Impact: Sting teams with RVD to face Hardy, Anderson
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling
Tonight on TNA Impact: On this edition of Impact, we get two matches where tag team partners hate each other, a completely confusing three-way street fight between Matt Hardy, Ric Flair and AJ Styles and a completely forgettable appearance from former Jersey Shore star Angelina. All in all, a typical edition of the show.
And we are TAPED! from Fayetteville, N.C. "The Professor" Mike Tenay and The Tazz are our hosts.
Your new TNA World Heavyweight Champion Sting is out to start the show. He thanks the people and he thanks Jeff Hardy, the man he beat for the title last week. He says he hopes Hardy stops drinking the Kool-Aid and gives back to the fans what they gave him.
Then he's interrupted by Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff. Hogan says Sting saw everything coming from 100,000 miles away but nobody listened to him and then the momentum fell in Hogan's direction. He says Sting took his ball and went home. Hogan says he's a day late and a dollar short. Sting says he didn't quit on the people, he quit on Hogan, Bischoff and Ric Flair. But as he sat at home, a fire burned inside of him. Now he's got the title.
Then Mr. Anderson's music hits and he makes his way to the ring. He's still looking for his rematch. Yawn. Then the parade of interruptions continues when Hardy's music starts up. He immediately tells Fayetteville to kiss his ass. Then he wants his rematch. The parade continues when Rob Van Dam makes his way to the ring. Guess what? He wants a title match, too.
Bischoff says tonight there will be a tag team match with Anderson and Hardy teaming up to face RVD and Sting.
Match #1 - Samoa Joe (Isle of Samoa) vs. The Pope (Harlem, NY)
Joe gets going with the back splash. Then a scoop slam for two. Pope begs off and Joe slaps him. They go off the ropes and Pope hits a clothesline. He goes over and exposes a turnbuckle. They do an Irish whip reversal and Joe hits an exploder suplex. As Brian Hebner puts the padding back on at a painfully slow pace, Pope grabs his chain and decks Joe with it. Good night now.
Winner via pinfall: The Pope
Match #2 - TNA Knockouts Championship - (c ) Madison Rayne (Seattle, Wash.) vs. Roxxi (Boston, Mass.)
Rayne jumps on Roxxi as she slides under the ropes. Roxxi quickly fires up and goes for a clothesline but Rayne sidesteps her and she ends up in the ropes. Rayne pulls her down by her hair to the mat. Roxxi, though, rebounds with a spinebuster but Rayne counters with a jawbreaker and hits the Rayne Drop and that's it.
Winner via pinfall and STILL TNA Knockouts Champion: Madison Rayne
Rayne beats on Roxxi after the bout until Mickie James makes the save.
Match #3 - Sarita (Mexico City, Mexico), Cookie (Seaside Heights, NJ) & Angelina vs. Angelina Love (Toronto, Ontario), Velvet Sky & Winter
For the purposes of this match with two Angelina's, all references to Angelina Love shall be "Love." Jersey Shore Angelina shall retain the rights to the name Angelina.
Angelina and Velvet brawl and it immediately breaks down into a six way. Earl Hebner goes to the outside to contain things there as Angelina and Velvet brawl in the ring. Then Robbie E comes out and grabs Velvet from behind. Angelina is going to take a shot when Cookie comes in and says she's got it. Then Winter comes and says she's got it but instead attacks Cookie and Angelina. Then Robbie plays with her hair and gets his wrist bitten for his troubles. She pushes him out. Then she turns into Angelina and holds her attention long enough for Velvet to roll her up. With all the shenanigans over, Hebner suddenly is able to slide in at the complete other side of the ring and makes the count from 20 feet away.
Winners via pinfall: Angelina Love, Velvet Sky & Winter
Ric Flair and Matt Hardy are out. Flair calls out AJ Styles. They go back-and-forth when Hardy cuts Styles off mid-sentence and talks about the negative influence in this business. He's talking to Styles like he's been in the business for about 22 seconds. Then Styles attacks.
Match #4 - 3-Way Street Fight - Matt Hardy (Cameron, NC) vs. Ric Flair (Charlotte, NC) vs. AJ Styles (Gainesville, Ga.)
I have no idea what the rules are for this.
Flair stays on the outside but comes in and gets the worst of it from Styles, who locks in the Figure Four Leg Lock. He's saved by Hardy, who hits a guillotine leg drop. Hardy sends Styles to the floor to Flair and again, it doesn't go well, as he's sent into the guard rail and comes up bleeding.Hardy makes the save for him and, back in the ring, brings a ladder into the equation. He drives it into AJ's chest. Hardy goes for the Twist of Hate but Styles stops that and shoves him into the propped up ladder.
After Styles takes out Flair, Hardy comes back in and hits a Side Effect for two. Flair grabs a chair but Styles kicks him. Hardy gets the Pele. He goes for the Styles Clash on a chair but Flair hits a low blow and Hardy hits a Twist of Hate on the chair and allows Flair to make the cover.
Winner via pinfall: Ric Flair
Match #5 - Generation Me vs. Ink Inc.
Gen Me in control. Max Buck with a sleeper on Shannon Moore. He fires out but is cut off. Max gets cocky and almost gets finished with a small package. Moore with a sunset flip for two and he finally brings in Neal. Huge back drop. Springboard crossbody for two. He dispatches of Jeremy Buck but runs into a kick from Max. Max goes to send Jeremy into orbit but he's speared out of the air by Neal. They follow that up with the Mooregasm and that's it.
Winners via pinfall: Ink Inc.
Backstage, Mr. Anderson lays out Sting.
Match #6 - Mr. Anderson (Green Bay, Wisc.) & Jeff Hardy (Cameron, NC) vs. Rob Van Dam (Battle Creek, Mich.) & Sting (Venice Beach, Calif.)
After the attack, Sting is nowhere to be found when his music hits.
RVD doing surprisingly well on his own. He hits Rolling Thunder on Hardy and Hardy goes to tag Anderson but Anderson drops off the apron. Hardy then takes RVD down and chops Anderson into the match as a tag. He just stands on the apron and RVD runs into him and bounces right in the Twist of Fate. He goes for the cover and Earl Hebner counts it, despite him acknowledge the chop as a tag just seconds earlier. How this company hasn't gone out of business yet with just awful stuff like this I'll never know. Anyway, Anderson breaks up the count and hits the Mic Check on Hardy when Stings music hits.
The lights go out and he's in the ring staring down Anderson. He hits him with the Scorpion Death Drop and RVD follows it with the Five-Star Frog Splash and that's it.
Winners via pinfall: Rob Van Dam & Sting
