WWE NXT: Bryan has best match again
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on WWE NXT: Make it two straight shows for Daniel Bryan having the best match on the card. After battling The Miz on Raw, Bryan goes all the way down the ladder to accept the challenge of his NXT rookie Derrick Bateman as the two meet in tonight's main event. Should be a good one!

And we are "LIVE!" from San Diego, Calif., Todd Grisham and Josh Mathews are our commentators and Matt Striker is our host. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).

Striker is in the ring with the three remaining rookies and it's time for the "Smash and Grab Challenge." Basically, a pinata is hanging above each of the rookies and they have to bust it and grab all the "NXT Dollars" and the rookie to get the most to his pro wins. This should be good.

Johnny Curtis is up first and one minute is on the clock. He is blindfolded. This is a huge fail. He can't even find the pinata, takes the blindfold off and wastes about 20 seconds looking at it, puts it back on and still can't find the pinata in the air and then finally knocks it down with his final swing. He gets zero.

Brodus Clay is up next. Hopefully he doesn't fail as horribly as Curtis. And he doesn't. He cranks the pinata down in one blow. Ricardo Rodriguez is great coaching him here. What a great man. Maryse yells "Speak English you idiot" to Rodriguez. The irony is so rich there and Dolph Ziggler recognizes it. Clay finishes with $4,800 NXT Dollars. HA!

Bateman hits it a few times and some NXT Dollars come out but then he just rips it down and is disqualified. Therefore, Clay is your winner and earns two immunity points.

Match #1 - R-Truth vs. Brodus Clay

Truth in control until he tries to monkey flip Clay out of the corner and goes for a ride. T-Bone suplex connects for Clay. He locks in a nerve hold but Truth fires up and hits a chinbuster. Dropkick to the knees for Truth. He goes to the second rope but Clay moves and hits a big splash and that's it.

Winner via pinfall: Brodus Clay

It is time for our second challenge. This is worth three immunity points and we are playing "Save Yourself Trivia." This is like Jeopardy mixed with Double Dare. They are sitting under buckets and can get slimed apparently.

Clay points out that a question under "80s" involved an answer that was "1999." That was great. At some point here, the stream cut out (thanks, WWE.com!) and I come back and see replays of both Bateman and Curtis being slimed, so I'm going to say Clay won.

Match #2 - Daniel Bryan vs. Derrick Bateman

As the two circle each other to start the match, Ziggler, on the mic in the background says, "This isn't ROH, you don't shake hands." I laughed. Some chain wrestling in the early going. Bryan works on the arm and Bateman stands and spins Bryan out of the ring. Then he hits Bryan with his own move, a suicide dive.

We're back and Bryan is in control. A clothesline and a kneedrop connect for Bryan. Then he lands some kicks to the back. The two start slapping it out in the centre of the ring. Bryan goes to the top but misses a flying headbutt. Bateman turns Bryan inside-out with a clothesline. Bryan off the ropes and tries a sunset flip but Bateman sits down for two. Bryan turns a roll up attempt into a triangle choke but Bateman picks him up and slams him a la Rampage Jackson. Bryan looks done but kicks out at two. Bateman counters Bryan and tries to lock in the LeBelle Lock but Bryan counters it, rolling over and locking in one of his own. Bateman taps.

Winner via submission: Daniel Bryan

The two shake hands and embrace following the match.
