RAW: Jerry Lawler on the road to Wrestlemania
By DALE PLUMMER -- SLAM! Wrestling

Who will Alberto Del Rio challenge at Wrestlemania will be the question of the night on Monday Night RAW. Less than 24 hours after dumping Santino Marella over the top rope to win the Royal Rumble, Del Rio will announce who he will face at Wrestlemania for the title.

The Rumble winner kicks off the show from Providence, Rhode Island with a full mariachi band to celebrate his win. Del Rio did say it was his destiny to win the Royal Rumble, but we didn’t listen. Del Rio wants us to listen up, but first WWE Champion, The Miz, interrupts. Michael Cole nearly jumps out of his suit for the champ. Jerry Lawler tells him to sit down and shut up.

The Miz congratulates Del Rio, telling him winning the Rumble was almost as impressive as winning Money in the Bank, cashing it in, and winning the WWE Title. The champ has some inside information for Del Rio, apparently Edge was mocking Del Rio after the Rumble, and he wants to embarrass him at Wrestlemania. Alex Riley seconds everything his boss says.

Del Rio is too smart to fall for this ploy, and wants to know if he is lying. Miz says Edge doesn’t respect Del Rio, so let’s hear from the World Heavyweight champ himself.

Edge makes his way to the party, and says Miz is right. He doesn’t like or respect him, but he would make fun of him to his face. Edge tells Del Rio he will beat him at Wrestlemania.

Del Rio says it his is destiny to be the greatest of the great and, after looking at the Miz, he turns to Edge and tells him at Wrestlemania he will be the new World Heavyweight champ. Edge decks him, as Miz ducks out of the ring. Edge looks toward Miz, allowing Del Rio to lay him out with a guitar. Del Rio locks in the cross arm breaker. He breaks the hold and backs up the ramp, basking in his short-term victory.

After the commercial break, the RAW GM breaks up the small talk between Cole and King with an email. Tonight will be the first ever RAW Rumble match; seven superstars will face each other for a chance to face The Miz at Elimination Chamber. The remaining six will face each other in the said Chamber. The superstars are: John Morrison, CM Punk, Randy Orton, R-Truth, John Cena, Sheamus, and Jerry “The King” Lawler. (Yea, I can’t believe it either, R-Truth?!?)

Match #1 – Husky Harris and Michael McGillicutty (challengers) vs. Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov (champions) – WWE Tag Team Title Match

(Please let these guys drop the belts.)

McGillicutty tosses Santino out of the ring. Tamina runs down to check on her man. She stays at ringside. Kozlov gets the hot tag, connecting on a big boot to Harris, and then head butting him repeatedly. Santino makes a blind tag, and gets the cobra ready. Santino strikes and covers to get the win.

Winner via pinfall ... and still WWE Tag Team champions: Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov

Randy Orton runs down after the bell, delivering a RKO to Harris. This probably has something to do with CM Punk costing Orton the WWE Title last night. Orton gets that look in his eye, and measures up Harris. CM Punk and Nexus walk out on stage, and he warns Orton not to do it. Punk can’t seem to get through to the Viper, even though he warns of serious repercussions. Orton punts Husky anyway. Nexus runs down, and Orton hightails it out of the ring and through the crowd.

Ted DiBiase calls out Jerry Lawler. He is upset that Lawler is in the RAW Rumble and he isn’t. He wants Lawler to step aside for the future and give Ted his spot. Michael Cole interjects to handle the situation. He calls King a Hall of Famer, and a scene stealer. King’s ego is too big to give his spot away. Lawler has heard enough, and he isn’t giving up his spot because he has never been on the Road to Wrestlemania, but it starts tonight. Lawler says he is going to win the Rumble, and Ted punches him. Lawler gives chase, but DiBiase uses Maryse as a shield, and Lawler pulls his punch. Maryse can’t believe he would do that and slaps him. Lawler then catches DiBiase on the chin with a right hand.

Match #2 – Daniel Bryan w/ Gail Kim vs. Tyson Kidd

The Bellas join the announce table, so this match is an excuse for the Bellas to explain why they were with Bryan. Then they take the time to rip his relationship with Gail Kim. Bryan applies the LeBell lock and Kidd taps.

Winner via submission: Daniel Bryan

After the match, the Bellas enter the ring, and Nikki slaps Bryan. Kim knocks her down, and we have a catfight. Bryan and the refs finally break them apart.

Match #3 – Edge w/Alex Riley vs. The Miz – Champion vs. Champion – There Must Be a Winner

Edge unloads on Miz with forearms and follows with a swinging neck breaker. Edge chokes Miz on the ropes and whips him across the ring. Alex Riley pulls Miz from the ring. The WWE champ pulls Edge to the floor, and slams him into the ring steps.

The action returns to the ring, and Miz gets a near fall. Riley gets in a cheap shot, and Miz goes back to focusing on the shoulder. Miz shoots off the ropes, but runs right into a spinning heel kick. Miz locks in an arm submission, but Edge gets to the ropes. Miz and Edge take each other out with big boots. The ref starts the ten count, but both men gets to their feet. Edge hits a one man flapjack. Edge nearly gets a pin with a sunset flip. Edge hits a DDT. Miz dodges the DDT and Edge eats the ring post. John Cena interrupts the match from the press box; the distraction gives Edge time to hit the spear and pick up the win.

Winner via pinfall: Edge

After the bell, Cole goes to check on The Miz.

Stone Cold Steve Austin is coming back to WWE! Well, to host Tough Enough at least.

Vicki Guerrero gets the crowd fired up, by telling them she has a surprise for Edge. He will have to defend his belt in a way that has never been done before. I guess we will have to tune in on Friday to find out how.

Match #4 – Eve and Natalya vs. Michelle McCool and Layla

Michelle boots Eve in the face, allowing Layla to hit a move off the turnbuckle. She covers to get the win.

Winner via pinfall: Michelle McCool and Layla

Match #5 – Mark Henry and The Great Khali w/ Runjin Singh vs. Jimmy and Jey Uso

Before the match starts, the GM chimes in with an email. He says the Usos don’t have a chance, so these teams will compete in a dance off. (To quote the Miz, “REALLY!?!” Where’s the remote? I’m fast forwarding.)

After first I thought it was a movie trailer, but it’s a vignette that teases 2-21-11. Which would be the day after Elimination Chamber.

Match #6 – The RAW Rumble

The same rules from the Royal Rumble apply here. John Morrison and Sheamus start things off, and we immediately go to commercial.

After the break, the match starts with Morrison and Sheamus going at it. Sheamus tries to force Morrison over the ropes, but can’t quite get him. John Morrison is cursed with a back breaker from Sheamus, as John Cena enters the match. Sheamus is waiting for him, but gets a bulldog instead. Morrison counters an Attitude Adjustment by landing on his feet. Morrison kicks Cena, and turns his attention to Sheamus.

CM Punk is the next in. He delivers a bulldog to Cena, and follows with a spinning heel kick. Punk and Morrison fight on the ropes, but both stay in the ring. R-Truth runs to the ring, and clotheslines Cena. He tosses Morrison over the ropes, but Morrison is able to pull Truth over as well. Both hold on, as Morrison skins the cat. Truth tries to skin the cat, but instead just butchers it. Truth does stay in the ring though.

Jerry Lawler is the next man in. Sheamus tries to force him over the ropes, as the final man, Randy Orton, hits the ring. CM Punk slips out of the ring to hide. Orton finds him though, pulling Punk out from under the ring. Orton unloads on Sheamus to get to Punk. Orton clothesline Punk out of the ring for the first elimination, only to be eliminated himself by R-Truth. We go to commercial.

After the break, Sheamus drops Cena in the middle of the ring with a back breaker. Cena fights back with his arsenal, and hits the five knuckle shuffle on Sheamus. He drives Morrison and Truth into the corner, and picks them both up. He knocks out R-Truth, but Morrison holds on. Cena and Morrison fight on the apron. Sheamus tries to eliminate both men, but they send him over the ropes onto the apron. Morrison slips off the apron, but catches himself on the bottom rope with his toes. Cena locks in the STF on Sheamus, but Morrison breaks in up by hitting Starship Pain on both men. King dumps Morrison over the top tope, but Morrison catches himself with both hands, keeping his feet in the ring. Sheamus tries to eliminate Morrison again, and the bicycle kick finally gets the job done.

Lawler goes after Cena, and gets him on the apron. Sheamus takes over, trying to knock him to the floor. Lawler tries to stop Sheamus, but is pushed into Cena, who hits the floor. Sheamus looks for the bicycle kick, but Lawler low bridges him. Sheamus hits the floor and Lawler wins the RAW Rumble.

Winner: Jerry “The King” Lawler

After the match, John Cena raises Lawler’s hand, as Michael Cole is beside himself.
