent.

Hogan says RVD has a big problem tonight. And that's in the form of Abyss and they meet tonight. Hogan also books Sting to face Matt Hardy tonight.

Madison and Tara are not getting along whatsoever.

Jeff and Karen Jarrett are out to crown Karen as the Queen of the Mountain. I'm surprised it's taken this long. Jarrett is wearing just a phat white tux. Jarrett asks everyone to stand and officially announces Karen as the Queen of the Mountain. Karen could not possibly be happier. She's waving to her subjects when something that may or may not be feces falls from the ceiling right onto Karen. Then Kurt Angle comes out and stalks Jarrett. He catches up and gives him an Angle Slam right onto the chair.

Angle says if Karen thinks she's in a world of s--- now, just wait. He says he'd never lay a hand on the mother of his children, but he knows someone who will his mistress. Angle says she's all about pain, not pleasure, and she cannot wait to meet Karen.

Match #3 - Abyss (Parts Unknown) vs. Rob Van Dam (Battle Creek, Mich.)

RVD gets off to a fast start. It's going great until Hogan makes an advance at ringside with the pipe and RVD turns right around into a big boot and Abyss takes over. RVD, though, hits a big elbow and both men are down. RVD up and he hits Rolling Thunder. Abyss staggers to his feet and RVD goes to the top and hits the single-leg thrust kick. RVD gets ready for the Five-Star Frog Splash but Hogan swings the pipe and RVD. RVD goes to the outside and stalks Hogan but referee Jackson James argues with Hogan. Hogan, though, slides the pipe to Abyss, who hits RVD with it when he gets back into the ring. He follows up with the Black Hole Slam and that's it.

Winner via pinfall: Abyss

It's not over yet. Abyss holds RVD for Hogan to hit with the pipe when Crimson's music hits and he comes down and makes the save, spearing Abyss.

Matt Morgan is out. He wants a shot to win the TNA world title. He says he's sick of waiting for a shot and if he doesn't get it, he's going to take it. Then Scott Steiner's music hits. This is just a classic Steiner promo. I can't even recap this because it makes positively no sense and it's awesome. Here we go: Steiner says the line for title shots starts behind him. He says Morgan is beneath him, just like his girlfriend was last night. Morgan challenges Steiner to a match and offers his hand. Steiner kicks him and gives him a flatliner and follows that with the Steiner Recliner.

Match #4 - TNA World Heavyweight Championship - (c) Sting (Venice Beach, Calif.) vs. Matt Hardy (Cameron, NC)

Sting is making his way to the ring when Immortal surrounds him. But it doesn't take long for Fortune to come out and go at it with Immortal. They brawl to the back but Gunner hits Sting in the leg with the pipe in full plain view of the referee. Hardy throws Sting in the ring and the bell immediately rings.

This is all Hardy but he misses a moonsault and Sting goes to lock in the Scorpion Death Lock but can't hold it once he turns Hardy over because of the bad knee. Hardy locks in a half-crab but Sting is able to roll over and kick Hardy away.

We're back and Hardy is back to work on the injured knee. Hardy calls for the Twist of Hate but Sting pushes him into the corner. Hardy with an elbow and quickly goes to the second rope but Sting pulls him off. Sting starting to get going. He lands several clotheslines but misses the Stinger Splash. Hardy comes at him, but Sting lifts him and drops him into the turnbuckle. He grabs him on the rebound and hits the Scorpion Death Drop and gets the pin.

Winner via pinfall and STILL TNA World Heavyweight Champion: Sting

After the match, Mr. Anderson comes down and delivers the Mic Check to both Sting and Hardy.

Anderson gets his mic and says he's not going anywhere.
